CHAPTER 027

ALPHA ALAN'S POV

There is nothing in there.

That sentence hit me like a javelin, piercing through my heart. Chills ran through me causing my skin to raise.

I chuckled in disbelief, my eyes darting towards Aurora who just laid on the bed with her eyes closed.

“Sorry, Dr Belinda, I've known you for quite a number of years now and I can wholeheartedly vouch for your competence and expertise. But, right now I do not understand what is going on here?” My gaze shifted back to Aurora. “Ba..Babe!” I stuttered.

“Maybe you need more gel or possibly the machine is broken or something. Try some other one. I'm certain this isn't the only ultrasound machine in your facility,” my hands trembled involuntarily.

“Okay! For the sake of clarity, I'd repeat the scan with the other machine,” she pointed towards another scanner. I nodded. “Come on baby,” I helped Aurora down to her feet, guiding her to the next examination table opposite the room.

The same process was repeated again and the result wasn't any different from the first one. It was then it dawned on me that I have been deceived all these months.

“Uhmm… Mr and Mrs. Walker, I think you both need to have this discussion amongst yourselves. Meanwhile, I'd send the both of you the result of this scan. Also I'd be writing you both some fertility tests you could run. From there, we can have a session to properly discuss your fertility profile,” she said, scribbling some notes on the file she had.

I turned to Aurora, my lips trembled. I couldn't find the right words to put out my question. She sat on the bed, cupping her face in her hand, sobbing. She didn't try to object to the findings. It was then my face turned red with rage.

“How dare you?” I growled, holding up my clenched fist to her face. Tears cracked its way from my tear gland, gushing into my eyes.

“Please Mr. Walker, you need to calm down,” Dr. Belinda interfered, standing between I and Aurora.

“With all due respect Doctor, I need you to step out of this so you don’t get hurt,” my chest rose and fell very quickly.
“No! I won’t let you sir. Please do not make me call the security on you,” she pleaded. Aurora quickly hopped off the bed, taking cover behind her.

“You knew how much this meant to me Aurora! My life, my legacy all depended on that seed. I cared for you! I nurtured you even when I realized you were cheating on me with your high school lover, Craig!” she startled with her eyes wide open immediately I mentioned it.

“I want you to mention one thing I didn’t do for you. Go ahead Aurora,” I barked but there was silence. “Don’t fucking keep quiet on me! Tell me what I didn’t do for you! I cared and gave you anything you wanted! I went as far as rejecting my mate for your sake!” I barked, pulling down the trolley drawer by my side.

“I’m sorry Alan, please forgive me. I’m sorry,” Aurora whimpered.

“Don’t you ever mention my name,” my entire body vibrated as my eyes blazed with anger. A tear finally glided its way down my chin.

“I’m sorry but I’m calling the security on you, sir,” Doctor Belinda said, reaching for her phone. “Security? I need you at the ultrasound…”

I yanked the phone off her ear, slamming it against the wall. Aurora quickly jumped off behind her in a bid to escape. My wolf speed kicked in. I sped off in milliseconds, grasping her arm by the door.

“Please Alan! You’re hurting my arm! Please let go,” she wriggled under my grip.
“I do not want to see you anywhere near my home!” I spat, gnashing my teeth in despair. My chest heaved so much that I found it difficult to breathe. I lingered my stare for a while before walking out on them. I pushed the door so hard it slammed against the wall before jamming with a loud thud.

Why would she want to do this to me? I marched past sluggish patients loitering along the walk way, shoving past others without remorse.

“Hey! Watch it!” a grumpy old lady spat after I jabbed her alongside her walking aid towards the parking lot.

I turned a deaf ear, sliding into the back of my Ford Maverick. “Get me out of here!” I barked at the driver, catching his eye from the rare mirror.

“Sorry Sir, but what about Mrs. Walker? Ain’t we going to wait for her?” he questioned in a polite tone, unaware of my state of mind.

“Turn the goddamn car on and get me out of here this minute!” my eyes flashed crimson red as my fangs extended after a deep growl.

Fear flashed across my driver’s face. He twisted the key, turned on the ignition and drove off immediately. It was already 5:00 p.m, so I ordered that he take me home. We pulled into the estate and luckily I saw my beta, Jeffery, speaking with Amos and some other junior security guards. I didn’t wait for the car to come to rest when I pushed the door open.

“Jeffery!” I called out. He spun around immediately, signalling that I give him a minute.

I nodded, walking into the house. Each step I took became blurry from intense thought but I managed to make it to the mini bar in the sitting room, pulling out a bottle of Vodka and an alcohol glass. I had gulped down three shots before Jeffery got in the house.

“What’s up man? You don’t look good. What’s the issue?” his brows furrowed in curiosity.

How do I start? How do I explain that I am back to the very beginning? What would happen when the council realizes everything about an incoming heir was nothing but a lie. I raked through my hair, taking another gulp.

“At this point Alan, you have to say something,” Jeffery frowned at my silence.

“It's Aurora,” I paused, my hands trembling around the glass cup. “She tricked me!”

Jeffery’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Tricked?” He scoffed. “You are getting me confused. What do you mean by "she tricked you?” He pressed me more for an answer.

“She lied man!” My legs bounced involuntarily under the table. “She fucking lied to me about the pregnancy. That witch!” my voice slightly raised. “Oh my God,” I brushed through my hair with a painful grin on my face. “She tricked me into believing she was pregnant for four fucking months, Jeff! She was never pregnant!” I stated.

“What?”’ Jeffery exclaimed in shock. “Nah…you can't be serious, man! There has to be a mistake somewhere,” he stated.

“There isn't Jeffery. She didn't deny it. To top it up she has been having an affair with doctor Craig and both of them worked together in pulling this trick on me!”

“Holy mother of the moon!” Jeffery exclaimed. “This is bad! You are definitely going to be stripped of this position if anybody from the council hears this, Alan. You've got to do something!

I rose from my seat, pacing the room. My mind painted pictures of what I had anticipated—the laughter of kids in the courtyard, the look of dismtappointment that would have been on the faces of my opposition when I finally carried my son and named him my heir. My heart twisted.

“Fuck!” I yelled, sending the glass cup in my hand into the wall before I turned to Jeffery. I need every damn information about Doctor Craig. Find him and bring him to me!” I slammed my fist on the table, as tiny specs of saliva flew from my mouth.

Jeffery nodded, immediately fiddling his phone for a couple of seconds. “I'd follow up on it, sir. But how about Aurora? Wouldn't it be more suspicious sir if she no longer stays in the pack with you? I think regardless of all these. She has to remain here even though it's just to play the role of Luna. We can afford to give tongues reasons to wag.”

Jeffery was right. I pulled out my phone to dial her number. As expected, it rang a couple of times with no response. It was then it clicked in my head that I had installed a tracker in her vehicle.

Quickly, I opened the app on my phone and pressed the button. A small dot lit up on the screen amidst a map, showing her car moving east. My chest tightened, a mix of anger and relief washing over me. At least I knew where she was. I shared the location with Jeffery and kept my eyes on that dot.

My grip around my phone tightened as I imagined what I would do the moment she returned to this house.

Jeffery rose from his seat, patting my shoulder. “I understand how you feel, man, but you have to relax and handle this well. Any slip from your emotion could be disastrous. I'm sure we will figure this out,” he assured.

I heaved a sigh of relief from the comfort his words brought. “Thanks Jeff. Keep on updated,” I responded, walking out of the bar.

I haven't taken a couple of steps when I got a notification from the fire alarm in my office. Followed by the video text from an unknown number.

I quickly opened it to be greeted by yellow flames and thick black smoke rising from the top floor of my company. My jaw slacked.

Another text popped on my screen and it read.

I RECEIVED YOUR GET-WELL- SOON PACKAGE. IT WOULD BE RUDE OF ME IF I DIDN'T SHOW MY APPRECIATION. I HOPE YOU LOVE THE FIRE WORKS.
