Chapter 27 Enough

Chapter 27 Enough
Turns out, I wasn't as wise as I thought I was. Turns out, I was not hiding. I was just playing around in plain sight, my predator waiting to catch me right when the moment came.

I walked out of the gym, my heart in shattered, tiny pieces. Of all people, I would never want to cross Alpha Kyran. I could dabble in and out with Alpha Eros. I could avoid Alpha Karl. Alpha Eugene was still gone ever since Eros busted his face.

But Alpha Kyran...

My eyes closed as I struggled to breathe. Tears filled my eyes fast. I have one month to uncover the truth.

He was right, in the end. The truth was for my liberation. For my brother. But most probably not for justice. These men were drunk on power and influence, on money, on strength.

I was nothing compared to the rest of them.

I walked absent mindedly towards the infirmary. Knox was still asleep, and I found myself walking back to Eros's place.

I stopped right in front of the door, then turned around. The hallways were empty, and I turned the doorknob. It was open.

My heart skipped a beat, and I walked inside, expecting to see Eros.

The house was just as I left it this morning, and I bit down on my lips hard as I closed the door behind me.

My eyes fell on Eros's locked door, and before I could stop myself, I ran to it, pushing it open forcefully.

I expected a push back, I expected it to refuse to budge.

But it did. The door swung open sharply, and I feel right into the room, barely even able to keep my stance.

The room was hauntingly dark, and clean. No traces of the smashed plates I had seen yesterday, no trace of Eros.

It was like a ghost that Eros had left behind to hauntingly me for all of the lies.

My eyes fell on the painting on the wall. It was still there, untouched. I walked to it, my eyes widening as I took in the painting.

It was beautiful, intricate, and the treacherous part of my mind imagined the hours he must have put in, the way his hair could have clung unto his body with sweat, his skin glistening under the lights.

Tears threatened to rip my chest open, and my knees slowly gave way under me. I didn't even try to fight. I just went down, my body accepting defeat as I broke down.

Between my safety, my love, my matebond, and my brother... it felt like I was losing on every front.

My heart broke as I lay on the floor, my body trembling hard with tears. I could hear it all in my ears, in my mind, on my skin.

The kiss, the lies, the rumours, the pain. Each one was tearing me towards a direction, and I wasn't sure what to follow. I wasn't sure what to go with.

I pushed myself from the floor. Why was I,here, breaking down like this?

Eros may be my brother's killed, yet here I am, like a fool, mourning something that never even lived. Mourning something that should never come to life.

I walked slowly back to my room, then started to pack up. I never even arranged anything, so it was easy. I packed up my duffel bag, then walked towards the drawer where Valerian's necklace was.

Would Eros notice? Maybe. But do I care?

I slowly took the necklace, then pushed the drawer open and walked out of the house.

"Kian."

I turned to my left, and Knox was running up to me, his nose and chin covered in bandages.

"Knox," I said, my eyes widening. "You should be resting, what are you doing here?"

He shrugged. "I woke up and figured you would be preparing to leave this place, so I went to look for a room for you."

I shook my head. "You didn’t have to. We both know that it would be even harder to find a room now that this happened, and no one would..."

"Come to my room," he said, cutting me off.

"Wh... what? Your room is occupied and..."

"Not anymore. My roommates vacated because they didn't want to be associated with me anymore. It's perfect. We can share the room."

My brows furrowed. It was perfect. I wouldn't have to hide in the library especially with bathing and changing, but I also would be walking right into trouble. On one hand, I would be fulfilling Alpha Kyran's wish, but on the other hand, Eros...

"Are you worried about Alpha Eros?"

I immediately shook my head. "No, I... I guess I am just exhausted."

He nodded, taking my bag. "Long, crazy day. Come let's get you settled in."

I stood there, watching as he turned around, limping a little, yet carrying my bag. I turned to the door. It was locked, empty, yet...

"Kian!"

I turned, and Knox was beckoning me over, his eyes big and beautiful, his smile even better.

The bandages on his face were a mark of my lies, and I gritted my teeth hard to keep the tears away.

"Coming!" I yelled back, pushing away all the thoughts of Eros.

In the end, matebonds between an omega and a Dionte Alpha was impossible. Alpha Kyran was right.

One month. I could hold on to this month. Find the truth about Valerian's death, then move on. Leave this pack and everyone behind.

It was the best thing to do.

I covered the distance to Knox, then grabbed his arm and wrapped it around my shoulder, my other hand wrapping around his waist to support him.

He coughed hard, and I caught a deep red blush spreading on his cheeks.

It made me laugh, seeing how hard he was trying to hide it, but was miserably failing. At the very least, even if I have done nothing in this miserable place, I found Knox. At the very least....

I would leave here with the memories of Knox, and if I tried to convince myself hard enough... that alone would be enough.
