Chapter 10 Who Are You?

Chapter 10 Who Are You?
Silence fell on the entire hall, and for another minute, he just watched me, his eyes cold. Suddenly, he took a step towards me, and it took every bit of courage I had to not move away. I looked up to him, my chest heaving hard, my heart pounding so hard I felt faint.

"Why do you want to be my roommate?" His voice was low, his eyes holding mine.

"I need a place to sleep."

"The library befits you. You think I let just anyone in my room?"

"It's a condition. You are obligated to fulfil it."

He laughed, then nodded and moved back as he wrapped his hands in front of him. "Done. Beat me in this duel, and you can have a room in my space."

I nodded, then moved away. Someone walked up to me and handed me gloves. I wore them quickly, then walked into the open space. I knew I was going to get beaten up to a pulp, but I was determined to at least fight back. To at least stand up for myself.

Alpha Eros looked a little bored, his hands behind him. Once I was done, a bell went off. My eyes fell on Knox, who had his hand on his head, his lips parted like he was already mourning my fate.

I bit down on my lips and turned away. Eros was watching me, his eyes taking all of me in. He was sizing me up, like I was nothing but a pea.

"Take the first swing," he said, pushing his hands through his hair.

I watched almost enchantingly as he released his hair from the bun, then quickly started to tie it again.

I immediately took the first swing, aiming right for his neck. I thought I had him. He was distracted. He had his hands in his hair. I really thought that this would be it.

Just before I reached his neck, he moved and immediately tackled me to the floor. I hit my forehead against the wooden floors, and I let out a shriek that was far too feminine for this environment.

The pain was like a thunderbolt straight to my brain, and I could barely think, talk more of deepening my voice to sound like a man's.

I could hear laughter erupt from the crowd, and I turned on my back, my eyes opening. Eros was standing away from me, his hands clasped behind his back.

"Alpha Eros," Knox suddenly said, standing up. "He is a new extra. He is very barely alpha. You are going to kill him if you continue."

Eros shrugged. "I have barely even touched him."

"I know, but..."

"He willingly volunteered. Why should I stop?"

"Please, Alpha. Please. Please."

Alpha Eros gave a small sigh, then nodded. "I will have mercy. How about you give me someone else, Knox, and we will have this lad go back to his room."

I swallowed, closing my eyes. My chest heaved, as Alpha Eros suddenly covered the distance to me, then offered me his hand.

I stared at it for a long while, wondering if I would end up with a limp hand like Knox or if he was sincere.

"You can take it," he said, his eyes holding mine.

I slowly stretched my hand to him, then took his hand. It was warm, and he held my hand in a firm grip. One that made me feel more feminine than was safe for me in here.

I could feel all of the reverberations I felt last night, and I was beginning to see that there was a reason he had invaded my dreams throughout. It was because he... he was....

"Alpha Eros, we..."

I used his distraction as an opportunity and pulled him right down to me, my fingers gripping hard unto his.

He was caught off guard, and before I knew it, his body hovered by a mere inch above mine, his arm holding him up, his eyes wide as he met mine.

His hair fell out of the bun it had been in and fell on either side of his face, the red strands framing his forehead.

I could see the surprise in his eyes, the shock, and the connection I hoped he wouldn't feel. I wasn't his mate in here. I am Kian. I am not his mate.

I held my breath and, with all of my strength, wrapped my legs swiftly around his waist and turned us both around. I could tell he just let me because if he had decided not to move an inch, he wouldn't, and my strength was nothing compared to his.

I sat there above him, his eyes still holding mine, his hair sprawled all over on the ground, his hands on either side of him. He was unblinking, his lips slightly parted, a few strands of his hair clinging on to his neck.

Like a flash of sin, I could see myself pulling further into his body, resting on him, my hands running along his neck, my lips parted against his, my body pressing up against his.

I closed my eyes for a brief second to catch my breath before I opened them again, my eyes finding his all over again. He was still watching me, like I was some sort of alien. Like he had never seen me before.

Suddenly, he moved his hand up to me. I stayed there, spellbound and unable to move, as his fingers pushed past my hair. My eyes closed as his fingers cupped the right edge of my neck. I hated the lack of resistance I had. I hated how easily he could bend me like I was iron, and he was my fire. My embers.

I heard the gasps as he pulled me down to him, till my body was pressed up against his, till I could feel his breath against my skin, till my lashes touched his when I blinked.

For a long moment, we stayed there, lost in something that couldn't be real and yet... I could tell I wasn't the only one who felt it.

"Who are you?" He asked, his voice soft and low, his brows furrowed lightly. "What are you doing?"

I swallowed hard. I am Skylar North, a woman. I am here to find my brother's killer.

I broke the eye contact and looked away from him, my chest heaving hard, my heart going on over drive.

He seemed to catch himself in that moment, and before I knew it, I was sent flying off his body and landing straight to the floor. I gave a loud groan as Knox ran over to where I was now lying, while the man I identified as Karl came over to where Eros was lying and gave him a hand.

Eros accepted the hand and stood up, pushing his hair back, his chest heaving hard as his eyes settled on me.

"I think he won, Alpha Eros," Knox suddenly said, turning to Eros. "He had your back on the floor first."

Eros raised a brow and turned to me.

"I will take it that I won, too," I said, stepping up.

Alpha Eros broke into a smile, then nodded. "Fine, then. Congrats."

He turned away, but I immediately took a step further. "The room?"

His head tilted upwards before he finally nodded. "You have it," he said, his voice low. "You can pack up to my place."
