Chapter 18
“When someone is used to abuses and insults, good behavior from the same bullies always rings ominous bells for them. People do change, but a complete revolution overnight is against the rules of nature.”
This was the current situation of Chloe, whose normal life was a thorn in her own eyes. Comfortable room, three meals with meat, new clothes and a weekly allowance, so much to hide a failed rape attempt.
Seriously, if Noah and Stark had killed her, no one would have held them accountable for this brilliance. Then what’s up with all the benevolence all of a sudden.
In the whole foreign scenario, one thing was permanent: Emma’s hostility. She was silent, but her eyes were full of hatred and murderous intent, confirming Chloe that she was in the same Shadow Moon Pack, not in an alternative reality.
Two weeks spent with harmony and in these new alarming conditions, Emma gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Despite celebrating the birth of their baby girl, Noah and Stark left shortly after the delivery, leaving Emma alone in this tough time. Alpha Lawrence and Luna Lily were unhappy too, so all the workers were keeping low-key to avoid unnecessary punishment.
“Stark and Noah were expecting a baby boy, but the Moon Goddess slapped them on their faces. They deserve it!”
Lulu was tuned to another frequency, so Chloe scolded her.
“Bad, Lulu! Who said to you that having a baby girl is Heaven’s retribution? Even our Goddess is female, it’s the biggest blessing to be a female or a parent of a baby girl.”
Lulu was guilty, but she reasoned with her.
“Then you tell me why Alpha Lawrence’s family is so sad, like they have attended a funeral just a few moments ago? They wanted an heir, Chloe! And a girl can’t be an heir of two mighty Alphas. Accept it or not, this is reality.”
She huffed and hid in the corner, starting her “Boycott Chloe” Mission. As this was the first dispute between her and her wolf, Chloe let it go.
“Ok, Lulu. I agree with you. I think you are more knowledgeable than me. You are the best.”
A bit of buttering flattered her wolf, which resulted at the end of her protest.
…
In the morning, Chloe was cleaning the kitchen’s counters when she heard disturbed chatters in the Pack house. At first, she ignored it but soon, her sensitive hearing caught some flaring voices.
“Why are they here? Who even allowed them to step in our territory? Beep!”
There was a long list of curses to call those unwanted guests, but now was willing to call them by their names or identity.
Chloe thought that there must be a delegation from some rival Pack, usually this kind of “warm welcome” was specific for them.
.
.
“Wolfe! Where are you?”
.
Busy in washing the dishes, Chloe jumped at this familiar voice, a glass slipped from her hands.
“Jason?”
She inquired to clear her doubt. Her heart was dancing in her chest, threatening to come out.
“Yes, Wolfe! It’s me. Come to the Alpha Lawrence’s office now.”
He mind-linked her in a domineering tone, an effort to summon her.
“Alpha hottie is here!”
Lulu exclaimed, howling and jumping. Chloe asked another omega to take her place and wiped her hands with a towel, running towards Alpha’s office.
“So, they didn’t forget me.”
Chloe thought to herself. Lulu was accelerating her pace, disregarding weird gazes from the Pack members. As she arrived at the office, her heart flooded with warmth, seeing her friend’s gang.
Jason, William, Freya, and even Lisa were with them, standing obediently behind Jason.
“Alpha!”
Chloe bowed her head while baring her neck, greeting her true Alpha. Jason looked at Alpha Lawrence with a victorious grin, “Rise, Wolfe!”
Freya crushed her in a hug.
“How are you, Chloe? We are sorry that we were not at home to stop you from leaving. Are you angry with us? Oh, Gosh! I missed you.”
She spat out all her emotions at once, her high tail swaying, matching the rhythm of her statement. Chloe smiled while rubbing her eyes.
“I missed you too, Freya. I am so happy to see you. What about your exams, William? And Jason, did you get your work done?”
She was desperate for the latest updates. Those were the questions she thought about before sleeping every night. She had assumed many possible answers, but now, she wanted the truth.
“Yes, everything went well. William secured first place in the whole batch and, obviously, no one dared to defy my orders.”
Jason eyed Alpha Lawrence, who was in an exceptionally pleasant mood.
“Chloe, why don’t you take your guests to your room? You guys should spend some time together.”
“Yes, Alpha!”
Chloe guided them to her new room, where Jason instantly jumped on her bed, claiming his territory.
“It’s so fun to see so many werewolves. I feel like I’m home.”
Rick was overexcited in werewolf’s Pack, as it was his first time encountering a proper community of his kind.
“It’s not about you every time, Jason. We are here for our Chloe.”
Freya glared at Jason, who was unfazed by her scolding.
“We heard that you left on your own. Is that true?”
Typical William, straight to the business.
“Yes, Allen Ellsworth told me that I can’t stay here after official rejection, I had to leave. Luckily, Alpha Lawrence took me back.”
“Rejection?”
“They think our mate accepted us and still, we left, what a bunch of idiots!”
Rejection was Lulu’s aching nerve, its reminder was enough to enrage her.
“Father lord didn’t mention this. He said that you requested to go back as you have found your first mate, and you preferred an Alpha mate over a Royal vampire.”
William informed her about the Royal’s propaganda. Chloe was aghast at Allen’s accusation.
“That’s not the case. My first mate was indeed an Alpha, but he married my class fellow because I was a wolf-less omega. But it was before meeting Edith.”
Chloe explained her experience. Jason growled, not able to conceal his fury.
“Told you, Dad will never let them meet. And Royal Uncle, he thrashed me to death just to reject you in the end? I am so disappointed.”
“But Royal Uncle left the Villa after that meeting. My sire followed him to the dense forest.”
Freya continued Jason’s statement, providing them with her sire’s information.
“There is something fishy, Chloe! You should come back with us. Official rejection isn’t enough. We should find Royal Uncle and find out what’s the truth.”
William was determined to dig the old graves, even Chloe’s refusal didn’t convince him.
“I agree with you, William. We should try harder. Mates are difficult to find. Fate doesn’t give you multiple chances.”
They all agreed and left her alone with Lisa, going on their quest of finding Alpha Lawrence.
“Are you alright, Lisa?”
Chloe removed her collar and offered her snacks, which she received gratefully.
“Master is very kind to me. He bought another pet to share my burden. I fell sick last week, and he took me to the hospital. I am happy.”
She praised Jason like every other slave and asked her a strange question.
“Did your first mate reject you before marrying another girl?”
