Uncertainty

Uncertainty
Leiah POV

“Leiah,” Gabbie hissed. “This isn’t like you!”

I sniffled. Tears threatened to fall.

“I’m sorry,” I sobbed.

Bubbles of emotions rose inside me.

“For what?” Gabbie asked, bewildered. “Leiah, did something happen to you? You can tell me anything.”

She placed her hand on my back.

“Yes, something happened. I was injured, and my wolf suffered more than me. I lost my rank.”

Gabbie remained quiet for a while.

“How much rank did you lose?”

“I’m an omega.”

She made a small sound, which I assumed was a gasp.

“Are you sure?”

I nodded. “My wolf’s an omega now.”

“Leiah, I’m sorry.”

“You don’t have to be sorry. I’m the one who’s sorry for how I treated you. For the Alpha power I used on you. I was horrible.”

“Leiah,” she snapped. “Are you sorry for being my friend? For staying up late with me, nursing babies when Kade had to be out late? Are you sorry for putting your body on the line for our friends?”

“It’s not like that,” I sniffled.

“You don’t give yourself enough credit. We all made mistakes when we were younger.”

“Mine seem to hurt more than others,” I murmured.

“So what’s going on with Gareth? Do you like him?”

“I don’t not like him.”

Gabbie frowned. “That’s not an answer.”

“It doesn’t matter if I like him or not. He was Eva’s fated mate. She loved him, you remember that right?”

Gabbie nodded. “I remember. She loved him, and she’d want him to be happy. She loved you too. Isn’t it great that her two favourite people found each other?”

I sniffled. “I didn’t think about it that way. I’m not sure.”

“Harlow definitely wasn’t her favourite. You know what, I’ll speak to Gareth, I’ll kick his ass and make him see reason.”

“Gareth isn’t the same. He’s the Alpha King, the terrifying, cursed King. He wouldn’t want me as a mate. I don’t know if my wolf would ever recover. I don’t know if I want it to either.”

“It’s not impossible for you to get your Alpha female rank back. I was an omega too, remember?”

“You do you suppose I kill, Gabbie?” I narrowed my eyes at her.

“It doesn’t have to be a power kill. A power steal would be good enough.”

“Do you know how slim the chances are of me beating an Alpha female? I could fight off the housekeeper.”

Gabbie sighed heavily.

“Gareth doesn’t want a relationship anyway. I have to pick up my life without him.”

“If this is because you’re an omega, I’ll whoop his ass right now!” Gabbie shot to her feet.

Gareth barked out a laugh. “Oh, Gabriella. You haven’t changed. You’re always thinking about my ass.”

Gabbie gasped. “What? Me? No!”

Gareth lifted his shoulders. “Don’t worry, Kade won’t hear about this. Leiah, you should get to bed. You’ve had a long day.”

“You want me to spend the night here?” I asked.

The corners of his mouth lifted. “Yeah.”

He carried me to the safety of his room. I snuggled closer to his chest.

“I don’t care if you’re an omega or not. I hope you know that.”

“If you say so.”

He lay me on his bed and joined me.

“You still don’t want this bond,” I stated.

He took my hand and squeezed it. “I don’t deserve you.”

“So you’re just going to let me go.”

He rolled on his side and took my face in his hand. “I’m not the man I used to be Leiah.”

I laughed. “I’m not the woman I used to be.”

He grinned. “We’re two different people then.”

“We’re fucked.”

Gareth inched closer and, surprisingly, brushed his nose against mine.

“Speaking of fucking—”

“Gareth!”

“Damn, Alex. No one interrupted him on his wedding night.”

“Gabbie said Eva might like the idea of us together,” I said, with a glimmer of hope.

Gareth blinked a few times. “I-I’m just scared of hurting you. I’m not the same man.”

“You didn’t hurt me when your powers took over today.”

He sat up and looked down at me. “Do you want me, Leiah?”

It was a powerful question. It had me tongue-tied.

“Y-Yes, I do.”

He clenched his jaw. “Fine. To prove to you I don’t care about your rank, I’m going to consummate our bond while you’re still an omega.”

I swallowed. “Right now?”

He nodded.

“Okay,” I exhaled.

I pulled my shirt off. Gareth moved my hands and took control of my undressing. When we were both undressed, he climbed on top of me.

“It’s been a while since I’ve done this,” I whispered.

He grinned and brushed my hair back. “We have more in common than I thought. I won’t hurt you.”

I nodded. He positioned himself at my entrance. My heart pounded a little harder as I waited for him to move. He leaned in to kiss me instead. He immediately parted my lips to taste my tongue. I moaned.

This felt so right. Nothing could convince me otherwise. Gareth rolled his hips forward and filled me up.

“So good,” Gareth groaned. “Yes, Leiah, we are dating.”

I laughed as he thrust into me. “So we’re official?”

“Not yet.”

“What?”

He kissed my neck before he sank his teeth into my flesh. He marked me. I gasped. The mate bond snapped into place. It was stronger than a rope. It was like metal joining us together.

“Gareth,” I panted.

“Mate,” he growled. “My mate. No, my Queen Luna.”

He thrust into me harder and faster. My climax was near, and judging by his speed, his was closer. Gareth roared as he climaxed. My vision blurred from the pleasure overload.

I panted as Gareth placed small kisses on my neck.

“That was amazing,” he chuckled. “Are you okay?”

“Better than okay.”

He pulled me to his chest. “Get some rest, Leiah.”

He tangled his fingers in my hair. I listened to his steady heartbeat. I felt secure in his embrace. This relationship felt stronger than anything else I’d ever been in.

I fell asleep in his arms, hoping it would last.
