Chapter 12 — Worst Nightmare

TAYLOR’S POV:

Have you ever felt like nothing is worse than your nightmare? That’s what I initially thought. I mean like really, nothing can be as bad as it seems to be. But today was nothing I like I would have expected it to be.

I was on the way to school driving my car that my parents had given me on my eighteenth birthday last summer. I was extremely happy to see that they had bought me a red car, which was my favorite color.

I was driving my car and I didn’t expect to get into an accident. I was actually waiting for the traffic light to turn green so that I could drive but before the light turned green, the car behind me crashed into me, damaging the back of my car.

I hit my head hard on the steering wheel due to the impact. I recover myself and check the camera my dad installed at the back of the car. I was so glad that my dad insisted on installing a camera at the back of my car because I now had evidence of him using his phone while driving the car with one hand.

Immediately, I call my car insurance and the police to get the matter settled since I wasn’t at fault and had to ring my parents to let them know what had happened. I suddenly remembered to call my teacher-in-charge so she could inform Ms. Margaret, my math teacher, that I would be late for class.

My parents panicked and drove over immediately to my location when I told them what happened. “Baby girl, are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

I smile and say, “Yep. I am alright. Luckily I didn’t get any injuries.”

My dad clenches his fists in anger and says, “That driver is going to be in deep trouble. He almost hurt my baby girl in her car.”

Before I could stop my father, he goes over and reprimands the driver and I could see the driver shivering in fear, definitely scared of getting scolded as well as the consequences he will have to pay to cover the damage to my car.

After an hour, when I was done with everything, my parents tell to go ahead to my class and that they will settle everything for me. I take a taxi at the taxi stand and give my school address to the driver.

On the way to school, I feel a slight headache on my head which most likely is due to everything that had happened. I push the pain at the back of my mind and close my eyes, hopeful that by the time I reach school, I won’t feel the pain anymore.

Someone shakes my shoulder and I wake up, finding myself in the parking lot of my school. I pass the taxi fare to the driver and thank him by saying, “Keep the change. Your ride was so good that I immediately fell asleep.”

The driver chuckles and says, “Have a great day ahead, miss.”

I wave him goodbye and close the taxi door and make my way into the school entrance, walking along the quiet hallway towards my locker.

When I open my locker, I find some chocolate. Someone had been leaving chocolate in my locker after just one week of me joining here and I still hadn’t figured out who it is. I keep the chocolate safely ever since, mainly because I love chocolate. I close my locker and make my way to my classroom.

I knock and open the door, finding myself looking awkward because I have never been late before. Ms. Margaret says, “Please come inside, Ms. Taylor. Your teacher-in-charge has already told me the reason why you are late, so you do not need to explain anything to me.”

I nod my head in response and make my way into the classroom.

Ms. Margaret smiles and says, “Please take a seat. We are going through a new topic today, so find your seat and get ready for lesson.”

I look around the classroom to see who my sitting partner is and I am shocked when I see Melissa, giving me an evil look. I didn’t even want that bitch to sit close to me or even talk to me because every time she is around me, I get the urge to punch her on her face.

I slowly make my way to my seat, ignoring the look that she was giving and take the chance to look at my best friends and smile at them. At that point of time, I notice that Zach sitting next to Liam; both of them look really awkward as they hate each other.

In the middle of the lesson when Ms. Margaret was teaching us a new formula, I felt my phone vibrating and I saw 100+ messages on WhatsApp.

“Are you alright, we heard what happened to you!”

“Why are you sitting next to that bitch?”

“Urghh, her voice is so irritating!!”

“Damn, her perfume is so strong; I can’t smell anything else.”

I totally agree with the last one because I hate perfume that gives out a strong smell. I laugh at the message my best friends have sent about Melissa until I see her raising her hand up. “Ms. Margaret, Taylor is using her phone in class.”

I smirk inside knowing that she would surely sabotage me in some way. Ms. Margaret stops what she was doing and asks, “Is that true, Ms. Taylor?”

“Yes, it is. My parents messaged me to check on me after what happened this morning.”

Ms. Margaret nods in understanding and turns back to the board. “Okay. Let’s continue with our lesson.”

I look at Melissa with a smirk on my face as she frowns at me. I put my phone away and focus on Ms. Margaret’s lesson.

It is time for our lunch break, and I pack my stuff in my bag ignoring Melissa’s mindless chatter while I make my way to my friends.

Charlotte was the first to speak. “How are you? Are you okay? We heard what happened.”

“I am alright. Let’s stop all this questioning, I will tell you the whole thing later. Let’s go for lunch now, I am famished. I didn’t eat breakfast.”

All of us sit at our usual place and Jayden and Kayden say in unison, “We almost thought that we were going to lose our teddy bear.”

The twins call me teddy bear since I met them because I like to hug them a lot. I laugh and say, “I’m here right now. Fine and healthy, like always.”

All of them chuckle and we go back to our normal lunch, with me telling them what happened. I notice that Zach had been awfully quiet today and I was the first to break and say, “Why are you so quiet today?”

Daniel says, “Because he was wo…”

Before he could finish his sentence, he screams in pain and looks at Zach furiously. “What was that for?”

I look at the both of them confused why Zach was acting weird these few days and whenever Daniel wanted to tell me anything, he was being either hit or interrupted by Zach. I eye Zach waiting for his answer.

He says, “I am just tired with all those football competitions coming up this Friday.”

I nod my head knowing that because my cheerleader girls were going to perform on Friday.

I take out my chocolate and suddenly everyone looks at me. “Why are you all looking at me like you want a piece of my chocolate?”

Ava says, “No, we don’t. I mean your chocolate look delicious but what we wanted to ask you is whether you have found out who your secret admirer is.”

I shake my head and continue eating my chocolate because I still didn’t know who it was.

After school, I quickly make my way for my cheerleader practice. I’m in a rush to change into my cheerleading outfit when I hit someone on his/her shoulder. I look up to see the last person I wanted to see right now.

I mouth a sorry to Liam without stopping to talk to him and continue walking to the cheerleader changing room. After I was done changing, I make my way to the stadium to find all my cheerleader girls already there. The instructor says, “Okay. Girls gather around. We need full attention today as there are only four days left for the real thing. Let’s get stretching girls.”

In the middle of the training, I feel light-headed and weak. I could not feel my leg and I feel as if the ground is spinning. The last thing I hear is people calling my name as I fall to the ground…
