Chapter 25 Chapter 25

Troy

She had sent me off like I was nothing to her, running off to Leo anytime he called.

I would never tell her the kind of asshole her stepbrother was; that was left for her to find out.

He didn't deserve her, not when we were kids and especially not now.

I just didn't know why Skylar kept choosing him over and over again.

The party was being held in my house, and I decided to go to my room.

The house was a gift from my grandmother, but I didn't like staying in it because of how much it reminded me of my parents.

I had forgotten my cell phone outside, so I decided to go get it before heading back upstairs.

Once outside, I could see everyone surrounding the pool like there was a circus going on there.

But I didn't mind them; that might be one of their new games, and I wasn't ready to play. I was already towards the house when I heard her voice.

And I knew that voice, that childlike tone that, when she sang, sounded like eggshells. But why was she screaming, and what the heck was going on?

I pushed past the crowd till I saw her inside the pool.

Skylar couldn't swim, so what the heck was she doing in the pool alone? And that was when it registered: she wasn't swimming; she was acting like she was drowning.
I dove in instantly; she was sinking deeper by now.

She didn't recognize me as I pulled her to the surface. What was I even saying? Her eyes were closed shut, and cold fear ran through my spine, the kind where you didn't want to lose someone.

Lying by the side of the pool, I gave her CPR, praying that my illusion would just stay at the back of my mind.

She didn't move; by now everyone was acting sympathetic, and they were frowning.

I was so furious that I knew if I didn't put a hold to it, I would end up hurting someone.

Were they really fools? How could they all stand there ignorant while someone was drowning right in front of them?

They were inhumane, and their social experience was terrible.

I pumped her chest some more, and this time she started coughing out water. As I hugged her fiercely for a moment, I really thought I was going to lose her.

I laid her on the beach bench so she could revitalize; it took time before she started coming back to reality.

By the side I saw Tiffany point fingers, accusing Skylar of attempting to drown them both.

I got really angry at her remark, and to think Leo was going to confront Skylar in her state—that meant he really didn't have a conscience.

Skylar sat up at that moment. "I didn't do it, Leo; Tiffany is just lying."

"You are saying that when you are the one that is being difficult, Tiffany has been doing everything so you can be as close as you used to be in high school, but you are not giving the space."

"Wait, that is what she told you. Why do you keep believing her over me over and over again?"

"Because she is a nice girl, and you—I just don't know."

“Gosh, you are such a dummy," Skylar let out exhaustedly, and this time Leo lunged at her; this time I stepped up.

“Don't you dare touch my girlfriend," I warned. “How the hell do you know who is right or wrong when you weren't even here?"

He raised his brows at me; he was flirting with some girl when I tried entering the house the first time.

He knew it was a challenge, and if he dared say something I didn't like, I was going to bring it out to the public.

"Because I believe what I see ”,

"You know what, you both should get out of my party," I ordered, furious that Leo could be that gullible.

This time, Tiffany panicked, coming to stand close to Leo and holding his arm. "Are we really going to leave?" she asked in a feigned tone, which irritated me to the core.

I took Skylar in my arms, taking her inside the house and straight to the bathroom; she sat there limp and exhausted.

I tried helping her to take off her shawl, but she was obstinate about it.

I sat beside her. "I am sorry for leaving; if I didn't leave, none of this would have happened," I apologized but blamed myself nevertheless.

She smiled, turned towards me, and pulled me into a searing kiss, even though I didn't like saying or admitting it.

Skylar took my breath away; it was funny but true. The way she always rewarded me with a kiss when she felt nostalgic was actually cute.

She broke the kiss, saying, "Apology accepted, and I am also sorry for being harsh."

“Mmm, are you?"

“Yeah",

I stood facing her. "Can you take off your clothes now?" I pleaded. I didn't want her to catch a cold or something. With the way she was wrapping herself in her wet clothes.

"I don't know," she said, shaking her head.

"You know, my mom once said our scars made us beautiful," I said, and she smiled.

"You know, when I was little, I had this fall and got this scar." I was referring to the fading scar close to my shoulder blades.

“At first, my shoulders were loop-sized, so when I walked, it was noticed. Then as I grew, it got better and better, and here we are.” I raised my hands in the air so she saw it wasn't a big deal anymore. Before bending my head, I kissed the scars that were open to the bare eyes. "You are too pretty to be ashamed. ”,

She flinched at first before moaning, and I lifted her, placing her on the faucet counter.

There was noise outside, and I wondered what the fuss was all about.

Leo was banging on the door furiously while Tiffany was calling out Skylar's name… "Come out here, Skylar; your secret is out. Everyone knows you are in love with your stepbrother." ”,

With that she gasped, and I knew she was scared, which made me wonder, if I hadn't told them, then who did?

The door flung open immediately, and Skylar brought my face closer to hers, kissing me like her life really depended on it.

Everyone was shocked, if they were here for a
confrontation, then the look on their faces meant they were reconsidering their actions.
