Chapter 18 Chapter 18
Chapter 18 Chapter 18
Troy
If this was the first cloth Skylar was wearing and she looked this good, I wonder how the rest would look on her.
She was feeling shy, I could tell, and she was fumbling the hem of her gown.
She didn't know what I thought, and she really needed my validation, but I kept mute to ignite the suspense. She started moving her mouth from side to side.
“Fuck you, Troy, say something,” she snapped angrily, which really made me laugh. I loved getting on her nerves.
“Thought you’d never ask.” “On a scale of one to ten, hmmmm, let me think.” She was rolling her eyes at me.
“Quit playing; you are making me nervous. ”,
“Okay, fine.” I said, surrendering my hands in the air, “I will give a nine.”
“What happened to a-ten?” she asked.
“If you knew the digits, then why ask me?”
“So that means we are keeping it.”
“Yeah, why not?”
She tried out an eyelet pink dress and a Hawaiian print gown; I guess that was for summer.
Lots of jean skirts and corset tops; when she tried paying for them, I declined, placing my cards instead, which only got me a glare.
SKYLAR
“You didn't have to.” I commented as we left the store.
“I guess that is my thank you, and you are welcome,” he said, taunting me.
I didn't say a word; he was just very annoying.
We got back to the car, and when I thought he was going to drive me home, he turned right instead of left.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"We aren't done; you still need a makeover. ”,
"By a makeover, you mean”, I was sending him dagger eyes already. I didn't ask for any of this; he was just carrying me along like I didn't have a say in any of this, and clearly I didn't.
We stopped at a mall on the right side; we parked, but he didn't come down.
"What are we waiting for?" I asked when he kept looking out to space.
"Someone," he said.
I leaned into my seat as well; a gray Mercedes pulled up to the parkway. When two people walked up towards the car, Troy came down, and so did I.
They both looked young; the lady had her face made up and was wearing those tight jeans that accentuated her figure, and she was really tall, the same height as Troy, while the guy, I guess he was gay because he had mascara on and was wearing tight jeans, really tight black leather jeans.
“Well, this is Nonna,” he said, referring to the lady and the guy, “and Jay.”
He was giving both of them handshakes, and they were returning them, smiling.
They looked like very nice people, so I waved at them. I didn't know if it was the right thing to do. “I am Skylar.”
“Nice to meet you, Skylar,” they both said in unison, and we laughed.
Troy pulled me so I was standing directly in front of him, his arm hooked around my neck. “Skylar here is my girlfriend, and she needs a makeover.”
At the mention of my girlfriend, they both screamed, holding each other’s hands and jumping in the air. It was hilarious, and I smiled as well.
No wonder Troy called them friends because they really liked him. I could see it in their eyes, and no, don't judge me. I didn't have that degree in psychology; I just think I saw people’s emotions in their eyes.
“You are going with them, you know that.” I heard Troy whisper, his breath hot against my ears, and it took every ounce of self-consciousness not to moan.
“Huh,”
“You are in safe hands,” he murmured, then let go. They pulled me towards them, gently though, before accessing me.
“When did he ask you out?” Nonna asked, but Jay cut in, “Has he been treating you nicely? ”,
I didn't think that question was allowed to sink in before another “ Oh, your hair, they are so soft.”
Jay was speaking now; he had a cut, was bald on the side, and had a kind of pyramid in the center.
“I think a light shade of eye shadow would be good.”
“No, she would look better in darker colors. ”,
“Ohh, cut it, Nonna. ”,
“She doesn't have a tan; she is as fair as spring. ”,
“That is why I suggested something dark; it would give a contrast.
They were arguing now, and I think I turned to Troy for help. He was leaning on the door of his car and giving me a thumbs up on both fingers before saying, “You would be fine.”
He wasn't even helping at all, so I just followed behind like a zombie.
I entered the car with them, but they wouldn't stop arguing, not like they weren't making sense.
If they were really nice people, then I didn't mind their banter.
We had crossed the traffic close to the big hall before Jay spoke up again. Nonna was behind the wheel, and she was a pretty fast driver.
“I have gotten it all sorted on the tab. ”,
“Show me,” Nonna demanded.
“Duh, no can't do, I am not ready to end up with stitches,” Jay declined. “Oh my poor face, that would be a horrible sight,” he shrieked like a kid, and Nonna exchanged glances with me in the mirror, and we both started laughing.
"What's funny?" he asked, confused, but I didn't say anything. She actually snatched the pad, going through it in a jiffy while still maintaining her focus on the road.
“You didn't add a blush to the list, Jay.”
He turned to me, and when he noticed she was actually right and I needed it, he scrubbed it down. “My bad.”
“And yeah, what do you say we do about those glasses? It is giving, who is that nerd?” Jay said, shaking his head in disapproval, but he wasn't being judgemental, so I waited for a verdict on that.
We had stopped in front of a big plaza, and they took me up the stairs into a big store.
The minute my jaw dropped.
“Yeah, I know what you are thinking,” Jay said nonchalantly while Nonna went over the list one last time.
Hopefully she wouldn't find fault and they would be at each other's necks; it really made me laugh when they did so. I guess Troy really had good friends after all.
I received a message from you-know-who.
“Mind getting some snacks afterwards?” he texted, and I replied, “It would be a miracle if I’m out in the next five hours.”
They had both been stretching their necks to read.
Jay spoke first, “I think they are lovebirds by now. ”,
“Of course they are.” They were both hugging each other by the side as they spoke. The minute I raised my eyes, they separated, going to look for nonexistent things. When I got back to my phone, I think they sent each other the “that-was-close” kind of eyes.
Jay had managed to see the chat as he remarked, “That's kind of rude, hon.” He was referring to the chat about being out in the next five hours.
“Sorry’, I replied, a
nd I really meant it and just like it didn't happen, they started the makeover, and I was really curious to know how it would turn out.
