Chapter 51
We were the last people to enter the grand room. As we entered all eyes were on us. The people who were not from our pack looked shocked as we strode through the crowd. We headed to the center of the floor. We were supposed to have the first dance as we were the ones hosting.
Before we were to begin Hayden was going to say a few words. Once in the middle of the room he spoke loudly and clearly. “We are pleased to have the friendship of Gemstone Pack and the Sun Pride Pack. Hopefully those who don’t have mates yet will find them. Now, if you don’t mind, I am going to dance with mine.” He grabbed my hand, and the music began to play.
We danced as and soon Alpha Taylor and Luna Chloe joined followed by others. I connected with Hayden over mind link.
“Do you think Monroe will find his mate?”
“Nope.”
“Why not.”
“He would have already smelt her out if she was here.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, when we first met. I smelt you almost immediately.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, by the time I reached you I already knew. Not about the imprinting but about us being mates.”
“I didn’t”
“Of course, you didn’t. Back then were suppressing Ayla and had no clue what was going on.”
“Ha, I must have looked so stupid.”
“You didn’t in truth it was kind of amusing.”
“I was not.”
“You so were.”
“Speaking of things why can't we mention imprinting to anyone of the guests.”
“Well, like you know it is so rare and mostly considered a fairytale at this point. If they knew it would be a target on our backs.”
“But I thought we could trust them.”
“I would trust Monroe with this, but I still don’t know about Taylor. He seems alright but there is no way to know. If they knew. We would paint a target on our back. They would know if one of use died both of us would.”
“Yea but you don’t think that Taylor would try anything here, do you?”
“I don’t know. But proof of how strong you are probably will deter them at the least for the time being if that is there intention.”
“Well, we do have a fail safe.”
“What is that?”
“The immortality offer from the Goddess.”
“Yeah, I still don’t know if that sounded good. I mean we are supposed to die it is a part of life."
“It doesn’t have to be.”
“And what about are kids, someday. What are they supposed to do if we live forever are we supposed to outlive them.”
“I guess, that does sound horrible.”
“Right also what would we pass on. I mean when I die then our oldest son would become alpha. If we don’t then what would they have.”
“What about if we have a daughter first?”
“What about it?’
“You said our eldest son would be Alpha.”
“And he will be.”
“Are you saying that if we have a daughter first, she can't be alpha.”
“Women don’t have the strength to be Alphas unfortunately.”
“That is such crap.” I storm off. I go and sit outside in the garden and turn off my mind link. I just needed some peace and quiet. I can't believe he really thinks that. I am living proof that some women are stronger than men. If we do have a girl first, I will petition for her to be Alpha. I and Ayla will train with her to make sure she is the best fighter and can defeat anyone.
While I was sitting there, I heard someone approach. I looked up to see Alpha Taylor.
“Oh, Hi Taylor.”
“Hello to you too.”
“What are you doing all alone out here?”
“Just thinking. What about you. Why are you out here?”
“I saw you wander off and wanted a word with you.”
“Oh, so what can I help you with.”
“Well, I noticed the scars.” of course he had. Unless you were blind you would see them.
“I just wanted to say that I find them extremely attractive.” His comment made me uncomfortable. But he continued. “They show that you are a very strong female. In truth it something that I need.”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Let me explain. Chloe was a chosen mate. She tricked me into thinking she was stronger than she actually was. And you see I need someone who is strong to have pups with.”
Is he actually saying what I think he is saying. There is no way he is propositioning me right now for sex? That is absurd. “I still don’t get why you are telling me all this.”
“Well, I think maybe you and I should get together.”
“You are crazy you know that.”
“Don't call me crazy.”
“You’re right your insane. To think I would leave my mate for you. Not only that but no women in their right mind would want you after you cast off a mate even if she is chosen.”
“Now calm down. We were just talking no need to get angry.”
“You haven’t even begun to see me angry.” I started to walk away when he grabbed my arm.
“Let go of me.”
“You need to calm down. I am an Alpha I deserve respect.” I pulled my arm away from him.
“Alphas don’t demand respect. They earn it. And I don’t see an Alpha here anyways all I see is a whiny baby who wants something that isn't his.” I turned to walk away again. Feeling good that I called him out on his crap. Then I feel a sharp pull on my hair. You have got to be kidding me.
“When your mine I will teach you some manners.” as he slapped me across my face. I felt anger build in me. How dare he act like I was his or was going to be his. I was with Hayden dammit. If he wanted to fight, I would show him just how strong I really was.
