Chapter 64
Randal Masterson pulled up to the old barn. He parked his truck, got out, and pulled his gun from underneath the seat. Any moment the woods and fields surrounding him would be crawling with werewolves. He shivered.
His family had a blood debt owned by Kane Wolfe, and Randal itched to use the gun to take care of the man the moment he became a werewolf. The only problem was then he’d have to kill three little boys too or they’d inherit the debt and his family would never be free. No, convincing Kane to release the debt was the best idea. Bianca was the answer. As soon as she was better, he was going to beg her to get her father to free him so he and his wife could live in peace.
When he went into the barn, there was a pile of bloody sheets and blankets by the door. Fear for his friend made his heart race. He readied the gun and looked around.
Bianca lay motionless on an air mattress. Sabrina Johnson sat next to her, holding her hand. Law and Kane, who were starting their transformation, were both pacing.
“How is she?” Randal asked Sabrina as he lowered his weapon and put the safety back on.
Shrugging, Sabrina looked at Janna. “Is she any better?”
Janna’s face appeared slightly elongated and hair sprouted on her cheeks. “No way to tell until her body expels the baby. I don’t think there’s any way to save the poor little thing.”
Janna’s voice was rough and deep with the change. Randal hated werewolves, but Janna was a kind woman. He didn’t fear her as he did the others.
“I’m glad you’re here,” Sabrina said. “I didn’t know you knew about them too.”
“Yeah, being a game warden in this area makes knowing a job requirement. My dad was the game warden before I was, did you know that?”
“I didn’t. I honestly didn’t even know you were a game warden. So, do you like covering things up and stuff?”
Randal shook his head. “Not if I can help it. Most werewolves are good citizens. I was told you could use some company.”
“Thank you. You have no idea how much better I feel right now.”
Randal sat down next to the pretty young woman. “I could guess. This can’t be easy. You’ve mated one of them, haven’t you?”
“How did you know?”
“They’d never trust you with Bianca otherwise.”
“Is Kloe one? Is that why they trust you?”
Randal threw back his head and laughed. “No. Oh, God no, she has no idea about werewolves. It’s a long story, but they trust me.”
Sabrina nodded. “It has to be hard to keep a secret like this from your spouse.”
“You have no idea. It’s not easy, but to protect my wife, I keep the secret. Kane would kill her if she found out.”
Sabrina’s eyes widened.
Law howled, and Randal jumped at the same time Sabrina shrieked.
“Sorry,” Law muttered. “It’s coming. We need to go. We’ll be back in a few minutes as wolves. Don’t shoot us.”
“Okay, but I’m not making Kane any promises,” Sabrina grumbled.
The older alpha frowned at Sabrina but didn’t say anything as the three werewolves left the barn. Sabrina shivered.
“It’ll be okay,” Randal assured the young woman.
“Thanks. I’m glad you’re here. I’d be freaking out right now otherwise.”
“How long have you known?”
“Six months give or take a few weeks. This is really new to me.”
Randal nodded. “I’ve known since I was a teenager, but it doesn’t get easier.”
“That’s not very encouraging.”
“It wasn’t meant to be, just honest.”
They sat in silence for a long moment. When the first large wolf trotted into the barn, Sabrina stiffened.
Randal put his hand on her shoulder. “You aren’t alone.” He felt her exhale.
“Thanks. God, this is wild.”
“You have no clue how wild the world of werewolves can get.”
* * * *
As the moon touched Reylin, she relished the strength of her wolf. Tonight was going to be interesting. She’d accepted her mates and she’d be running with them. Excitement made her heart beat faster. The worst part was she was coming into heat soon. They’d all resisted being together for so long. Three years ago, when she was only nineteen, they’d given her their protection, but she hadn’t been able to go through with making love to them—both. They’d kissed her, and held her, and made her crazy, but she’d managed to pull away. She’d been running from this ever since. It was time to stop running and take both her mates, but not as the wolf. With her luck, she’d get pregnant and have a wolf cub instead of a human baby. Another taboo was all their unusual union needed.
As she stood under the moonlight her whole body ached. She needed more of the night against her skin. Rey began unbuttoning her shirt as she gazed up at the huge orb in the sky. They called this a rare supermoon, and it was beautiful.
Rune’s groan startled a gasp from Reylin, and she turned. Tristian was there too. Both men were already naked, and Rune’s erection told her he wanted her as much as she wanted him. Tristian, ever the sensible one, managed to keep himself controlled. Heat filled her cheeks.
Rune cleared his throat. “Don’t let us stop you. Keep going.”
They were the only ones outside. Everyone else was inside the meeting hall eating the pre-run feast. She was only hungry for her mates, but it was an appetite she needed to refuse.
Rey looked into Rune’s eyes as she unbuttoned each button. She hadn’t worn a bra. Glancing at Tristian, she saw his eyes glowing, and his cock began to rise. She let her shirt slide down her arms to land in the grass. Night dew wet her bare feet. Rey embraced her commune with nature as she took a step closer to the men. She wore button fly cutoff jeans. Biting her lip, she fought to hide how fast her breathing was as she undid the buttons and wiggled out of the tight denim. She hadn’t worn any underwear either.
Tristian growled. Rune panted. And Rey grew wet.
“When I’m a woman again I want you two to take me out in the woods and fuck me until the entire valley hears me scream.”
Rune pushed his dark hair out of his eyes. “This is going to be a long fucking night.”
Tristian rubbed his cock. “You have no idea how much I want to fuck you, woman, but the first time I take you it will be civilized. I am going to make love to my mate in a bed. The second time, you get to pick the place.”
Rune laughed. “I don’t care where we do it, but I think my brain might die from blood loss if we don’t do it soon.”
Tristian punched his twin in the arm, hard enough to make Rey flinch. “Your brain died a long time ago. We can make it through the night. In the morning, we come home, get in the car, and go someplace away from the pack where we can just relax and mate without the pressure. We can worry about what everyone will say when we get back, but my human side wants a bit more of a honeymoon than taking you here where everyone will have an opinion. I need this to be right for you.”
Reylin swallowed. Tears prickled in her eyes, but she didn’t let them fall. Tristian was always so in sync with her emotions. Rune was her savage. She loved them both. Unable to find the words to respond, she simply nodded.
Tristian came over in a few long-legged strides. He wrapped her in his arms and kissed her hard. She closed her eyes and let his love and warmth seep into her soul. When he pulled back, she blinked up at him. He never let go of her as Rune pulled her head to the side and cradled the back of it as he kissed her with just as much passion. Being held by both of them at the same time was a taste of heaven. She relished this moment as she kissed Rune back. When he pulled away, she was glad Tristian still held her because her knees buckled.
“I’ve got you. I’ll always have you,” Tristian whispered in her ear.
She could hear the gravelly roughness of the change in his voice. Both of her men were starting to take on the features of their primal selves. Reylin threw back her head and howled. She felt whole for the first time in too long.
Nik yipped, and she and the twins trotted off in their wolf forms to follow him. She saw him nip at Trax when the boy came too close to Chessa. Reylin rushed up beside her cousin Joy and the teenagers. Considering the danger, she wanted to keep her eyes on Chessa. Rune and Tristian were right beside her, keeping all the other males away from her. She couldn’t wait to let go and just run. Her heart was light; even with the worry about the rogue wolves, nothing could dampen her happiness tonight.
The pack left the farm together, and Reylin let her wolf enjoy the freedom of the run. Her mates were by her side.
