10 - THE ONE WHERE THERA IS SICK 1.2
CHAPTER 10 – THE ONE WHERE THERA IS SICK 1.2
Sorry? Why is he apologizing? Did he think I was making it difficult for him?
"Grandpa Pam, no---"
"I know." He cut me off from what I was about to say.
"Yes?"
"I know everything Thera is going to do to you. The twins have already told me. Rey knows too. That's why she wants to talk to you. We know how Thera will treat you. And because of that, I'm the one apologizing for my pet," explained Grandma Pam what she meant.
You're kidding about the banana twins, they're gossiping about each other? But that's not the reason why I'm miserable.
Besides, did Manang Pam say that she took care of Thera? I thought she was the gardener of the mansion. I've never heard Dahlia call her caretaker Thera knowing that Dahlia is their headmistress. Hmm, is Manang closer to her? I also noticed that she doesn't call Thera young lady. Just Thera.
"Okay, ma'am, Thera and I are okay." I replied, quickly making her frown.
Oh shit!
"It's the young lady's," I corrected. I felt too close, I was talking on a first-name basis.
I remembered my last chat with him. I called him Thera and then he just ignored me. Not even a like emoji.
"How did you guys get along?" asked Grandma Pam, and I don't know why she was asking.
Is there really a need for a follow-up question when we're okay? Isn't it normal to be okay when there's a misunderstanding?
"We're okay. What he did to me, uhmmm...he apologized," I explained.
Just as quickly as his forehead furrowed earlier, his eyes widened just as quickly now and he looked like he couldn't believe what I said.
"Thera, did he apologize to you?" he asked further.
Is it really that big a deal when someone apologizes?
"Yes."
"How?" he asked as a follow-up question.
It's crazy to think that everyone in this mansion is a mess. It's like they all have a hidden agenda and when I say something about Thera, they're shocked and can't believe it. The truth?! Have they forgotten that Thera is also a human being who can do normal human things?
"Uhmm...apologize?" I replied, asking a question because I wasn't sure what Grandma Pam was trying to point out.
When I said that, he quickly grabbed his chin and seemed to be thinking deeply. "In all the time I've been working for the Arentsvelts, I've only heard Thera apologize now. She didn't apologize to anyone. Only to her mother, and the way she apologized to her mother was even more difficult."
This time, I was the one who frowned at Pam's answer. How could she not apologize? And how could she make it difficult? Well, she apologized to AM right away because she slapped him. Maybe Pam just didn't know that Thera was apologizing? Maybe it was just her who didn't?
"If the twins could tell what Thera did in the art room, do you know that she slapped AM?" I said, and she nodded.
"When he slapped AM last time, he immediately apologized. He even went to AM's room," I added.
"That's not what happened, hija. Thera didn't apologize to her sister, AM himself told me. But they're used to it because from then on, no matter how hard Thera did, he never apologized verbally. It's a long story why, he has a deep reason so we understand if he doesn't apologize. So, please forgive me for reacting like this because you said he apologized to you," he stated.
I bowed my head slightly and thought about what Grandma Pam had said. Does that mean AM lied to me? His sister didn't even apologize to him? Is that the whole thing he apologized to me? Including AM, right?
I guess I was right when I heard on Friday that he really said he was sorry, right?
"He only knows how to apologize to his mother. It's even harder to figure out how to apologize to his mother." I raised my head and looked at Grandma Pam as she started to tell me a story.
"Back then, when he would do something wrong to his mother, he would have a unique way of apologizing. That child would come to his mother with food and then order Tamara to give him a bite. That was his way of flattering his mother. When he did that, Tamara knew that Thera was apologizing. Even if he didn't say it verbally, his actions were his way of apologizing," he continued in the story.
I gradually felt my heart beat faster because of Grandma Pam's story.
Feed me
Now everything's clear. I got my answer. Answered what trip she had that day and she thought I'd cook it and give it to her. That was her way of saying sorry...
Maybe at first, he didn't have the courage to apologize, so he ordered me to feed him. Maybe it was also because I was nagging him so much that he couldn't do anything but apologize directly.
But still...
Wait, why do I feel even more confused?!
"Sky?" I was cut off from my thoughts when Grandma Pam called my name. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"Huh? Oh, yes. Sorry. Maybe, maybe I just misheard his apology. Maybe I just thought he was sorry." I lied.
I'm certain that she apologized. It wasn't a big deal before she apologized to me. Well, it was a little. But now, it's a super big deal.
It's a big deal because AM lied to me about her sister apologizing to her. It's a big deal because she apologized to me and not to her sister.
What the fuck?! My head hurts again just thinking about it.
I looked like I was out of my mind again, standing in front of the red door. It was only eight in the morning, but here I was again, bothering my boss, who was also bothering me.
I want to talk to her. I don't know why. I don't even know what I want to talk about.
Something unexplainable has been bothering me that I can't even name. All I know is that it has something to do with her. But I don't know what that is.
