10 - THE ONE WHERE THERA IS SICK 1.0
CHAPTER 10 – THE ONE WHERE THERA IS SICK 1.0
SHE's not here. She hasn't been back to the mansion for about four days. Dahlia told me that Thera left on Saturday, but she doesn't know where she went. It's now Wednesday but there's still no news of her whereabouts.
Even her siblings don't know where she is. They say they're used to their sister leaving without notice and there's no update on where she is. I also followed her on her Tiktok account but she ignored me so I stopped, later she'll think I'm feeling too close.
On Monday night, I planned to start bringing dinner to his room again like the first Sunday I worked here. But no matter how many times I knocked, no one answered and the tray I left was still on the table outside the next day. That's when I realized he wasn't there.
In the past few days that Thera wasn't here, I've always been watching Dahlia and the twins. I've been looking for any hint of worry in them, but there wasn't any. It seemed like they didn't care that they didn't even know where Thera was.
Is that normal? That you wouldn't even worry or wonder where the person is without an update for a few days? In a normal family, they would have already reported it to the police and then the relatives would have posted about the missing person on social media. Here, it's like nothing happened.
Why am I more worried than all of them?!
I got up from my bed. I immediately reached for the phone next to me to check the time. It was only six in the morning on Wednesday. I have class today but it's still 10am. I should be sleeping at this time, but I don't know. I haven't been able to sleep for days because I've been overthinking.
What if something bad happened to that one? There's still a serial killer roaming around. It's so small, it's easy to carry. Later it was thrown into some river...
I shook my head to remove those unwanted thoughts. It's hard to be me. If I'm not curious, I'm an overthinker. My behavior hurts my head.
After I finished washing and brushing my teeth, I left the room to go down to the first floor and have breakfast. Maybe I was just hungry, so I thought about it. As a morning exercise, instead of using the elevator, I took the stairs down.
I was almost to the first floor when I saw two people standing on the grand staircase. They looked like they were talking and what they were talking about was the painting hanging on the wall. It's the Arentsvelt's family portrait that Thera painted.
When I got home from work, that was the first thing that caught my attention. It wasn't the weird painting hanging there anymore. It was the painting of their family. The twins said they were surprised when they saw it too. In other words, Thera was the one who decided to hang it.
I squinted my eyes and saw someone familiar with those two figures standing in front of the painting. An old man and an old woman were the two people talking. I only saw the woman now, but I'm sure it was the man.
"Manong Rey?" I called his name, causing both of their attention to turn to me.
That's him! The taxi driver who is the epitome of everything.
It seemed like Manong Rey noticed me quickly and immediately smiled when he saw me. The old woman next to him was also smiling as I approached them.
"Ms. Ganda. Long time no see!" Manong Rey greeted me as he immediately came over and helped me get down.
"Long time no see, manong Rey." I replied to him with a smile, then turned my attention to the person standing next to me.
"Hello po. Good morning." I politely greeted the old woman who was with Manong Rey.
"Good morning to you too, hija." he greeted back softly. His voice was so gentle. The type who doesn't know how to get angry.
"Wait a minute. Since you just returned to the mansion Pam, I'm guessing this is your first time meeting Ms. Ganda, huh?" asked Manong Rey as the two of us looked back and forth.
Pam? I think I've heard that name before?
"Yes. I just saw him in person today. But I almost know him because of the story of the twins. The story of the two and this Rey is true to me, you really are a beautiful child, Ms. Parker," Pam complimented me.
Wait! I remember her. Pam as in Pamela. She is the family gardener who has been working for them since London. She is the one whose husband passed away. I thought the old lady Pam they were referring to was young, but she looks older than Dahlia. Judging by her appearance, she is in her late 50's or 60 years old.
"Sky, just me. And thank you." I thanked him for calling me beautiful. I had just woken up at that time.
"You too, Dahlia told me about you. I remember, during my interview, she mentioned you," I added politely.
"I just hope the stories Dahlia tells about me are good." he replied with a laugh.
"Oh my, that's too much! Dahlia seems so proud of you." She smiled at what I said. She extended her hand towards me so I took it and shook her hand.
"It's nice to meet you in person, Sky." he said.
"Me too. It's nice to finally meet you. Ms. Pam?" I toyed with what I should call her.
"I'm just Manang Pam and that's what almost everyone who lives here calls me."
I nodded slightly in response. "Manang Pam, nice to meet you again." I smiled at her and she smiled back at me before we let go of each other's hands.
She reminded me of my grandmother in the province. It seems like I'm getting closer to my grandmother here.
