Chapter 85 Lost forever
Chapter 85 Lost forever
The messenger was finally let into the room.
The moment he stepped inside, Evander's attention settled on him, his earlier amusement completely gone from his face.
"What is this urgent message that you had to interrupt my entertainment for?" Evander probed, his annoyance clearly visible in both his expression and his tone.
The messenger bowed respectfully.
"Alpha, we finally had a breakthrough in the search for Tyra," he announced.
The words immediately changed the atmosphere in the room. A sudden silence descended over everyone present.
Relief appeared on some faces, while others remained completely expressionless, waiting to hear exactly what the breakthrough was. Desmond's attention sharpened instantly, and Havilah kept his face blank.
Evander, however, sat upright so quickly that the relaxed posture he had maintained moments earlier disappeared completely. His eyes locked onto the messenger, anticipation written clearly across his features.
"Outside! Every one of you! Away from my floor!" he ordered, his gaze moving toward the doctors and moonless wolves.
Nobody needed to be told twice.
The doctors hurried toward the exit, and the five moonless wolves followed them, scrambling away without bothering to look back or take anything with them. Within moments, the room that had been filled with wigs, dresses, makeup, and ridiculous entertainment was almost completely empty.
Once they were completely gone from his floor, Evander returned his attention to the guard.
"Spill it."
The report was given immediately.
"The guards we sent to search outside the borders received confirmed information that she did indeed leave Blazing Moon. The few people who recognized her confirmed that she boarded a bus to Oriental Island."
"And?" Evander threw the question at him impatiently.
He already knew there was more to the report. The way the guard had introduced the information told him as much, and he had no intention of sitting there while the man took his sweet time getting to the important part.
The guard swallowed before continuing.
"We didn't waste time, Alpha. We organized another group to immediately go search for her at Oriental Island, but something strange happened."
"What happened?" Desmond shot out, his patience disappearing as quickly as Evander's.
"Everyone we sent vanished without a trace, and without even reaching the island."
"What do you mean?"
"What are you talking about?"
"People don't just vanish into thin air, Kefas."
The two questions and one statement landed almost at the same time from Desmond, Evander, and Havilah.
Kefas remained standing before them, looking increasingly uncomfortable under their combined attention.
"I swear it, Alpha. It's hard to believe even for us, but they were attacked on the way."
"By who?" The question left Evander's lips immediately.
Kefas didn't answer with words. Instead, he extended a tablet toward him.
"This footage was captured live by one of them before they finally disappeared," he explained.
Evander took the tablet from him, his eyes narrowing as he turned his attention to the screen.
The video began playing.
At first, there was nothing unusual about it. The footage showed the road leading toward Oriental Island, with the vehicle carrying the guards moving steadily along the route. The image shook slightly from the movement of the vehicle, but whoever had been recording had managed to keep the camera pointed toward the road ahead.
Then two figures appeared. They were both dressed completely in black. Their faces were covered in black as well, leaving nothing visible that could identify them.
The guards inside the vehicle seemed to notice them at almost the same moment.
The two figures stood directly in the path of the moving bus. Forcing the driver to stop.
"What the hell?" Desmond muttered, leaning closer to the tablet.
Evander didn't respond. His eyes remained fixed on the screen.
One of the figures in black raised his hand, and something strange began forming in front of him. The air seemed to distort before a swirling opening appeared, resembling a portal.
Then the second figure raised his hand, and the roof of the vehicle flew away.
The guards barely had time to react.
One moment they were in the bus, the next, they were being pulled away and disappearing into the portal.
The footage shook violently. Someone screamed, then the screen went dark.
Evander remained completely still for several seconds after the video ended, his fingers tightening around the tablet.
"The demon in black," he muttered, finally lifting his eyes from the tablet, the realization settling into his mind. "So he is real."
Desmond stared at him.
"Oh dear lord!" he exclaimed, running a hand over his face. "I actually had doubts about this initially, but now... how do we even fight something like this?" His expression showed genuine bafflement.
Havilah remained silent, his eyes still fixed on the blank screen of the tablet.
"I believe he was the one who convinced and also assisted her to leave Blazing Moon," Evander remarked, shaking his head as the pieces began coming together in his mind. "Well, I guess it's time for me to meet him. I've got some scores to settle."
Havilah shook his head firmly in refusal. "You can't meet him, Alpha Evander."
"Why not?" Evander shot him a frown, clearly unwilling to accept the answer. "You think because he met her first he has a right to keep her? Not going to happen because she is mine, and I'm not going to give up until I get her back."
His voice carried an unmistakable determination. After everything that had happened, the thought of simply sitting back while someone else kept Tyra away from him was something he couldn't accept.
Havilah studied him for a moment before shaking his head again.
"That is not the reason I said you can't meet him," Havilah clarified. "You are in no condition to confront or fight someone like that at the moment. You need to completely heal before you can attempt something like that."
"That is the exact reason why I have to get Tyra back," Evander argued immediately. "I know she's the only one who can help me heal completely."
"She isn't the only one. Shonda can also help you heal," Havilah informed him.
The instant change in Evander's expression was terrifying. His face darkened so rapidly that even Desmond noticed it.
"Mention that name one more time in my presence and I will lose all the respect I have for you," Evander threatened.
Havilah let out a slow sigh. He had expected anger, but there was something different about the way Evander reacted whenever Shonda's name was mentioned now. His hatred for the woman had gone far beyond simple resentment.
Havilah turned his attention toward the guard.
"You can go, Kefas. I'll make sure you get the memo when we come to a decision about what to do next."
Kefas gave a respectful bow before turning around and walking away without another word.
The moment the door closed behind him, Havilah's full attention returned to Evander.
"I understand your anger, Alpha Evander, and I admired the way you handled the situation. But you can't go through with your promise of ending her life."
"I can, and I will." Evander didn't hesitate. There wasn't even the slightest trace of uncertainty in his voice.
Havilah watched him carefully. "She is still useful to us."
Evander's brows flew higher. "In what way? To lodge more poison darts into my chest?"
"She will never try that again. She has agreed to go through the humiliation ritual because she has realized her mistake."
A devilish laugh suddenly roared out of Evander's chest. For several seconds, he laughed as though Havilah had just told him the funniest thing he had heard all day.
But the moment the laughter died down, his expression changed again. His eyes became colder.
"Even if she goes through the humiliation ritual ten times, it still will not change a thing. Her fate is sealed already."
Havilah stared at him for a moment longer before releasing an even longer sigh.
"When I came to you, I made you two promises before you agreed to take over as the Alpha of Blazing Moon. The first one was to find your mother's body and make sure she is buried in the palace, and the second one was to find your missing sister. I have fulfilled the first one, but I am yet to find your sister."
Both Evander's and Desmond's expressions turned confused.
Evander frowned. "What has that got to do with what we are talking about?" he probed.
Havilah held his gaze.
"That person whose name you don't want me to mention has the key to finding your sister. If she dies, your sister will be lost forever." Havilah dropped the bomb.
