Chapter 75 I better find her
Chapter 75 I better find her
"Alpha Evander?" Elizabeth called out, seeing Evander step out of the car that had just parked right in front of the house.
She had just locked the door and was about to head out when he arrived. Her face was filled with sadness as she looked toward the car when he and Desmond stepped out, almost as if she was expecting someone else to emerge from the vehicle behind them. When no one else did, the worry in her eyes became even more obvious.
Evander, on the other hand, wore a slight frown, and it was not only because of the distressed expression on Elizabeth's face. There was something else bothering him. He couldn't feel Tyra's calming presence anywhere around the house, and that immediately made the concern already building inside him grow.
"You look distressed. What's wrong? Where's Tyra?" He put out the question, coming to stand before her.
"Didn't she go to the palace?" Elizabeth's face turned even more distressed, her eyes searching his with an expression that looked almost like pleading.
"I haven't seen her today. I came to check on her because I was worried. Did she say she was going to work?" Evander responded, throwing in a question of his own.
The moment those words left his mouth, Elizabeth's composure finally broke. She broke down into panicked sobs, covering her mouth briefly as she struggled to get the words out.
"I haven't seen Tyra this morning. I woke up and she was nowhere to be found. I have looked for her everywhere and even gone to her friends' houses to check, but no one has seen her. I thought she may have gone to the palace, and was on my way there."
Evander's heart did a terrified somersault, his face darkening at the report. For a moment, he simply stared at Elizabeth, trying to make sense of what she had just said.
"Was there a break in last night?" Desmond probed this time, his expression mirroring Evander's concern.
"No." Elizabeth shook her head immediately. "There was nothing like that. No disturbance at all. Everything was still intact when I woke up except for my daughter. I have tried calling the phone you bought for her, but it has been ringing and no one is picking up." Her voice broke mid explanation, tears welling up in her eyes as fear continued to consume her. "Please Alpha, help me find my daughter."
"Don't worry, she will be found. Nothing will happen to her." Evander assured her, his voice calm, the total opposite of the state of his heart.
He couldn't decide if what he was feeling was anger, fear, or confusion. All three emotions seemed to be fighting for control inside him, leaving him unable to settle on one clear thought. He had spent the morning waiting for Tyra to arrive, wondering why she was late, and now he was standing outside her home being told that she simply disappeared.
Something was wrong, and he could feel it.
After calming Elizabeth down and assuring her that they would find Tyra, they were back in the car, driving toward the palace.
Evander kept staring ahead, his hands resting firmly as he tried to control the growing unease inside him.
"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" Desmond muttered, but Evander heard him nonetheless.
"No bad feelings yet. We probably just missed her while we were coming. She may be in the palace as we speak," Evander responded, completely in denial as he forced his heart to stay calm.
He didn't want to entertain any other possibility. The moment he allowed himself to consider that something could have happened to Tyra, the fear already sitting inside him would become impossible to control.
There had to be a reasonable explanation. She could have arrived before them. She could be somewhere inside the palace. Maybe she had simply gone somewhere without informing anyone.
His response made Desmond turn to him, shooting him a troubled stare. Evander in denial was never good news. Whenever Evander decided to convince himself that everything was fine despite every indication saying otherwise, things usually turn out for the worse should it be confirmed that things had indeed gone bad. For everyone's sake, this better be a massive joke.
"Welcome back, Alpha," the gate guards greeted, opening the gate for him to go through.
"Has Tyra arrived here this morning?" Evander asked their chief.
"No, Alpha. We haven't seen her today," the one the question was thrown at responded without wasting time.
Evander only nodded, the answer hitting his heart hard.
As soon as he stepped out of the car, he headed straight for the council building, with Desmond following closely behind him.
"Good morning, Alpha," the council members chorused when he walked into the hall.
"Anyone of you seen Tyra this morning? Or last night?" His eyes moved from one face to another, watching as each person shook their heads or looked completely oblivious to what he was talking about.
The lack of answers only made the tension inside him grow.
His eyes finally settled on the last person.
"Shonda, where is Tyra?"
Shonda, who had only arrived minutes before he entered, looked completely baffled and annoyed by the question.
"Alpha Evander, I don't understand why you are asking me about Tyra's whereabouts. She doesn't live with me," Shonda responded, her expression making it obvious that she was already irritated by the accusation she thought was coming.
Evander smirked, nodding slowly as he absorbed her response. He didn't argue with her or waste time trying to get an explanation. Instead, he turned to Desmond.
"Gather the entire guards and warriors. We have a missing person to find."
"Tyra is missing?" The question came from Havilah, whose brows were raised in shock.
"Went to bed last night with her mother, nowhere to be found this morning." Evander responded, his voice controlled despite the growing panic beneath it. He then returned his attention to Shonda.
"I better find her, Shonda. If I don't, then you better disappear too."
He walked out after saying that, leaving the entire council staring after him.
Shonda's expression turned perplexed. What exactly was going on? Why was she suddenly being threatened over Tyra's disappearance when she had absolutely nothing to do with it?
"This is not the time for games, Shonda. Chaos is about to descend on our pack. If you have her, bring her out," Havilah spoke the moment Evander left, forcing Shonda to focus her attention on him.
"What do you mean if I have her?" Shonda shot him a frown. "Why will I have her? What sort of accusation is this?"
"I'm not accusing you. I'm only reminding you that a furious Evander is someone we really don't have the capacity to deal with currently," Havilah explained, leaning back against his chair.
His expression remained calm, but there was a seriousness beneath his words that Shonda couldn't ignore.
"And it's not exactly a coincidence for the girl to disappear at the exact same period you've been threatening to end her life."
