Chapter 52

Jasper POV

She was so thin. Her tiny body was so light, and unbelievably cold, as if her blood was frozen under her matte skin, deprived of her natural glow. Even in my worst fights I wasn’t caught off guards as much as she did when she bumped into me. I smelled her, that explained why I turned away from my primary target, and though her frail body didn’t even wrinkle my shirt,

‘She is frozen. What the hell happened to her?’

‘The tests, Alpha. They must be running tests on her. And wolfsbane… She must be drugged, that’s what explain her shift in behavior and her memory wiped-out. Terra worked so hard for me not to go through that… But Bella doesn’t have a wolf at the moment, which can’t take on a part of the torture. She only has the fast healing characteristic of the werewolf. ‘

‘What kind of tests?’ I asked, in a low, menacing voice that was laced with Jarek’s, trying to contain our rage while we were following my little mate that wasn’t remembering me, resisting the urge to brush her hand with mine. Now was not the time to have an outburst nor was it the time to frighten her further with some spontaneous flirting.

‘You really don’t know what Elders are up to? I thought you would answer that question for me…’ Clemencia sighed in our mind, increasing the weight of our worries. ‘I can’t tell you what they are for or about for her. I can only tell you that they wanted me to ‘wake up’ and they tried by many ways. And they don’t believe in soft methods.’

Instead of responding to my first instinct of grabbing her, throwing her in the car and driving back to the pack, I curled my fists into two balls I was ready to get into Kodard’s face. Elders, him in particular, were truly a problem that needed to be addressed, and sooner that we thought. My mind was a trainwreck with all my thoughts crashing into new infos and events that were pilling up. It was never ending and I was getting impatient. We needed to take actions.

The first move I made was to instinctively stop her before she left the room she introduced us in to wait. I wanted her to stay, but I knew she was still afraid, still recoiling at my touch. But her response surprised me, and made me grin. We would still have the time to engage the plan we came up with during our drive here.

“Luna is too thin.” Kylon whined as soon as she closed the door behind her.

“I know. I’m counting on you to fix this once she is back to the pack.”

He nodded firmly. Silence fell on us as they embraced each other in their own bubble, going through the steps of the plan again. Clemencia wasn’t confident we could pull this up, considering she knew more than probably just anyone about Kodard and Kylon didn’t agree but as the Alpha, I had the last word. It made it easy for me,

30 minutes later, Bella came back, with a garnished tray. Food, as little deserts and cookies, and tea were served. We said thank you, but didn’t dare to touch, but we invited her to share with you. She sat without saying a word, agreeing by a simple nod, and eased her self with tea. She immediately relaxed in her chair, almost falling off. I looked at my Beta female who couldn’t help but winced at the view of her Luna, and friend?, getting deeper into the elders’s trap.

1 hour later, Kodard finally turned up, bringing all sorts of excuses and void justifications that I brushed off as if it was nothing. It truly was, in a way, because I could enjoy the company of my mate, even half asleep, for more than I had and probably would considering the next move I had to take.

“I have a deal for you. Let Bella go back to her pack, or the one she now belongs to, and take me in her place.”

“Why would I want you in her place?” He asked nonchalantly, as if I was the most useless of them all.

I couldn’t help a smirk. “You wouldn’t have ask me to come back if I wasn’t of some use. And I think you are as curious as me about what I am… what it is.”

A small grin stretched his dry and wrinkly lips as he leaned forward. He paused, lacing his fingers. And then he got up, walking straight to me, streching out his hand to me.

“It’s a deal.”

That was it? No negotiation? No back and forth?

‘It’s fishy, Jasper. I beg of you, please back out. We can find another way!’

‘No. I need her out and fast. If not, she’ll hit a point of no return. I agree it is strange, but let’s turn this to our advantage.’

I shook his hand and got up. Before escorting me out to his office, he gestured toward my Beta and Beta female to go about there day.

“We will see each other another time, Clemencia. Please, take her with you. She is free to go.”

And then pushed me out of the room into a small and dark corridor.

“Let’s put this down onto papers, shall we. Just for formalities. And then, why not get into it already?”
