#90 Moonlight After the Storm

Moonlight After the Storm
Veyra POV

The world still hummed inside my skin.

Every nerve, every heartbeat, every breath thrummed with the echo of what we’d just shared. The water had gone still again, but it shimmered faintly with silver and gold, traces of Ryanna’s magic mingled with the heat of our bodies, and the pulse of our bond. I floated there for a long moment, my eyes closed, smiling like a woman reborn.

"You feel it too," Lynn whispered in my head, her voice a low rumble threaded with pride. "The pack that isn’t a pack. The mate circle the fates promised."

I did. Gods, I did.

For years I’d carried the weight of being too much, too sharp, too fast, too wild for any court or clan to keep. My hybrid blood made me an outsider everywhere. But now? I wasn’t outside anything. I was inside the very heart of a star.

Ryanna’s laughter drifted through the steam, tired and beautiful. Kaelan answered with some ridiculous joke about stamina. Dryke purred smoke. Lucien’s chuckle slid through the air like silk. Even Rhydor’s gruff voice held something softer than I’d ever heard from him. They were all still buzzing, still drunk on connection.

I pushed wet hair from my face and looked at her.

Ryanna. My Queen. My equal.

She glowed faintly in the dim light, skin kissed by moonfire, eyes heavy but bright. She caught me staring and smiled like she’d been waiting her whole life to find me.

Something inside my chest finally stopped fighting itself.

Lynn huffed softly. "Told you we were meant for more than solitude."

“Yeah,” I murmured aloud. “You were right.”

Ryanna’s brows lifted. “Talking to your wolf?”

“She’s smug,” I admitted.

“She should be.” Ryanna’s grin tilted. “She found us.”

The warmth that spread through me had nothing to do with the hot water. For once, I didn’t deflect, didn’t hide behind sarcasm. I just breathed it in, belonging, simple and overwhelming.

Aedryos stood first, starfire dripping from his hands like liquid light. “Come,” he said quietly. “Rest calls.”

Rhydor groaned but moved. Kaelan splashed him for good measure. Lucien’s shadows collected around us like a cloak, and Darian muttered about needing a spreadsheet to keep track of emotional bonding patterns. I laughed until my stomach hurt.

By the time we left the bath chamber, the steam followed us like a ghost. The castle seemed to sense the shift in us; the air vibrated with contentment. The corridors gleamed brighter, the torches burning clean. StarFury was alive, and pleased.

We walked together, damp and half-dressed, toward the royal suite.

No one spoke for a while. We didn’t need to. The bond pulsed quietly, linking heartbeats, steady and warm. For the first time in my life, the silence didn’t feel lonely.

When the doors swung open, I stopped short. The suite had changed.

It was subtle at first, the scent of pine and frost woven into the air, the faint shimmer of new wards that recognized me. Then I saw it: a new door near the far wall, carved with a wolf and moon entwined in flame.

Ryanna noticed my stare and smiled, tired but sly. “Guess StarFury decided you’re not leaving.”

I crossed the room and pushed the door open. The scent hit me first: cedarwood, leather, and clean snow. The closet was enormous, racks already filled with clothes in shades of black, blue, and crimson, all my size, all my style. Boots lined the floor, gleaming daggers hung on display, and a mirror framed in silver vines caught my stunned reflection.

Kaelan whistled low. “Damn, the castle moves fast.”

Lucien leaned in the doorway, his arms crossed. “It knows what the Queen wants.”

Dryke chuckled, his green eyes gleaming. “And apparently, what she wants is you well-dressed.”

I turned toward Ryanna, still half in disbelief. “You did this?”

She shook her head. “Not me. The castle listens to bond magic. You’re part of us now. It… adjusted.”

Lynn purred in my mind. "Claimed."

My throat tightened unexpectedly. I’d been given gifts before, weapons, titles, territories, but never space. Never home.

“Thank you,” I whispered.

Ryanna stepped close, brushing her fingers along my jaw. “Welcome home, Veyra.”

The others drifted into the main chamber, voices low and warm. Rhydor was already stoking the fireplace; sparks leapt up, casting golden light across marble and silk. Darian scavenged fruit and bread from the side table, muttering something about metabolic recovery. Kaelan sprawled across the bed like he owned it until Dryke shoved him over. Lucien’s shadows pulled the curtains closed, sealing us in a cocoon of quiet.

I lingered in the doorway a moment longer, absorbing the impossible truth of it all.

Home. Pack. Star.

Then Ryanna took my hand, tugging gently. “Come on, hybrid. You look like you’re about to start crying, and that’s my job.”

I laughed, letting her pull me into the room.

The bed was massive, carved obsidian frame, layered furs, enough pillows to bury a kingdom. Kaelan patted the space beside him. “C’mere, wolf girl. We don’t bite.”

Lucien’s smirk curved. “That’s a lie.”

“An invitation,” Dryke corrected.

Rhydor groaned from his corner. “Can’t we sleep before you start another orgy?”

“Sleep now,” Aedryos said gently, lowering himself onto the edge of the mattress. “The stars wait for patience.”

Ryanna climbed in first, curling against the mountain of blankets. I followed, still hesitant until she tugged me down beside her. The warmth hit instantly, literal and emotional. Her mates shifted, adjusting, forming an unspoken circle around us.

Kaelan draped an arm over my hip, half-protective, half-possessive. Rhydor’s steady heat pressed at my back, his breathing already deepening. Lucien’s shadows curled lazily over our feet, cool and comforting. Darian lay across the bottom of the bed, mumbling formulas even as his eyes closed. Dryke sprawled nearest the fire, one wing half-unfurled, his heartbeat loud and steady. Aedryos stayed sitting, watching over us, light flickering across his calm face.

For a long while, no one spoke. The only sounds were the crackle of fire and the slow rhythm of shared breaths.

I stared at the ceiling, tracing the invisible threads that connected us. Each pulse of the bond brushed my mind like a heartbeat against my own. Warmth. Trust. Desire. Love. Not all the same, not all at once, but real. Tangible.

Lynn stretched inside me, content. "This is what we were meant for."

“Yeah,” I whispered. “It really is.”

Ryanna stirred beside me, eyes half-open. “Talking to your wolf again?”

“She never shuts up,” I said softly.

Ryanna smiled, pressing her forehead against mine. “Good. She fits right in.”

Kaelan’s voice drifted through the dark, thick with exhaustion. “We’re keeping her, right? No take-backs?”

Lucien’s dry chuckle followed. “As if any of us could stop her.”

Dryke’s laugh was a low rumble. “She’d burn the castle down before leaving.”

Rhydor grunted in sleepy agreement. “She’s one of us.”

I looked around at them, these chaotic, impossible men, this fierce goddess of a queen, and felt something I hadn’t felt in years. Safe.

Aedryos’s quiet voice threaded through the stillness. “Rest, my stars. The world waits beyond dawn.”

Ryanna’s hand found mine under the blanket, out fingers intertwining. “Stay,” she whispered.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I said.

And for once, I meant it.

The warmth of bodies, the soft hum of magic, the steady rhythm of shared heartbeats, it all blurred into something holy. The last thing I saw before sleep claimed me was the faint silver glow of the bond mark beneath my skin, pulsing in time with hers.

For the first time in my life, the darkness didn’t feel like an enemy.

It felt like home.
