57| THE LAST STRAW
"Kayla texted. She wants to see you."
Eron lifted his head from his office desk and stared up at his fiancee, who held his phone out to him with an indifferent look. He took the device from her, silently peering at the message and in seconds, the door opened and slammed shut, indicating that Frema had left.
Eron rose to his feet then, dialing Kayla's number—the woman had been pestering Eron all week, asking to talk, and by the way Frema had reacted, he was sure she had read the other desperate texts.
"Hey, babe." Kayla drawled as soon as the call went through.
"Straight to the point." Eron bit, right away.
She hissed into the phone but spoke up anyways, "We have to see. This shit isn't stuff for casual phone calls." Eron almost laughed at how she thought he would be seeing her after the stunt she pulled when he went to see his daughter. Drugging him into unconsciousness and stripping him out of his clothes for her selfish pleasures was unforgivable and it made top on the list for the most annoying trick this woman had ever pulled on him.
"If you will not state your trouble over the phone, turn forget it, woman." Eron announced, starting to end the call when she spoke up quickly,
"I'm pregnant!"
There was a loud crash in front of him and his head snapped up immediately, only to see Frema right before his entrance and when he directed his gaze downwards, he saw the pieces of glass from his glass mug which previously carried coffee.
"Did you hear me? What was that noise? Eron, I'm carrying our second baby." She sounded breathless, grateful—like it was a good thing, and Eron wanted to combust from the influx of negative emotions he felt. He shook his head like she could see him.
"You are not carrying my baby, Kayla, if at all you're pregnant. I suggest you look for someone else to pin the product of your spread thighs on." Eron spoke calmly, letting the words sink. Kayla burst out crying while the couple held each other's eyes.
"You can't deny this, Eron, please. You... You came inside me that night... I begged you to pull out because of your wife to be, but just like the other nights, you ignored me and came inside, still. I'm pregnant and it's not my fault." She cried. It was when Frema tasted the familiar salty liquid on her lips that she realized she was crying as well. Eron did not know why he still left the call on speaker or why he still hadn't hung up, but something told him that if he attempted either of those things, he'd be in for a bigger problem with Fremantle. However, after listening to Kayla just breathe for five more seconds, he ended the call.
"Frema." He started. She turned on her heel and started escaping him when she clumsily stepped on a piece of glass. She yelped and fell against the door, breathing heavily. Eron was by her side in a flash, successfully avoiding the pieces of glass while he walked.
"Fuck you, leave me alone." Her face was wet with tears as she fought him. Eron held her feet still, despite her beatings and took the glass out of her feet in one pull. She screamed so loud, Eron thought it was only a waste that she wasn't shouting his name. He shouted out a name of one of his servants and they ran into the room, going back to get the tools needed to clean the mess. He took her back to his office desk and sat her on it, placing his forehead against hers until she pushed him away and he only stood before her now. The servant quickly packed up the broken pieces of glass and hurried out of Eron's office.
"I do not know what she's talking about. I never had sex with Kayla." Eron assured her but Frema was already convinced. Kayla did not seem like someone to fake a pregnancy and Eron had not denied being at her place or having sex with her, so...
"You did not deny having sex with her." She accused and watched him. Eron did not know how to tell her that he was drugged without sounding weak. Even when he was drugged, he was usually not completely out of it to not remember having sex. Kayla had to be lying and now he wanted to see her face to face—he wanted her to lie to his face, if she was evil enough to.
"I did not." He maintained.
"Cut the bull, Eron. Were you in her room, first off?" Frema asked, her voice riddled with sorrow. He waited a while and then nodded quietly. She pushed him further away and got off his desk.
"Does she share the same room with Titi?" Frema asked, very calmly this time. Eron did not answer, so she came up to him until there was no space between them. "I asked you a question." She muttered to his face. He wanted to tell her the harmless truth—he had just finished talking to Titi when she had offered him a glass of his favourite Johnny Walker's black label in her room, just when he turned to leave. He had accepted after a lot of persuasion but in the end, she drugged him. That was the truth, but knowing Fremantle, she'd rather scrape off her eyebrows than believe a word he said at the moment.
"She does not share a room with her daughter." Eron said finally, his expression as emotionless as ever. Frema felt the tears begin to multiply but she did not stop talking,
"Wow. So do you mind explaining what exactly you were doing there, regardless?"
"We were only talking." Eron offered, moving closer to her but she backed up, raising a hand to stop him from moving closer.
"Talking? With your junk in her hole?" Frema snapped and Eron ran a hand through his dark curls, exasperated.
"Kayla lied. We never had sex." He said again. "If we had sex, I would know, wouldn't I? I never touched that woman inappropriately, all that ended a long time ago. Besides, she has no evidence."
Frema was about to speak again when Eron's phone chimed again. Two text messages. Frema grabbed his phone, unlocked it and opened the text messages—both from Kayla. They contained media; pictures. Frema looked up at Eron who had his jaw clenched and then she returned her gaze back to his phone, allowing the hovering hand above his screen to tap on the media. The content revealed itself immediately and it was a miracle that Fremantle did not drop the phone. Eron grabbed the phone off her hand and stared at the pictures himself, allowing his face to grow paler than hers was, currently. The pictures were of Kayla and himself, obviously. In those pictures, he was stark naked and so was she. He held her neck in one slide and they looked like they were kissing passionately. Everything in there was bad. He had a disaster in his hands.
"I didn't..." He trailed off, watching the pictures all over again, trying to control how much his heart squeezed with guilt in his chest as he watched her cry.
"She's carrying your baby, Eron. You couldn't even wait for us to get everything settled before you went ahead and messed everything up." Frema muttered in-between sniffs. Eron swallowed, not knowing the first thing to say in response. Frema pushed him aside then, and began to run away.
Eron wanted to go after her, but what would he say? For all he knew, that child could be his. He had let Kayla get pregnant yet again, for him. Once more, she was going to give him a child which he did not want at the moment and he was going to learn how to love the innocent human—all because of one silly mistake. Eron growled in anger and punched the wall beside him four consecutive times before sitting down on the chair opposite his official chair..
The door swung open again and Frema's eyes first went to his bloodied right fist, but she pulled her eyes away as soon as it made contact with the hand. Her mind was made up. When she reached his table, she slammed his ring on the wooden furniture and looked up at him squarely,
"Whatever this is, is now completely over and done with. We are done for good, Eron. They were right, I do not deserve a man like you. It's only too bad I waited for something as tragic as this to happen before I finally accepted the truth. I hope you find someone as evil as you are, someday, Eron and I hope she hurts you just as much as you've hurt me." She spat at him and when she was almost out of the door, he finally shook off the shock and responded,
"We do not belong apart, Fremantle. One day you'll realize it."
