Chapter 46

Eva stood still and looked at the beautiful man in front of her. Her legs were shaking and she couldn't find the words.

"Why did you leave me Eva, why didn't you come home to your triplets? They need you as much as I do, why the hell did you take me away from the twins?" Eva wrinkled her forehead.

"Excuse me, you are mistaken sir, my name is not Eva, my name is Elena and I don't know you."

Demetrio looked at her in disbelief.

"What do you mean I'm wrong?" he tried to approach the children, but Eva stopped him.

"Do not even think of approaching my children," she exclaimed nervously.

"Eva, my love, they are my children... and you, my wife, please, why are you saying these crazy things?" the Italian's voice cracked. A lump in his throat wouldn't let him breathe and tears were about to come out.

"I told you I don't know him," she whispered, not very sure.

She got up from the seat, shaking at that moment. Although she felt no fear, he had called her by a different name than she knew.

Demetrius watched her carefully. She was his Eve, the same vanilla smell, the same eyes and the same red cheeks when she was nervous, why didn't he remember?

He tried to grab her arm and pull her to him, but the bodyguard immediately came closer. Demetrio had to turn away so the man wouldn't see his face, surely he was loyal to Santino.

Eva watched him walk away. She couldn't utter a word at that moment.

"Niña, who is this gentleman?" asked Rosa curiously.

Eva felt the hairs on her body stand up, she stroked her neck and answered:

"I don't know, Rosa, but his eyes seemed familiar to me, if it wasn't for the fact that my name was Eva, I would swear that I knew him from somewhere else".

...

"He doesn't know me, damn it! Eva doesn't know me! He wouldn't let me near the kids and he said that wasn't his name." Demetrio clenched the glass of whiskey in his hands. He shook with anger.

"What if he lost his memory?" Antonio interjected questioningly.

"I have to find out what happened, someone has to know," said Mássimo.

Over the next few days, Laureti watched Eva from the terrace of the house, watching her bathe in the garden pool and taking care of her children. She seemed fine, but something in her eyes made him realize that something was wrong.

...

She woke up frightened, ever since she had seen that man in the park she had dreamed of him every night, and those blue eyes already had a face, and it was the face of that handsome man that made her shudder.

As she changed her children every morning and then put them to sleep in their cribs. She felt the need to talk to Sam, she wanted to work and not stay cooped up.

She went to his room when he asked her to. He immediately approached her to kiss her, but she pushed him away, which immediately infuriated him.

"There will come a time when you will have to give birth as a woman, I'm not going to wait for you to get your damn memory back! The doctor told you that you might never make it!" he shouted angrily.

Eva felt the urge to cry.

But she didn't say anything to him and changed the subject. I didn't feel able to be with him, and I still didn't understand the reason. He was supposed to be her husband, but contrary to that, I couldn't stand his closeness.

"Why can't I go to work with you? Rosa can take care of the kids, I feel like a prisoner here," she said with disdain, looking at Santino as he straightened his tie to leave.

"I've told you many times, no, Evangelina!" shouted San Roman, annoyed.

"Evangelina? Who is Evangelina?" Eva looked at him doubtfully.

"She's my secretary, and since you're so demanding, I called you anyway." Eva looked at him with a furrowed brow. "You'll be ready early for the masquerade party at the company, please, the driver will take you there." Eva bit her lip as she nodded her head.

She went downstairs to see when Sam left. Sometimes she wished he wasn't in her life, there were days when he treated her so badly that she managed to be afraid of his presence.

Like every day it was in the garden. It was the only way to feel comfortable in that big cold house.

She undressed and immersed herself in the pool for a long swim until Rosa's voice made her get out.

As she dried her body, she felt the persistent gaze around her again. She turned around and suddenly her eyes fell on a man who was watching her through the window of the house across the street.

Eva felt her legs start to shake.

"Rosa, someone is watching me from the house across the street!" she exclaimed nervously.

"Where, really?" the lady-in-waiting asked in astonishment. "You'll have to tell Mr. Sam."

"No, don't tell him, or he'll forbid me to come into the garden, come on, we'd better go through to the kitchen, I'll get ready for the damned party." They went in together.

...

"He saw me," said Demetrio with a mischievous smile on his lips.

"How so?" asked Guillermo.

"She looked up and saw me, she got nervous and went into the house, but she knows we see her," he exclaimed nervously.

"I have to find a way to tell her that her name is not Elena, that it is Eva... I have to find a way to show her this photo," he said.

Demetrio took the photo with his children in France, in Paris. The five of them were together. He had to give his mother back to his children and get her and the twins back. But how?

"I have the solution for you to get close to her," Massimo said excitedly.

"How?" asked the Italian.

"It turns out that Santino is now called Sam of the Roses, and Eva is called Elena of the Roses. He has a partnership, with one of my family's companies, and today there is a masquerade party held for these dates, it would be a good time for you to approach your wife and show her the photo," explained Mássimo.

"That bastard, he changed her name and went into business with my family!"

"That's not all, son, Eva doesn't remember you because she lost her memory. I checked and Santino won't let her out of there, so he only takes her out for parties and to have as a trophy, but otherwise Eva is a prisoner just like the children. I sent for the detective and for him to bring the evidence that incriminates him. Santino doesn't have much free time left. So, if you are going to approach Eva, please, Demetrio, don't go to alert this criminal, because it might be an attempt against her or your children. Demetrio swallowed hard.

"I'll be careful, but I won't talk to her without being interrupted."
