Fifty-four

Jeffery frowned at the news which Vivi had just told him about his brother. He could not believe that Zach could do that, he would not do that unless he remembers. He should have found a way to make sure that Zach had never woken up from that coma and then he would have fired Maisie the moment he saw her. And now he would have to do something drastic because warnings, threats, and attempted murders are no longer enough. Jeffery was not as dumb as to believe that he could get away with killing his brother and his fiancée but since he was already going down, he has no problem with dragging those two with him.

Jeffery turned and look at Vivi, if he were less jaded, he would have smiled at her loyalty, he knew with all certainty that if it has not been him but his brother in this calamity, Vivi would have cut her losses a while ago, but she stayed with him and with the way she is giving him information which is useful to him like his brother words and the order he would soon get from the court, she really did like him.

Jeffery would have never doubt Vivi if not for the fact that she dumped Zach while he was in a coma. “I am going to set you free,” Jeffery replied as Vivi looked at him weirdly.

Jeffery knew that what he was doing was dumb but there was no way he would drag Vivi down with him, she earned his compassion by falling for him, and besides, why would he drag her down when she still has the ability to cause trouble for Zach and Maisie if they survive what he was about to do to them.

“Set me free how?” Vivi asked as she sat up, she was not liking the look Jeffery had in his eyes, she knew that she had nothing to fear from Jeffery he was always going to protect her, and she will never see harm from his hand.

Jeffery sat down beside her then kissed her and when Vivi opened her eyes at the end of the kiss, Jeffery had already removed his ring from her finger. “Don’t do this,” Vivi started but Jeffery shook his head.

“It is better this way, I will release a statement saying that we have broken up or you can do it with whatever story you want,” Jeffery said unable to look at Vivi again who had tears in her eyes.

“Don’t do this...” Vivi started.

“You have no future with me, just because I am being dragged down doesn’t mean that you should be dragged down too.”

“I don’t care about that, you know that I don’t,” Vivi said as Jeffery smiles.

“I know you don’t and that is why I am letting you.”

“This isn’t fair I should have my happy ever after not that annoying brat.”

“Who said anything about her having her happily ever after?” Jeffery said as Vivi looked at Jeffery.

“You have something planned for them, don’t you?”

“I don’t yet but they won't get to have their way when I am still in the position to do anything.”

“I don’t want to leave you,” Vivi said

“You are going to have to,” Jeffery tells her as he gave her a peck.

Now that he has removed Vivi from his side to prevent her from hurting, he knew that Malcolm (Zach's father) will protect his mother, so nothing was holding him back to make sure that Zach and his fiancée get what was coming to them. Time he did away with the good boy persona.

Maisie was sick of waiting for the other shoe to drop, she didn’t even know what she will call the other shoe at this moment. Either for the court day to finally arrive so that they can put Jeffery behind bars or for Jeffery to react, she knew that he was going to react because of the type of person he seems, what convinced her that Jeffery will pull out all the stops was when she read that Vivi and Jeffery had broken up, there were no two people better suited for each other than Jeffery and Vivi and they knew it, but for them to break it means that Jeffery plans to do something drastic, something he knew that he was going to get caught for. And he was going to pretend like he was not going to do anything.

Maisie took a deep breath and fought the urge to call Zach, after all, she had succeeded in keeping Zach indoors for the past one week and although Zach was outside with Cassidy who is a spy, Maisie still felt like Zach was in danger and always managed to worry herself too when Zach was not with her.

Just as she was about to give in to her urge and call Zach, she received a text from her best friend. Maisie opened the text only to have her heart stop. Betty would have never played a cruel joke like that and she didn’t suspect for one second that Jeffery was playing with her, he was with Betty's phone and that proved enough.

As if that was not enough, she received a couple of photos at the same time and with shaking hands, she opened the pictures to discover that Jeffery meant his message. If she did not show up at the apartment which was currently being developed, Betty would be hurt for something she had no concern with.

Maisie collected Zach car keys and reached for her coat, she knew that she was dumb for not telling Zach and doing exactly what Jeffery told her to do but she did not have a choice she refused to let her friend suffer for the fact that her only crime was to be the friend of a girl who was dating a millionaire who also happened to have a psychotic brother.

She just hopes that Jeffery will be vengeful and prideful enough to want to gloat at Zach that he had ruin Zach life, then he would put Zach in the position that he is about to put her and when Zach arrives, she hoped that with the two of them working together that they will be enough to take Jeffery down.
