Forty-two

“Hey, Maisie you are not ready yet.” Betty whined for the fifth time since five minutes ago when she entered the Maisie office.

Maisie slams the file closed. “With you whining in my ears I know that I won't be able to concentrate, let's just go.”

“It isn't my fault. You close by five. I came here exactly five.”

“Of course, and I am sure I would be able to finish writing the report before five-thirty thereby ending that case.”

“Do you get paid for the extra time?” Betty asked.

“No.”

“Then there is no reason you should be here when it is past five. Now let's go.” Betty said as Maisie sighed. She knew better than to try to argue with Betty.

On their way out of the elevator, they saw Vivi. “oh hello.” Vivi called out with a smile.

“Not this bitch.” Betty said. “What are you doing here?”

“None of your business but if you must know I am meeting Zach.” Vivi gloated with a smile as Maisie laughs.

“I should have listened to him. You are nothing but a faker, liar, and ruthless bitch. I don't know what your aim is, but your story is wrong.” Maisie said with a smile.

Vivi's smile didn't reduce, the only visible way she showed anger at Maisie as her eyes slightly narrowing as she said. “Oh really?”

“Yes really. Zach is not coming back to the office. I don't know where Zach falls into your master plan, but he won't be for long.”

“I have no idea what you mean or what you are saying.” Vivi said with a raised eyebrow.

“Of course, you don't. What I am saying is that I am going to meet up with Zach and tell him that I want to be his again.”

“Even if you have to share him with me.” Vivi asks.

“You see, that is the lie and I know it. You are just lying that you are going to see Zach meaning that I cannot trust a word from your mouth again. You are nothing but a lying...”

“Hold it right there with the insults.” Vivi firmly said.

“Or what are you going to do, continue lying and opening your legs to guys who don't want you in their life and you are only good enough for a night.” Betty said in her voice being the normal pitch and some people walking by heard what she said. Vivi looked around and saw people giving her side looks.

“Shut up. You don't know anything.” Vivi tells Betty with her face turning red in embarrassment.

“You are right. I certainly don't know the things you do.” Betty said but what she meant was clear in the statement.

Vivi gasped. “This doesn't concern you.”

“You made my bestie unhappy and she cried because of you so that means that making you pay is my business.” Betty said as she slowly advanced towards Maisie. “You know what I hate? When people hurt Maisie and think they can get away with it. Like hello, she is my best friend in the world I will make you regret your life if you make her sad.”

“What are you doing.” Vivi stutter.

“I am making you regret your decision to try and wedge a walk between Maisie and her boyfriend.” Betty said as she pushes Vivi to the wall.

“Why you.” Vivi said as she raised her hand to hit Betty and Betty caught the hand in her grasp as she smirks at Vivi.

“Let go.” Vivi said as Betty tightened her grip. “I will sue you for this.”

Betty tightened her grip until Vivi's legs collapsed under her and she was kneeling in front of Betty. “This is where you belong, on your knees, before guys when cheating on your fiancée and before girls apologizing to them for making their boyfriends stray. Now I want you to look at Maisie and say sorry for trying to take her boyfriend.”

“No.” Vivi gritted out then gave a sharp cry of pain when Betty tightened her grip.

“Now, say you are sorry.” Betty ordered.

“I am sorry Maisie.” Vivi gasp as tears form in her eyes.

“For what exactly.” Betty asked.

“For trying to take your boyfriend from you.” Vivi said with a cry of relief when Betty released her hand.

“Good.” Betty said with a smile. “Oh, if you want to sue, go ahead. I will defend myself; the issue wouldn't see a courthouse and you will make a laughingstock all over this city.”

“I hate you.” Vivi spat out.

“Tell me something I don't know.” Betty said as she met Maisie and said. “Good enough.”

“I am lucky to have you as a best friend.” Maisie said as Betty smiled then both walked away leaving Vivi who was seething.

People will see her as a social climber now, the news of her trying to get Zachary back will make it to her social circle. She will be talked about, laughed about all because of Maisie Williams. She was going to deal with that girl.
