CHAPTER 27

"Damian, I know about your exes." He states calmly.

Bile rises in my throat. I know full well about the way I behaved with my exes. If he knows, it's certain that he's leaving me. There's no denying that anymore. So, here is it, hun. It ends here. I just used them to satisfy my desires and when I was bored with them, which generally happened within two weeks, I'd leave them with a cheque.

"Mark is my cousin." He continues. I give him a stone cold expression, not because I'm not interested in this coversation, but because I know that the inevitable is here.

"Uh. So you're leaving me?" I ask him, trying to put up a strong front.

"Lose that mask of indifference, Godfrey." He snaps at me. I look at him with uncertainty flickering in my eyes.

"Mark said that you didn’t catch feelings. Never ever." He continues.

"Those were sexual relationships. Not emotional ones. I never thought I could experience emotions... until now." I confess. Should I say it? Nah.

Lucas gives me a sharp look, indicating me to continue, but I can't really form a coherent sentence.

"I was uhm, probably, you know…" I mumble. Lucas is still looking in my eyes for an answer. But my face gives nothing away except sheer nervousness.

"I was waiting for you." I blurt out. There, there, there — there, I said it.

He shifts closer to me, and places a chaste kiss on my lips.

"That's very romantic." He says, beaming. I like that face of his. Smiling. I want to keep him so, always. What the fuck are you talking about, Godfrey? Learn to walk, before you run! You'll scare the guy away. My subconscious reminds me.

"You know, even I had 5 exes, but I didn’t have such unrestrained emotions for anyone. Only you." He clasps his hand in mine. Oh, I feel good.

"I love you, Godfrey. Do you?" He speaks up. And I freeze. Those words, terrify me. Lucas notices my discomfort and clasps my hand harder.

When I had almost lost him today, I understood for good that, I love him indeed.

"I do." I finally reply and he grins at me. Suddenly, there's a knock on the door.

"Come in." I respond.

Luke comes in with a bowl wrapped in foil and bottled water. Oh, that's the soup I asked him to bring. The man never fails me.

But, he looks grumpy. I know what he's thinking.

"Luke, it wasn't your fault. The accident." I address him, as he finally nods after I take the soup and water from him.

I open the foil package, as I offer him the food. Within some minutes, he's finished it. Good boy. I hate it when people waste food.

I take the empty packet and put it down on the table beside his bed.

I dig my teeth in my wrist, as blood oozes out of the fresh wound.

"Drink it, Lucas. It will heal you." He is staring at me, shocked.

"Vampire blood is a healer, drink it. I won't turn you into a vampire." I clarify and he finally seems relieved, as he drinks the blood.

Soon enough, all his wounds are healed, and he looks like, nothing has ever happened to him. Good.

The doctor comes in shortly after, to check on him and he has that shocked reaction plastered on his face.

"Dr. Shaw, look at me." I speak.

He frantically gets up and looks me in the eye. Now, I'll compell him.

"Lucas is stable. Get him the discharge papers in 5 minutes. We're leaving." I finish my sentence.

"Right away, Mr. Godfrey." He answers and I flash a grateful smile at him. I'm not leaving Lucas in this hospital. Especially not when my lunatic brother is out there somewhere.

After about 10 minutes, we're leaving the hospital and Luke is already outside with my black mercedes.

We both hop in the car, as Luke drives us back to my place. As we get out of the car, Luke reminds me that the whole security team and Susan are still on break, as I ordered them to be.

"Not a word about this to the security, Luke." I remind him.

"Yes, sir." He obediently replies.

"Good. Take the day off, Luke. You've done enough." I say, as he smiles at me and walks away.

Lucas is preferring to lie by my side on the bed with his clothes on, due to his incoming Q&A session. But, I take my shirt off as I climb on the bed with only my jeans on and he lies down beside me.

"Question time!" He declares giggling.

"Okay, okay. Ask away." I smile.

"Your actual age?" He asks.

"258 roughly." I reply.

"Damn. Isn't dating that old a man, illegal?" He grins.

"You prefer doing illegal things." I mock.

"Your family?" He continues.

"My mom and dad are dead, obviously. And, there's my lunatic brother, Ryder who went after you because he hates me." I let out a deep breath.

"I'm sorry. Who turned you into a vampire?"

"His name was Adrian. He is a complete bastard. He didn’t even ask me if I wanted to be a vampire. I'll spare you the grisly details." I reply with a grave tone.

"How many exes do you have?" He asks.

"Okay. For a person who's been sleeping with people for almost 230 years, it's tough for him to make any estimation." I smirk at him.

"Fine, weaknesses of a vampire?" He proceeds.

"Vervain — above 20 mL is fatal, so a wooden stake through the heart. And sunlight. But, I have a daylight ring, made by a witch called Agnes, centuries ago." I answer.

He nods, as he says, "Whatever happens, Damian, you know that I love YOU right? "

That's when it hits me. Something is wrong and I don't know what is. My gut is saying that something is horribly wrong. It's been almost 250 years, that I've been trusting my instincts, and it has never led me astray. This weird feeling....

"Yeah. I know, Carter. I know." I force a smile. And that's when I feel it, a stabbing sensation on my back. Wait, Lucas just stabbed me with a syringe. Abruptly, I feel like I can't move. I feel weak.

Bile rises in my throat, as I blanch. My scalp prickles with anticipation, as I try to identify the liquid which he just injected in my system.

Seconds after, I realise it. Fuck, it's vervain.
