Chapter 193

Chapter 193

Kane took on ten enemies by himself and didn't panic at all. He moved in close, dodging and weaving, throwing heavy punches again and again. He blew up and killed three or four Enhanced Humans in a row. But the enemies kept coming without getting tired. The rest of them, seven or eight, stuck to him tight and gave him no chance to catch his breath.

At the same time, casualties were getting worse everywhere on the battlefield. Countless elite fighters dropped under the Enhanced Humans' raw power. Kane's eyes went cold. If this close fighting drags on, it'll just burn through our strength for nothing.

"Everyone pull back right now! Get clear of the battlefield!"

At Kane's order, he broke through the circle and pulled back fast. The thousands of elite fighters who had been locked in the fight fell back like a wave, quickly pulling away and opening up distance. Seeing Kane's side retreat in a rush, Tyler thought they'd completely lost their nerve. He threw his head back and laughed like crazy, acting all cocky.

"The Mercenary King ain't much after all! My Enhanced Humans ran you off? Mercenary King, today's the day you die!"

Right when Tyler was gloating, Kane reached a safe spot and his eyes flashed with a cold light. He looked up at the sky and shouted, "Attack helicopters, lock on, full firepower! Fire the shells!"

In the next second, dozens of attack helicopters overhead swung their guns and opened fire. High-explosive shells streaked out with long trails of flame and slammed into the Enhanced Human group below. Tyler's grin froze on his face. His expression changed fast, eyes full of fear. "No! Fall back!"

But it was too late. Boom after boom! Massive explosions shook the ground. Fire shot up, rocks flew everywhere. The half-finished Enhanced Humans couldn't stand up to the shells at all. Their big bodies got torn apart and thrown around. They dropped in piles, bodies everywhere, screams cutting off fast.

When the shelling eased off, thick smoke covered the whole town. The ground was wrecked, full of black ruins and shell craters. After the bombing, the scene was brutal. Half-finished Enhanced Humans lay in pools of blood, broken arms and legs scattered everywhere, flesh all mashed up. But the creepy part was how tough these monsters were. Some had their legs blown off but their upper bodies kept crawling on the ground. Some had holes through their chests but still waved their arms around. A few even had their heads blown clean off, the heads rolling away while the headless bodies kept swinging their arms like they were feeling around for their missing heads. It was dead quiet and weird.

Kane stared at the horrifying sight, cold anger in his eyes. He said in a low voice, "No wonder this is a banned experiment. If real, fully grown Enhanced Humans came out in big numbers, the whole world would go up in flames." Thorin looked serious and nodded. "These half-finished ones are already this hard to kill and won't stay down. If the complete versions show up, it'll be a disaster."

Kane's eyes stayed cold. "People are greedy by nature. Once normal folks get this kind of world-destroying power, none of them will be happy with what they have. Someone will use it to kill, burn, and steal whatever they want. The whole world order would collapse."

Over by some broken walls, Tyler was half-buried in rubble, one leg blown clean off, covered in blood and barely breathing. He used his last bit of strength to slap the broken ground hard, full of hate. "Damn it, damn it all! If my Enhanced Humans had finished growing, your regular guns and bombs wouldn't even scratch them! You never would've beaten me!"

Kane walked up to Tyler. He stood tall and looked down at the dying man. "Cut the crap. I'll ask you one last time. Where is Howard hiding?"

Tyler gave a twisted, mocking smile, looking sick with pride. "You want Howard? I'll tell you. He's deep in the number one lab underground. If you've got the guts, go find him yourself!"

"Take him."

Kane spoke flatly. Thorin stepped up, threw the one-legged, badly wounded Tyler over his shoulder, and moved quick and clean. Even when Tyler's wounds tore open and he screamed in pain, Thorin didn't ease up at all.

Following Tyler's directions, they crossed the ruined town, went through a big crack in the ground, walked down stairs, and reached the hidden number one underground lab. The second they stepped inside, a strong mix of blood, disinfectant, and rot hit them in the face, sharp and sickening. What they saw made Kane and the others' eyes go wide, and rage exploded in their chests.

The lab looked like hell on earth. On the operating tables lay a woman's body, cut open from chest to stomach, dead in a horrible way. She'd clearly been used alive for human experiments. Along both sides of the hallway, rows of iron cages were lined up, each one holding living people. Old folks, young men, even little kids. Their eyes were empty, faces pale, bodies covered in needle marks and wounds. They were being kept like lab rats, waiting for whatever experiments came next. It was inhuman and disgusting.

"Son of a bitch!" Thorin gritted his teeth, fists clenched tight, veins popping. "You really did this to so many living people?" Bayonet's eyes were ice cold. "Tyler, even being cut to pieces wouldn't pay for what you've done."

Tyler, still slung over Thorin's shoulder, looked totally unbothered. He even acted proud. He lifted his head and said arrogantly, "You don't get it. Scientific progress always needs sacrifices! I'm not doing evil. I'm paving the way for science and giving everything for human evolution and the future! These people dying is an honor!"

"Shut up!" Thorin couldn't take it anymore. He swung and punched Tyler hard in the face. Bang! Tyler's mouth filled with blood, several teeth knocked out, and he let out a pained grunt.

They shoved down their rage and kept moving deeper down the hallway. It was dark and deep, lights flickering on the sides, cold wind blowing through, creepy and cold. At the end of the hallway, a huge, heavy alloy metal door blocked the way. The surface was covered in fine patterns, thick and solid, locked tight, giving off a bad feeling of silence.

"I'll do it." Thorin stepped forward, put both hands on the metal door, and pushed hard. But the heavy door didn't move an inch. It was locked solid. "It's an electronic lock with mechanical bolts. No key, it won't open." Thorin frowned and looked back.

Bayonet turned to the captured Tyler and said coldly, "Hand over the key." Tyler had blood on his mouth, his eyes looked strange, and he suddenly grinned in a nasty way. "You sure you want to open this door? Let me warn you, once you're inside, don't regret it."
