Chapter 189
Chapter 189
Frank suddenly froze, anger tightening in his chest. All the pent-up grievances and humiliation from the past few days burst out at once.
He used to be a rich man who ran the Spencer family for decades. People had always treated him with respect. When had anyone ever insulted him like this?
Frank straightened his hunched back, his face flushing red. "Are you blind? How dare you stop me? I'm a guest here. I booked the top-floor presidential suite!"
The two security guards froze for a second, then burst out laughing, their eyes full of mockery.
One tall guard crossed his arms and looked down at Frank with a sneer. "That's hilarious. A beggar in rags like you wants the presidential suite?"
"Do you know how much that suite costs per night at Sapphire Sky Hotel? Most people can't afford it even after working their whole lives. Take a look at yourself first!"
The other guard's tone was even harsher. "I think you're just crazy from being broke. You want to mooch off the hotel that bad?"
"Get lost. Stop embarrassing yourself here!"
Frank shook with rage, his old body trembling. He was furious and ashamed. "I'm not lying! Someone arranged the room for me. I have the room number! Let me through right now. You'll regret it if you delay me!"
"Still threatening us?"
The tall guard's face darkened. "A homeless beggar dares to talk big and scare us? I'd like to see who could possibly back you up."
"Let me tell you, forget the presidential suite. You won't even get into the basement today. Get out!"
Frank gripped his wooden stick tightly, his knuckles turning white. He was furious and anxious, his lips purple from the cold as they trembled. "I really have a room number! I'll tell you, go check it!"
He quickly gave them the number Kane had told him.
One guard looked doubtful. He pulled out his work tablet and checked the check-in records, but after searching through all the top-floor suites, there was no record of that room number, not even a temporary reservation.
The guard's face turned cold. "You're spouting nonsense! There's no such room number. You're just here to cause trouble!"
Frank was stunned, his mind blank. He muttered in disbelief, "Impossible. Absolutely impossible! Kane told me himself. How can it not be there?"
He had no idea that Marcus had reserved the suite as ordered but hadn't entered Frank's details or made the room number public. Regular guards on the ground couldn't find any record.
To the guards, this was just a beggar making up lies.
"Still causing trouble? Looks like you need a lesson to learn the rules!"
The two guards lost patience and stepped forward, roughly shoving Frank.
He was old and weak, already worn down from days of sleeping rough. He couldn't handle their force and stumbled backward, tripping and falling hard onto the steps in front of the hotel.
Thud!
The cold, hard ground slammed into his back and waist. The pain made him grimace, and he could barely breathe.
His wooden stick slipped from his hand and rolled away, leaving him with no support.
It was peak guest traffic time at the hotel, with people coming and going nonstop. Luxury cars kept pulling up, and well-dressed wealthy men and women, along with business elites, all turned to stare at Frank lying on the ground in a mess. Their eyes were full of surprise, contempt, and amusement.
"What's wrong with him? Lying at the hotel entrance trying to scam someone?"
"Look at those rags. He's obviously a homeless beggar. Probably tried to sneak in for free food and got stopped."
"Overestimating himself. Sapphire Sky Hotel is a high-end place. No way a vagrant gets in."
"He's pretty old. Didn't think he'd be this shameless, skipping a normal life just to come out and humiliate himself."
The murmurs reached his ears.
Frank lay on the ground, burning with shame and anger. He'd become the target of strangers' mockery and couldn't even step through the hotel doors.
Regret and humiliation flooded over him. He'd heartlessly driven out Isabelle, spoiled the vicious Evelyn, and destroyed his own family and his later years with his own hands. Now he was homeless. It was all his own doing.
The two guards didn't want to waste more time. They said coldly, "Get out of here. Don't block the entrance and bother the guests. If you keep hanging around, we'll call the police and have you arrested."
Frank lay on the cold ground, unable to get up for a long time. He looked around and spotted an old public phone booth on the corner. Gritting his teeth, he used the wall for support and limped over, dropped in some coins, and dialed Kane's number.
As soon as the call connected, Frank's suppressed anger exploded. "Kane! Did you do this on purpose? You wanted to humiliate me!"
At the villa party, Kane was chatting with guests when he heard the furious outburst over the phone. He frowned, looking confused. He stepped to a quiet spot and said calmly, "What are you going on about? How did I humiliate you?"
"Still pretending!"
Frank shook with rage, his voice full of grievance and resentment. "You clearly said you'd arranged the presidential suite at Sapphire Sky Hotel for me!"
"I walked over half an hour to get there, and the guards treated me like a beggar and kicked me out! People all over the city were laughing at me. You did this to mess with me on purpose!"
Kane's eyes flickered with a hint of amusement, though his tone stayed flat. "Something like that happened? They stopped you at the hotel entrance?"
"What else!"
Frank shouted, "If you didn't want to help me, just say so. No need to toy with me like this. You're so vicious!"
"Fine, I got it."
Kane didn't feel like arguing over the phone. "Wait at the hotel entrance. I'm coming over now."
He hung up, gave Isabelle a quick word, and drove alone to Sapphire Sky Hotel.
A few minutes later, the black luxury car pulled up smoothly by the hotel road.
Kane got out and immediately spotted Frank at the bottom of the steps, looking disheveled with messy hair.
Seeing how ridiculous and pathetic he looked, Kane couldn't help but find it funny, a trace of mockery in his eyes.
He walked over slowly and said flatly, "You called me just to yell over this?"
Frank looked up at him, angry and wronged, but didn't dare act out again.
Kane didn't bother with more talk and waved him forward. "Come with me."
As they reached the hotel's main entrance steps, the same two guards stepped up to block them.
"Bringing backup now? What, not satisfied and want to cause more trouble?"
"I suggest you both get lost. Don't make trouble at Sapphire Sky Hotel. This isn't a place for lowlife beggars like you to act up!"
Their tone was arrogant, their eyes full of disdain as they looked over Kane in his ordinary clothes and Frank in rags.
"Get out of the way! Or don't blame me for what happens next!" Kane's eyes narrowed.
Frank's face went deathly pale in an instant.
He panicked.
Kane had lost his mind!
Sapphire Sky Hotel was the top high-end spot in Harborview City, backed by powerful forces. Ordinary people couldn't afford to mess with it!
Kane actually dared to confront the guards here. Was he trying to get himself killed?
