Chapter 36 The Place We First Lied

Chapter 36 The Place We First Lied
Chapter 32: The Place We First Lied
The note was written in Damian’s blood on the inside of a white rose petal.
I read it six times before the words stopped swimming.
Find me in the place we first lied.
Our old high school gym.
The reunion.
Where I marched up to him in front of everyone, drunk on adrenaline and cheap champagne, and announced to the entire room that Damian Black had been my boyfriend for six months.
The first lie that became the first truth.
I left the courthouse in the wedding dress turned war-zone relic: silk shredded, hem soaked crimson, knife still strapped to my thigh. Riley tried to stop me, shouting about triage and feds and containment, but I was already moving, barefoot across broken glass, the poison crawling spider-slow up my left arm, turning the skin marble-white.
I stole a motorcycle from a fallen hybrid (sleek black, Apex logo still glowing on the tank) and tore through the city at speeds that should have killed me. The wind ripped tears from my eyes. The ring on my finger pulsed like a dying star.
The school was abandoned after midnight, chain-link fence half collapsed, windows dark. I kicked the side door open and stepped into the exact spot where everything had begun.
The gym smelled of dust, old wax, and something metallic now, blood or memory, I couldn’t tell.
Emergency lights flickered on.
He was waiting in the center circle, the same place he’d stood the night I claimed him.
Except it wasn’t just him.
Two strangers flanked Damian, and my heart stopped so violently I tasted copper.
The woman on his left was tall, copper-skinned, with a cascade of silver-white braids that caught the red exit-sign glow like moonlight on water. She wore a cropped leather jacket over nothing but black lace, combat boots laced to the knee, and a smile sharp enough to cut glass. A long scar curved from her left temple to the corner of her mouth, and her eyes were the color of glacier melt, unnatural, luminous.
The man on his right was her opposite: pale as winter, black hair falling in a careless wave over one eye, dressed in an immaculate charcoal suit that cost more than most cars. His smile was soft, almost shy, but something ancient lived behind it. When he tilted his head, the shadows seemed to lean toward him like he owned gravity.
Damian looked worse than death. Shirt unbuttoned and hanging open, bandages gone, the harpoon wound and every bullet graze reopened and bleeding freely. His pupils were blown wide, skin fever-hot, but his eyes, those storm-blue eyes, locked on me with desperate clarity.
“Ava,” he rasped, voice shredded. “Meet the only two people Nadia never managed to copy.”
The woman lifted a brow. “We’re a limited edition, darling.”
The man inclined his head. “We prefer the term originals.”
Damian took one stumbling step forward. “This is Nyx Valcour and Saint Croix. They’re… the first successes. Before Nadia perfected obedience. They broke their conditioning twenty years ago. They’ve been hunting her ever since.”
Nyx’s smile widened, predatory and beautiful. “And tonight, little heir, we’re here to finish the hunt. But first,” she glanced at the ring on my finger, then at the matching one on Damian’s, “we need to keep you both breathing.”
Saint moved like smoke, suddenly behind me, cool fingers brushing the frozen skin of my poisoned arm. “The toxin is elegant,” he murmured, voice velvet and midnight. “It needs a counter-agent that only exists when two specific bloodlines merge at the moment of climax. Nadia’s final cruelty, force the heirs to fuck or die.”
My knees nearly buckled.
Damian’s gaze burned into mine, raw, terrified, hungry. “I’m not letting you die, Ava. Not tonight. Not ever.”
Nyx laughed, low and filthy. “Oh, we’re going to do so much more than not die.”
She stepped close, scent of gunpowder and jasmine curling around me. “We’re the antidote, sweetheart. Our blood neutralizes the poison on contact, but only if it’s introduced at the peak of shared orgasm. Saint and I are living catalysts. Think of us as… very enthusiastic medical equipment.”
Saint’s hand slid down my spine, slow, reverent. “We’ve done this before. Many times. For others Nadia poisoned. We’re extremely good at it.”
My pulse thundered so loud I barely heard Damian’s growl, low, possessive, almost feral. “Touch her and I’ll—”
“You’ll what?” Nyx cut in, amused. “Bleed out in the next four minutes? Relax, Black. We’re not stealing your wife. We’re saving her. And you.” She traced a fingertip down Damian’s chest, collecting blood, bringing it to her lips and licking it clean with deliberate slowness. “You taste like rage and devotion. Delicious.”
Saint’s mouth brushed my ear. “Consent, Ava. Say it once, and we stop the clock.”
The poison reached my shoulder. Ice and fire at once. My vision tunneled.
Damian staggered forward until we were chest to chest, his forehead dropping to mine. “I trust them with my life,” he whispered. “I’ve trusted them with worse. But I need to hear it from you. Tell me yes, Ava. Tell me you’ll let them save us.”
His voice cracked on my name.
I looked at the two impossible creatures who had survived Nadia’s labs and chosen freedom. At the man I loved bleeding out in the place we began. At the ring that had become a death sentence.
“Yes,” I breathed. “Save us.”
The lights dimmed further, emergency reds bathing the gym in the color of sin and war.
Nyx moved first.
She kissed me like she was declaring ownership and worship in the same breath, tongue sliding against mine, tasting of copper and smoke. Her hands were everywhere, peeling the ruined wedding dress from my shoulders, letting it pool at my feet until I stood in nothing but white lace panties, garter, and the knife still strapped to my thigh.
Saint was behind Damian, easing the shredded shirt away, pressing open-mouthed kisses to every bullet graze, every scar, murmuring in a language that felt older than time. Damian’s head fell back against Saint’s shoulder, a broken sound escaping him as Saint’s elegant fingers opened his belt with practiced grace.
Nyx dropped to her knees in front of me, glacier eyes locked on mine as she hooked her fingers in my panties and dragged them down my legs. The air was cold against my heated skin, but her mouth was hotter, licking a slow stripe up my center that tore a cry from my throat.
Damian’s eyes found mine across the gym floor, wild, drugged with poison and lust, watching Nyx devour me like he was starving for the sight. Saint had him half naked now, trousers shoved down, stroking him with slow, reverent pulls that made Damian’s hips jerk helplessly.
“Look at him,” Nyx purred against my clit, teeth grazing just enough to spark lightning behind my eyes. “Look how beautifully he breaks for you.”
I couldn’t look away.
Saint turned Damian to face us fully, pressing him down onto the old wrestling mats that still smelled faintly of teenage sweat and victory. He knelt between Damian’s spread thighs, mouth descending in one smooth glide that dragged a guttural moan from Damian’s chest.
Nyx stood, stripping with liquid efficiency, leather and lace hitting the floor until she was gloriously bare, scars and muscle and lethal curves. She pulled me down with her, arranging us so I straddled Damian’s hips while Saint continued his slow, devastating worship.
Damian’s hands gripped my thighs hard enough to bruise, eyes blown black. “Ava,” he groaned, voice wrecked. “Need you. Need inside you, now—”
Nyx straddled his chest behind me, reaching around to roll my nipples between expert fingers, her mouth at my throat. “Not yet, darling. We have to time it perfectly.”
Saint pulled off with a wet sound, lips swollen and shiny, and crawled up Damian’s body to kiss him deep and filthy, sharing the taste of him. Then he moved to me, claiming my mouth the same way, letting me taste Damian on his tongue while Nyx’s hand slid between my legs, two fingers pushing inside me without warning, curling hard.
I shattered almost instantly, orgasm crashing over me so violently my vision whited out. Nyx held me through it, whispering filthy praise in my ear, her other hand stroking Damian in time with her thrusts inside me.
When I came back to myself, Saint was coating his fingers in something from a small vial, blood, their blood, thick and shimmering like liquid starlight.
“First dose,” he said softly, and slid two slick fingers into Damian alongside Nyx’s hand on his cock, pressing deep and deliberate until Damian arched off the mat with a hoarse shout.
Nyx withdrew from me, bringing her fingers to Damian’s mouth. He sucked them clean like a man possessed, eyes never leaving mine.
Then she guided me down, lining me up, sinking me onto Damian in one slow, relentless slide.
The sound he made was inhuman.
We moved together like we’d done this a thousand times and never before, my hips rolling, his thrusting up to meet me, Nyx and Saint surrounding us like living flame. Saint’s mouth found my neck, teeth sinking in just enough to sting as Nyx reached between us, fingers circling my clit in perfect sync.
Damian’s hands slid up my back, tangling in my hair, pulling me down until our mouths fused, kiss all teeth and desperation and love poured into every stroke.
I felt it building again, bigger, catastrophic, the poison retreating with every thrust, every shared breath.
“Now,” Saint commanded, voice rough for the first time.
Nyx bit my shoulder, hard, breaking skin. Saint did the same to Damian. Their blood mixed with ours, hot and electric.
The orgasm hit us simultaneously, mine, Damian’s, theirs, one endless wave that tore screams from all four of us. I felt the poison burn away in a rush of white fire, felt Damian spill inside me as I clenched around him, felt Nyx and Saint shudder against our backs like they were coming just from the contact.
We collapsed in a tangle of limbs and sweat and blood, the gym spinning slowly back into focus.
Damian’s arms locked around me like he’d never let go, face buried in my neck, breathing me in like oxygen.
Nyx laughed breathlessly against my spine. “Told you we were good at this.”
Saint pressed a kiss to Damian’s temple, then mine. “The poison is neutralized. Permanently. Your blood is rewritten now. Nadia can never touch you again.”
Damian’s voice was hoarse but steady. “Where is she?”
Nyx’s smile turned lethal. “We tracked her final upload signature. She’s in the old Apex tower, top floor. Thinks she’s safe in digital form.”
Saint stood, already dressing with that impossible grace. “We’re going to unplug her. Permanently.”
Damian looked up at me, eyes clear for the first time in hours. “Together?”
I kissed him, slow and deep, tasting blood and sex and forever.
“Together.”
Nyx tossed me my knife. Saint offered Damian a fresh shirt, black, of course.
As we walked out of the gym, four shadows instead of two, I glanced back once at the place we first lied.
The lie had become a vow.
And the vow had just become a war cry.
Cliffhanger: The Apex tower lights up like a blade against the night sky, every floor glowing blood-red except the very top, pure white, pulsing like a heartbeat.
Nadia’s voice echoes across the city, no longer human:
“Come home, children.
Mother is waiting.”
