Chapter 11 The Silent Oath
"Do you think this will change anything?" Elder Kane’s voice echoed in the hall, His eyes, ever watchful, remained fixed on Sienna as she stepped into the great chamber, the crown now resting heavily on her brow. The massive doors behind her creaked shut, well locked just in case locking her within the cold walls of the Council’s seat of power. The golden rays of dawn filtered through the tall windows, casting long shadows across the stone floor. She could almost taste the weight of the silence in the air , thick, suffocating. The Council waited.Sienna didn’t flinch as Elder Kane’s words sank in. Instead, she raised her chin slightly, her lips curling into a thin, practiced smile. A queen’s smile. A mask. "It’s the only choice I had, wasn’t it?"she replied softly, her voice steady but icy.The room fell silent, every member of the Council studying her, They were trying to see through her, to tear away the veneer of composure she had carefully constructed. They wouldn’t succeed, not yet. Not today.
She let the silence stretch, just long enough to remind them that she wasn’t the naïve girl they once thought they could manipulate. They had underestimated her , all of them.
"I don’t see why it would change anything," she continued, her words like daggers, each one sharper than the last. "The game remains the same, doesn’t it, Elder Kane? The power still rests with the Council. And I… well, I’m simply here to play my part."
A faint smirk tugged at the corner of Kane’s lips, but his eyes never softened. "You’re not playing a part anymore, Sienna. You are the part. You wear the crown now, and that makes you one of us." He stepped forward, his long robes trailing behind him, and his voice lowered to a near whisper. "You might believe you can destroy us from within. But we have all the time in the world. Time, and patience. That’s all we need."
Sienna didn’t respond, but her mind was already racing. She had not come this far to play their game. No. She was no pawn. She had made her decision in the garden, but this was only the beginning. The Council believed her weak, believed that her loyalty could be bought with a crown and the promise of power. But they were wrong. She would take what she was owed, and she would break their hold on her kingdom from the inside out.
"Where is Ryder?" she asked, her voice sharper now, demanding.
The room seemed to pause. A tension thickened the air. Elder Kane’s lips twitched, and for a moment, Sienna thought she saw something like fear in his eyes. It was gone before she could be sure.
"That’s none of your concern," Kane replied curtly. "The wolf is contained. His place is beneath this roof, where he can be kept under control."
Sienna felt the anger flare in her chest at the mention of Ryder’s captivity. Beneath this roof, in chains, a beast that could tear through the very walls of this place. The thought of him caged, bound, helpless, twisted something dark and sharp within her.
"Where is he?" she repeated, her voice low, dangerous.
Kane’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous smile curling across his lips. "I told you already. He’s not your concern. You have your crown now. You have your place."
But Sienna had had enough of their games. "If you think for one second I’ll sit idly by while you imprison him, "
"You’ll do nothing," Elder Kane interrupted, his tone icy, his voice laden with an authority that had once terrified her. "You are ours now, Sienna. Don’t forget that."
The words landed like a slap, but Sienna didn’t flinch. Her mind was already thinking ahead, calculating her next plan. Planning how to dealt with them. The Council had underestimated her, yes. But more importantly, they had underestimated Ryder.
Ryder was no mere man. He was a weapon. A force of nature. And soon, he would be free.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft, yet unmistakable sound , the creak of a door opening behind her.
"Ah, there you are."
The voice was like a dark melody, soft and full of knowing. Sienna’s breath hitched, her body immediately recognizing the voice before her mind could even place it.
She didn’t turn, but she didn’t need to. She could feel his presence behind her, like a shadow creeping into the room, wrapping itself around her like an old, familiar cloak.
Ryder.
Her heart beat faster, and for a moment, she allowed herself the smallest flicker of weakness , the smallest crack in her walls. But only for a moment. She was a queen now, and she would not be swayed by longing, no matter how deep it ran.
"Did you enjoy your little coronation?" Ryder’s voice was low, the words edged with a dark amusement. "Or was it simply a formality?"
Sienna clenched her fists at her sides, the sharp pain of her nails digging into her palms grounding her. "You don’t belong here," she said, her voice colder now, harder. "Not after everything you’ve done."
"Not after everything we have done?" Ryder’s voice was a soft challenge, like a dare. He wasn’t in the room, but she could hear the disdain in his tone, the unspoken question that burned beneath his words. He was somewhere close , too close , though she refused to turn and face him.
"You think you can fix this?" Ryder’s voice came again, closer this time, a whisper against the back of her neck. "You can’t. You’re already part of the game now. You’re one of them."
His words stung, but she couldn’t let him see it. She couldn’t let anyone see it. She had already made her choice. She would tear the Council down from the inside, even if it meant losing herself in the process.
"And you?" she spat, her voice dripping with contempt. "You’ve already lost. You’re just a monster, locked away and chained. Nothing more."
For a long moment, the room was still. Then, Ryder spoke again , his words so soft, so calm, they sent a shiver down her spine.
"You’re wrong, Sienna. I’m not the monster here. You are."
Her heart skipped a beat. She turned her head slightly, just enough to catch a glimpse of him, standing in the shadows just beyond the circle of light. His dark eyes gleamed with something she couldn’t quite read, but the hunger in them was unmistakable.
Sienna’s breath hitched. She could feel the weight of his gaze on her, like a touch, like fire licking at her skin. For a moment, her resolve faltered.
But only for a moment.
Her lips curled into a smile, a dark, dangerous smile. "Then you’d better watch your back, Ryder. Because I’m not the one who’s going to burn."
The words were out before she could stop them, and they hung in the air between them, charged with unspoken meaning. Something shifted in the room, a crackling tension, a promise of something dark.
And as the tension mounted, as the walls seemed to close in on her, she heard the faintest sound , the sound of chains rattling. A soft, almost imperceptible sound. But enough to make her heart race.
"Ryder," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "What are you doing?"
Before she could turn around, a shout rang through the room, the sound of the chains snapping under impossible force.
The room exploded into chaos.
,
The door slammed open with a deafening crash. Sienna spun around, eyes wide in shock.
The last thing she saw before the world around her went black was Ryder, standing tall, his chains shattered, his eyes burning with a wild, untamed fury. And then, nothing. Everything went blurry and later black out.
