Chapter 46

Claire’s POV

A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER THE ATTACK…

“How dare you disrespect me like that?” Sophie yelled. I could almost tell from the look in her eyes that she was burning with anger.

She etched closer to me as I flinched. But then, her hand landed a smack on my face. However this time, I had clawed nails scratching at my face. Her eyes widened in surprise before she hid them behind a harsh glare.

My hand cradled the burning of my cheek as I tried to control my tears.

“Who do you think you are?”

“Plus, you're lucky Kelvin isn't here. Learn your place mutt!” She scowled in my face before stomping out of the kitchen.

I wasted no extra dwindling on yet another event, knowing Alpha Kelvin had ordered that I make him coffee. And then in a couple of minutes, I headed up the stairs that led to his office where he had been all morning.

On getting to the door of his office, I let down my hair just like Sophie had instructed me to. Making sure to have my newly acquired scar covered.

I glanced down at my wrinkled clothes, unhappy. I wiped away tears, to find that my eyes had suddenly become swollen. I’d have to fix that after this.

As I stepped forward, I hoped in my mind that I didn't look beaten. But I knew I was when the alpha’s guards gave me weary glances upon arrival.

The doors opened for me and I kept my head down as I made my way silently into his office. Placing the mug right on top the coffee table where the Alpha sat.

I gently placed his coffee on the table and then dabbed up the coffee from the hardwood floor. The conversation in my head never stopped, but I drowned it out. Keeping my attention on not messing things up than it already is.

I glanced at the dried blotches on the Alpha’s shoes fighting off the temptation of having them cleaned. But I didn't want to act out of place so I stayed to myself. And when moved his foot away from me, I took the hint.

Keeping my head down, I turned to the Alpha and gave a slight now ready to leave. I let my hair cast last my cheek covering up my scar. But the minute I looked up, I met eyes with the Alpha. However, they hardened when he saw my face.

I felt the warmth of heat flood my cheeks with embarrassment as his gaze met mine. At that moment I wanted nothing more but to go to my bedroom crying myself to sleep.

“What's that on your face?” Alpha Kelvin’s cold gesture snapped me back to the realms of reality as I dipped down my head.

I stayed mute, staring at my fingers and then back at the floor knowing I had no response to that. And knowing me saying a word was sure to get Sophie into trouble and that meant more trouble for me.

“N-nothing serious, I slipped and fell,” I lied.

Instantly, he banged his hand over the table causing me to flinch in fear. But still, I couldn't look him straight in the eyes, most especially knowing for the fact that I had lied to him.

“What did I say about lying?” He questioned.

Without a word, I took a step backward with my eyes glued to the floor knowing I couldn't say a word either.

“Claire!” He snapped at me. And this time hurried towards me as he flipped my hair over to the side now revealing my scar.

“Who did this to you!” Alpha Kelvin yelled.

For some reason, I couldn't understand the reason he always made me feel confused about his status towards me.

“Speak!” He ordered.

I trembled at the sound of his voice, waiting to be devoured and beaten like every other day.

“Don't make me force those words out of your mouth!” Alpha Kelvin scowled. Left with no choice, I finally parted my lips to speak.

“S-s—-” I stuttered.

“Sophie!” He growled and instantly the whole place trembled and shook at the sound of his growl.

“Michael!”

“Get the pack nurse to have her treated and order Sophie up here now!” He yelled.

Instantly without any protest, the guard ran off and I followed suit from behind him. But as I did, I met Sophie in the hallway and I could already tell from the look in her eyes that I was in more trouble.

“Shit!” I mumbled, taking a deep breath.

“Come this way,” The pack nurse said, and just as she’d instructed I settled into the chair beside her and then waited patiently. And then she went on and on with the treatment on my face.

In less than a couple of hours, I was standing by the field. My eyes tried to focus on the wolves that were training in front of me, but for some reason, everything blurred. I was aware of Ms. Lora’s hands on my shoulders in seconds and so I turned my head to stare at her.

“Are you okay?” She asked.

“I-I-I don't feel good,” I mumbled squeezing my eyes shut as intense pressure invaded my skull.

“What's happening?” A demanding voice called out from behind us.

I opened my eyes to find myself kneeling on the floor, and through the tears of pain, I saw Alpha Kevin at height, hands hovering over me.

My bones suddenly felt like they were cracking with every breath.

“I-I don't know. It's almost as If she's…” Someone muttered from above me.

“What?” Alpha Kelvin snapped, his voice utterly loud and clear.

“Shifting,”

The cramping in my legs caused me to groan and fall to the side, something caught my head before I fell. It radiated warmth and as I turned my nose into it, I felt it smelt amazing too.

“Is that even possible?” Another voice said from behind me.

“How strange,” A voice added.

I tried pushing myself up, as I suddenly felt nauseous but in a weak state. And in a second I collapsed. As if by fate, a comforting hand flipped me over, holding my hair and stomach as I vomited. I felt another arm give way underneath me. I screamed as it cracked and a searing hot pain shot up my arm.

My skin felt like it was tearing under the strain. An intense throbbing overtook my brain and I heard screaming.

My screaming…

Flames of pain consumed me once again as my body contorted upon its own will. It almost felt as though I was meant to die today.

After much struggling, wincing, and yelling in pain, I could feel tears streaming down my face as my ribs broke one by one. My lungs suddenly felt constricted as I struggled for breath. A couple of minutes later, my vision unfocused completely, and dots blacked out the light as I finally gave in to the pain and then I succumbed to whatever was happening to me.

“It hurts!” I whimpered silently and then I squeezed my eyes shut completely and then in seconds I finally let go.

Succumbing finally to the pain in seconds, I zoned out…
