Chapter 14: When the Cab Took Flight
Chapter 14: When the Cab Took Flight
“Trying to impress Sammy with this stunt? Girl, do yourself a favor—go home and check a mirror!”
A tall girl in a tight leather dress sneered, twisting her hips like she owned the night. Her voice dripped with mockery.
“Get that junk heap out of here!” a boy added with a loud laugh. “If you scratch one of these beauties, you couldn’t pay for the damage even if you sold yourself!”
The laughter spread like wildfire, harsh and cruel.
Dylan Carter stepped forward, ready to drag Elira away, when Sammy raised a hand—halting him with a lazy smirk. His dark eyes gleamed with amusement as he shoved the giggling girl off his arm and slid into the driver’s seat of his gleaming silver sports car.
The crowd froze.
“Bro, no way—you’re really racing her?” his friends blurted, staring in disbelief.
Sammy’s grin widened as he crooked a finger at the girl beside him. She scrambled into his passenger seat like an obedient doll. His arm slung across her shoulders with casual arrogance.
“I’ll give you twenty seconds,” he said smoothly, locking eyes with Elira. “Go on. Make me laugh.”
Elira’s voice cut through the night like a blade.
“No need. I don’t want pity. If I lose, I’ll pay you $150,000. So stop wasting my time.”
Gasps rippled through the crowd. Phones lifted. Comments blew up on livestreams.
Sammy chuckled, his tone dripping with mockery.
“I like that fire. But don’t cry when you lose, sweetheart. I’m not the comforting type.”
Elira tilted her head slightly, lips curving into a lethal smirk.
“You talk too much.”
The tension snapped taut as Dylan lifted his arm high.
“READY—SET—GO!”
The cab launched forward like a bullet from a gun.
For one stunned second, the crowd gawked.
Was that… speed?!
Sammy blinked. He’d only agreed to humor her, to entertain himself on a boring night. But now—his grin faltered. His fingers tightened on the wheel.
Interesting.
He shoved the girl’s hand off his arm, slammed the accelerator, and his silver beast roared like thunder as it lunged after the blue cab.
“HAHA! Look at that junk heap go!”
“She’s insane—against Sammy?!”
“That car won’t last a mile!”
The crowd laughed and heckled, confident of the outcome.
But halfway up the twisting mountain road, their laughter died.
The cab wasn’t slowing down.
It was dancing with death—hugging corners so tight its tires nearly kissed the cliff’s edge. Dust flew. Sparks flared. The old engine howled like a wild beast unleashed.
Sammy sneered and surged ahead, his engine screaming as he ripped past her with a burst of raw power. He tossed her a cocky grin through his window—like he was stamping GAME OVER across her forehead.
Then he turned back to his passenger, teasing her with a lazy smile—until his eyes flicked to the rearview mirror.
And froze.
The cab.
Still there.
Clinging to him like a shadow that refused to die.
Sammy’s smirk shattered. His jaw locked. He slammed the pedal harder, the speedometer climbing dangerously high.
But that damn cab didn’t back down.
Adrenaline flooded his veins. The game was over—this was war.
Who the hell IS she?
Up ahead, a deadly curve loomed. One wrong move meant death. Sammy gripped the wheel tighter, his silver monster slicing through the bend like a razor.
But Elira—oh, Elira—she didn’t just follow.
She attacked.
The cab lunged forward like a predator, skimming so close to the cliff edge that the crowd watching the livestream screamed.
Sammy’s eyes bulged as the blue blur shot past him in a move so insane, so flawless, it didn’t look real. She drifted through the corner with the grace of a dancer—while flirting with death itself.
Gasps tore through the night.
“What the hell was that?!”
“She’s not racing—she’s DESTROYING him!”
“No—she’s… she’s toying with him!”
Sammy’s pulse roared in his ears. Rage burned away his arrogance. He slammed the accelerator, throwing everything he had into the chase. Metal kissed metal as they collided, sparks bursting into the darkness.
Two worlds collided—one polished silver monster, one battered blue relic—locked in a feral dance on a road carved into the sky.
The finish line loomed. The crowd screamed his name.
“Sammy! Sammy! SAMMY!”
Victory was within reach. He grinned savagely. The girl had guts, but guts don’t beat horsepower.
Then—
The cab vanished.
“What the—”
A shadow swept across his windshield.
Sammy’s head jerked up—and his blood iced over.
The cab.
Flying.
For one split second, the battered blue car soared through the night sky like a phantom beast—clearing his silver beauty in a leap that defied reason, gravity, and God Himself.
Gasps exploded into shrieks.
“WHAT THE HELL?!”
“Did that car just—FLY?!”
“NO WAY! NO FREAKING WAY!”
The cab hit the ground with a thunderous slam, tires shrieking as it carved a perfect drift across the finish line. It spun in a slow, controlled arc and stopped—nose pointed like a blade at Sammy’s stunned silver machine.
The mountain fell silent.
Then chaos erupted.
Phones flew up. Screams split the air.
“OH MY GOD!”
“She freaking DID IT!”
“She DESTROYED him—in a CAB!”
Sammy sat frozen, his hands glued to the wheel, his heart pounding like a war drum.
And Elira?
She stepped out slowly, her school uniform catching the wind, her eyes locking on him—cold, sharp, and lethal.
A predator staring at her prey.
And in that moment, under the neon blaze and roaring engines, the city’s most untouchable prince realized—
The game had just changed.
