Chapter 60 060

Chapter 60 060
Aveline's POV
The room’s tension felt heavy as silence reigned between the Alpha and me. He looked so conflicted by my question, maybe debating whether it was a good idea to tell me anything or not, but from his silence, I already deduced my answer.

I was dangerous to him too maybe even more lethal to him than the rest. Would that not be the very reason he rejected me as his mate? Because I was his doom, and he wanted to change fate by doing that.

But how? How had everything changed so suddenly?

I didn't want to believe that I was that lethal or that I could hurt anyone, or that what I dreamt about could be my reality, but the chilling feeling of familiarity I had with the scene made me shiver. It was as if that was my calling. It felt so real, and that shook me to my bones.

“Aveline.” I heard him call, jolting me out of my thoughts, and I realized he had been speaking to me all the while.

“Your Majesty,” I replied, my voice shaky as the reality of things weighed heavily on me. How could my ordinary omega status have changed overnight into this?

“It’s nothing you’re thinking, I’m sure…” he was saying, but I cut him off as I stood from the bed and walked toward the entrance of the room.

I felt I needed to find out the truth myself. There was something different about me that no one wanted to tell me.

“But it doesn’t look like something I shouldn’t be worried about,” I mumbled, a sigh escaping my mouth. “If you don’t want to tell me yourself, is there something I can turn to?”

The Alpha looked disgruntled as I said that, and he turned toward Sir Zeric, who gave a nod, allowing him to go on.

“I won’t tell you anything, Aveline, but when you find out what’s going on, you shouldn’t hide,” he said, walking toward me and grabbing my hand. “I will stay with you no matter what happens, so don’t ever forsake me.”

I nodded at his firm words, but I didn’t promise anything. I needed to know what type of person I had become before making any promises.

“I need to go back to the quarters. I have some unfinished business,” I mumbled as I left the room. I walked out after assuring him I would return, but Sir Zeric followed behind me.

“The Alpha is hiding something from me, right?” I asked him, and he nodded.

“But he’s trying to protect you, so I hope you will trust him and let him handle it.” He left me in the hallway with my thoughts, but his words unsettled me even more.

My tongue felt numb; I didn’t know the right questions to ask, so I simply let him leave. I would find the answers on my own. I left the hallway for the quarters.

I heard different whispers as I walked down the corridor, and I bowed my head in shame, not wanting to see their disgusting looks. I loved it when I was almost invisible to people, but now…

I didn’t mean to cause such a ruckus or even hurt anyone, but it didn’t seem like anyone wanted to know that.

Chin up! I heard her snap, and I immediately raised my head high as I walked. A sigh escaped me when I realized what had just happened my wolf again, finding a way to show her control.

I got to the quarters, dejected about all that had been happening, but I was more concerned about my wolf. There was something about her that Alpha Draven was keeping from me.

“But what if I’m not the problem?” I doubted.

I couldn’t stomach the thought that the Moon Goddess would dump such a cruel fate on me. What if everyone was wrong? I pondered, frustration mounting because I couldn’t even feel my wolf.

She was avoiding me again. How would we ever solve anything if she kept running away?

“Can you please not desert me? I need to know the truth!” I roared, and I felt her slip back into my mind.

“Do you want to see me, Aveline?” her voice whispered, and I found myself nodding.

Even if the world told me she was evil and that I should stay away from her, it was only right that I knew what I was dealing with. She was one with me. Abandoning her now would be too late.

“Yes, I want to see you,” I whispered. I stood from the bed and rushed toward the garden, managing to sneak out.

I went to the lake. It was already evening, the full moon shining brightly, and I closed my eyes, connecting with my wolf.

“It’s time.”

I felt her take control of my mind, and I surrendered myself to her. I wanted to see her. I needed to know I wasn’t losing my sanity. This will hurt, she warned as she took charge.

“Ahh!” I whimpered when a sharp pain shot through my back.

The first crack of my bones stole my breath, a brutal snap racing down my spine. Heat flooded beneath my skin, stretching it too tight as my muscles twisted and knotted. My fingers curled against my will, lengthening, nails darkening into claws.

“It hurts…” I winced.

A shudder tore through me as a thick pelt pushed out, silver strands erupting through my skin in a burning rush. My jaw thrust forward, teeth sharpening until my breath came out as a ragged snarl instead of words. Another crack… then another… and the last of my human voice dissolved into a raw, instinctive howl. In the space of a heartbeat, I wasn’t just changing. I was becoming.

“Ahhh!” I growled loudly as my bones cracked again, and a fierce surge of energy washed through me, wiping away my fatigue and pain as my body shifted completely into wolf form.

I had shifted.

My fur prickled under the night breeze as I stood, and I needed to know how I looked, so I walked toward the lake. My paws dug firmly into the ground as I approached the water, and I stared at my reflection.

I froze, dumbfounded at the sight of a silver-furred wolf staring back at me, with soulful silver eyes and an unmistakable aura. She looked breathtaking.

“Nice to meet you, Aveline!” I heard her voice in my head, and I froze again, but my shock was quickly devoured by panic when disaster struck.

The once calm lake began to rise…
