One Hundred & Twenty Four

One Hundred & Twenty Four
Epilogue

One Year Later

The sun rose gently over the Virello estate, spilling warm, golden light across the gardens. The air smelled of roses and fresh grass, the same gardens Dante had built for Elena.…  a promise of peace after years of blood and pain.

The mansion, once filled with silence and tension, now rang with laughter.
Small, high, joyful laughter.

Two tiny figures crawled across the marble veranda... one with Dante’s dark stormy eyes and the other with Elena’s soft brown curls that bounced with every giggle.

Elena sat on a chair nearby, barefoot, her long hair tied in a loose braid. She looked like the calm after a storm...  beautiful, relaxed, and at peace, even as she tried to stop her twins from causing chaos.

“Lucian!” she called, half laughing, half exasperated. “No honey, stop  biting your sister!”

The little boy froze, his chubby hand still holding onto his sister’s arm. He blinked up at her with innocent eyes... the same eyes that had already learned how to get away with everything.

Beside him, his twin sister, Serafina, giggled and clutched something shiny in her hand. Dante’s cufflink. She held it like it was a priceless treasure.

From the doorway, Dante watched them all...his wife, his children, his world... a faint, soft smile on his face.
Once, he had ruled with fear. Now, he ruled with love.

The mansion had changed completely. The heavy silence was gone. In its place were baby laughter, the clinking of bottles, and the occasional shout of “Don’t eat that, Lucian!”
The guards still stood watch, but now they did it out of loyalty, not fear. Even Nico.… Dante’s most trusted man...  had changed. He was now the twins’ godfather, and his office, once stacked with guns and ledgers, was filled with stuffed animals and toys.

Every weekend, Elena’s parents... Matthew and Isabella came to visit, showering the twins with hugs and gifts. It was hard to believe that once, these two families were strangers. Now, they were bound by love and healed by the two tiny lives crawling around the floor.

Elena looked up and caught Dante staring at her. She smiled knowingly.

“You’re staring again.”

“Admiring,” he corrected softly, walking toward her.

He knelt beside her chair and brushed a loose curl from her cheek. His fingers lingered, gentle, reverent. “You still take my breath away, Elena.”

She laughed quietly. “You said that when I was nine months pregnant and screaming at you in the hospital.”

He smiled, remembering. “I meant it then too...  even when you tried to kill me with your words.”

“You deserved it,” she teased.

He chuckled, the sound low and warm.

Together they watched the twins. Lucian was trying to push a toy car toward Serafina. She, however, had other ideas.….  she threw it right back, hitting his head.

Lucian blinked in surprise, then laughed.

“They’re both trouble,” Dante said, shaking his head.

“They’re both us,” Elena replied with a soft smile.

He looked at her, really looked.… at the woman who had walked into his dark, broken life and somehow lit it from the inside out. She had faced his past, his sins, his demons...  and still stayed. She’d taken the cold, empty man he was and turned him into something human again.

For years, Dante’s hands had known only violence.

Now, they knew how to hold without hurting.
They knew love.

He wrapped his arm around Elena’s shoulders, pulling her close as the sun dipped low in the sky. The light turned soft and orange, wrapping around them like a blessing. The twins’ laughter echoed through the garden, pure and endless.

“This,” he murmured, watching them play, “is what I fought for.”

Elena tilted her head toward him, her voice soft but sure. “No, Dante,” she whispered. “This is what we lived for.”

He smiled... a rare, unguarded smile that only she could bring out of him.

In that quiet moment, Dante Virello...  the man who had once ruled through fear, who had built his life on revenge and blood.…understood something simple and true.

Power fades.
Empires fall.

But love… love is the only kingdom worth ruling.

He looked down at his children... his future... and at the woman beside him who had given him everything he didn’t know he needed.

Then, with a quiet breath and a heart finally at peace, he said the words that would be remembered long after his name stopped inspiring fear and began inspiring love:

“I was once the king of nothing...  a man with power in his hands but emptiness in his heart. I ruled a world built on fear, not love… and I thought that was strength. Then you came, Elena.  You tore down my walls, piece by piece, until there was nothing left but truth. You taught me that love isn’t weakness... it’s the only thing strong enough to rebuild what was broken. Now, with you by my side, I have everything. You’re my home, my peace, my forever.”

Elena leaned against him, smiling as the twins giggled and crawled toward them. She placed her hand on his, their fingers lacing together as the last rays of the sun faded into twilight.

Dante kissed her temple, his voice a whisper against her skin. “ This is Home.”

And as their children’s laughter filled the evening air, the Virellos...  a family once broken by darkness.… found their forever in peace, love, and light.
