Chapter 43 Let It Rain
Chapter 43 Let It Rain
Marilyn's POV
While I was still trying to come up with something believable—some justification for the lie I planned to tell—just before I could form a coherent answer, another voice suddenly cut through from behind me.
And Tessa suddenly appeared on the stairs.
I knew it!
I bet she had her eyes on me all this while that I was breathing hard and struggling my way down the stairs.
She saw it. She knew that I was dying of tiredness and could barely make it to the next floor, but she still made me walk all the way up here only for her to appear from nowhere. To do what now?
To scold me, I guess!
Tessa suddenly stormed forward from no particular angle precisely.
The way she appeared even scares me more than her presence itself.
She didn't hesitate. She suddenly stepped into the narrow space like a shadow of wrath and her eyes remained on me like she was coming to stab me right in my chest.
The way she moved with so much speed and urgency was as if she was about to be late to save a life.
“Master,” she said sharply, her tone dripping with something that felt like forced politeness as she stepped closer to Lucian.
“I apologise on behalf of… her clumsiness.” Tessa added rudely. Ste still had that faded smile on her face as her eyes flicked quickly at me, burning with silent fury.
I didn’t say a word. I just stood there, staring into nothing, trembling as the cold slowly seeped into my bones, threatening to make me sick.
“I’ll make sure she changes into something warm, dry, and decent before she continues anything else.” Tessa continued to talk. Her voice carried that same choking authority as always, except that today's own was followed by a dangerous kind of venom that seemed to be directed straight at me.
Lucian’s gaze softened for just a moment as he looked at me one last time, then he suddenly turned around and walked away like Tessa didn't just hide her real self just to seem nice to him.
The minute Lucian disappeared from view and his footsteps had faded down the stairs to the floor below, Tessa suddenly hissed like a predator.
Her face contorted with rage as she slowly turned around to face me fully.
Her lips pulled back to expose her clashing teeth as she snarled under her breath…then she met out a low, animalistic growl. I got scared and I almost thought of rushing behind the stair rail to hide.
Tessa didn’t even give me a chance to catch my breath before she stormed toward me, hurling insults and curses at me like I was some stray goat who had just devoured the prettiest plant in her garden.
“You… you useless, good-for-nothing, clumsy little—” she started, her voice breaking as she stomped her foot loudly, making the stairs tremble.
She didn't spare me any breathing space before she continued again, “Do you even know how much trouble you’re causing?!” She spat out the words like venom, each syllable sharper than the last.
“You drench everything! Yes, you caused this upon yourself, because why the hell do you have to make a fool of yourself? You don’t think with your senses! You don’t listen! I swear, you—” she suddenly paused and started to breathe down like someone who'd just ran a 400 metres race.
By now, Tessa's hands were already shaking with anger.
Her fists were clenched, and her body kept leaning forward, like she wanted nothing more than to physically drag every ounce of defiance out of me.
She barely let her mouth rest for a minute before she started again, louder than before.
“If you ever—even once—come close to Lucian or try to make him notice you, I swear to God, I’ll destroy you—” She suddenly paused again, then she swallowed hard, her anger was obviously growing bigger than she could contain.
She breathed heavily before speaking again. “God help you… you’ll regret it the next time you try. I promise you. You’re impossible. Always looking for a way to throw yourself into his arms. How much longer will it take you to realize that you’ve lost him? You’ve lost Lucian, you slut! So stop trying so hard and just be the maid you’re meant to be. And stop messing everything up!”
The more Tessa spoke, the higher her voice rose.
And every word that left her mouth was either a curse or a swear word.
Her rage filled the stairwell, bouncing off the walls and coming at me as if even the universe supported the curses being reigned on me.
Tessa kept stepping closer and closer to me as she rained down insults.
