Chapter 41 Steady

Chapter 41 Steady
Marilyn's POV

I was barely awake so I couldn't even fully comprehend what she was saying but by merely staring at her angry face, I bet I was in trouble.

I blinked over and over again, confused, shivering, and soaked to the skin.
My thoughts felt sluggish, and my body was still frozen from the cold.

Since I wasn't saying anything, Tessa got mad and suddenly lost patience completely.

She stamped her feet hard on the floor and screamed, “Are you deaf?”

“Move!” Her voice echoed even louder.

I shook violently, still looking completely disoriented. Then I nodded quickly, and rushed out of the room without even thinking straight.

Though I was still feeling dizzy and confused, but I managed to hurry down the hallway, water still dripping from my hair and clothes.

My legs felt weak but I forced myself forward.

All I could think of was the kitchen upstairs.

I might not have grabbed much of all her yelling and curses, but one thing I definitely remember was that Lucian was having visitors today so I must get my ass upstairs and help the other maids I'm rte kitchen.

I rushed barefooted towards the elevator—my steps desperate and pressured.

But just as I was about to get close to the ekevator and press onto its button, Tessa’s voice suddenly echoed from behind me like thunder.

“If you dare touch that elevator,” she screamed, “I’ll pluck your eyes out myself!”

I froze mid-step.

Then my heart dropped at once

I turned around quickly, panic written all over my face.

Without arguing, without thinking, I instantly turned around fully and stepped away from the ekevator.

I ran toward the stairs instead.

I didn't wait I hear Tessa's voice again, I started running down the stairs fast.

One step. Two steps. Three.

My legs were burning but I couldn't stop.

My chest were hurting too but I kept running down and down, my wet clothes making everything heavier for me to carry.

No matter how much I wanted to give up and just collapse to the floor, I manage not to.

I just kept hurrying down the stairs—nearly slipping in my haste.

I'd gone almost five floors up the stairs when my legs started to give up slowly—it was shaking badly.

My breath came out in broken gasps and I could barely see my front.

Water was still dripping from my body, leaving a trail behind me as I matched upstairs.

My vision blurred completely and I started to feel dizzy at a point.

At this point, every step felt like torture, but I kept going because stopping felt more dangerous.

For some reason, I just feel like Tessa still had her tea on me and she probably might be monitoring me from downstairs.

Who knows? Maybe she’s waiting for me to slow down so she can descend like a shadow and carry out whatever cruel plan she has for me.

I was still struggling to survive the next step when I suddenly crashed into something hard—like a firm chest.

The impact almost knocked me off balance.

I gasped loudly as my body tipping backward, but just before I slipped and dropped to the ground, strong arms suddenly caught me instantly.

Strong hands seized my waist and yanked me forward as if I weighed nothing. And without hesitation, he pulled me against his solid body, steadying me just before I could fall.

I froze completely.

My hands had already flew up and involuntarily clenched into the silk fabric of the person’s clothes.

Slowly, carefully as if I was scared if who to see, I lifted my head and my eyes widened in pure horror when I saw his face.

It was Lucian.

I was shocked to death.
