Chapter 199

Chapter 199
KIERA

My hands shook as I cracked eggs into the bowl. I kept seeing Luca's face from earlier, the way he'd looked at me when he kissed me, the way he'd held our children and promised to try.

Finally, everything will go back to normal. I don't care if he remembers me or not, I just want to love him for the rest of my life.

I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and kept mixing the batter. The kitchen door opened and I turned to see Luca wheeling himself in.

He stopped just inside the doorway and watched me, the emotions in his gaze made tears gathered in my eyes, it was exactly how he used to look at me, like he couldn't wait to devour me.

My insides went mushy "A penny for your thought,"

The corner of his lips went up in a faint smile and then his face grew serious.

"How you can still look at me with kindness after everything I've put you through."

The words made my throat tight and I had to look away before I started crying again.

"Because I love you”. I replied shortly.

I watched his face darkened with desire and he drew me until I fell on his lap, his lips covered mine before I could even utter a word.

He kissed me with so much passion, just like old times.

His tongue slid into my mouth and I moaned, goodness, it felt like heaven.

My heart thudded heavily in my chest and I ran my fingers all over his broad

The kiss was so hot that it's burning.

Burning!

Before it would fully hit my head that my baking is actually burning,I heard a shout.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Adore's voice came from the doorway and we both sprang apart and I stumbled out of his thighs.

“Oh my goodness! It's burning”. I said as I dashed towards the oven.

Today was one of those days that I told the helps to take the day off because I would like to handle the cooking myself. I enjoy cooking for my family once in a while.

Cooking and not presenting a burnt offering to them. I thought as I stared at the black dough.

Adore's face lit up when she saw us, "You're both here!" She ran over and Luca caught her and pulled her onto his lap and the gesture was so natural and easy.

"Where's your brother?" Luca asked, smoothing down her wild hair.

"Right here." Adonis walked in more slowly.

Luca gestures to the chair beside him, “come and sit”.

Adonis quickly climbed up, and just had to start my cooking all over again but I would gladly do that.

I poured pancake batter onto the hot griddle while my family sat together at the kitchen island.

"Can I have chocolate chips in mine?" Adore asked hopefully.

"It's a special day, so yes." I replied smiling.

"Why is it special?" Adonis asked.

Luca and I looked at each other and I felt my cheeks colored, I quickly concentrated on the dishes.

"Because we're having breakfast as a family," Luca said finally.

Adonis studied Luca's face and then nodded slowly. I flipped the pancakes and Adore chattered about a dream she'd had where she could fly, and Luca listened with his full attention, asking questions, making her giggle. When I set the plates down in front of them, Adore's face glowed.

"Perfect!" She picked up her fork but then stopped. "Daddy, I can't cut them."

Luca reached for her plate and I watched him try to cut the pancakes one-handed while balancing the plate. His jaw tightened in frustration when the plate nearly slid off his lap.

"Here," I said softly, taking the plate. "Let me."

"I should be able to do this," he said, and I heard the edge creeping into his voice.

"You will," I said firmly, cutting the pancakes into small pieces. "But right now, we help each other. That's what families do."

I handed the plate back to Adore and caught Luca's eye. He looked at me for a long moment and then nodded, the tension leaving his shoulders.

"Thank you," he said quietly.

Adonis was watching us and I saw his face soften.

"Can you teach me something today?" he asked Luca suddenly.

Luca turned to him. "What do you want to learn?"

"I don't know." Adonis shrugged. "Just something. Something dads teach their sons."

The words hung in the air and I saw Luca's throat work.

"How about I teach you to play chess?" Luca said. "It's about strategy, thinking ahead, protecting what matters."

Adonis's whole face brightened. "Really?"

"Really."

"Can I watch?" Adore asked through a mouthful of pancake.

"You can be my assistant," Luca said, and she beamed.

We finished breakfast and the twins helped clear the table, and for the first time in so long, the house felt warm instead of heavy. Luca caught my hand as I walked past him to the sink.

"Thank you," he said again.

"For what?"

"For not giving up," he said. "For believing I could find my way back even when I didn't believe it myself."

I squeezed his hand and felt tears threaten again.

"We're going to be okay," I whispered.

"Yes," he said, and pulled me down for a quick kiss that made my heart race.
