Chapter 185: Never been more ready.
Chapter 185: Never been more ready.
Author's POV
“Wait, the camouflaged men are already there?” Avery asked in an excited rush.
“Yup. They went yesterday, got their makeup done and are already in their position. You'll be surprised at how trained we are for this type of thing. Well, they're already there just in case the drones will be sent before we arrive, no one will be able to suspect anything.”
“Dang, that's smart. Y'all had army style training at this point, because what can you guys not do?”
“We actually did have army style training, and it really pays off.”
“It does, doesn't it?” She said and went quiet. Vince knew that she was now in her head and unlike Dario, he wanted to know what was going on, and he wasn't about to wait for her to be comfortable before finding out.
“Spill it. What's going on in that head of yours?”
“Can you give me a gun?” She asked in a voice slightly higher than a whisper.
“What?” Vince asked, convinced he hadn't heard her right.
“A gun. Could you give me one? A pistol to be specific.”
“Avery, you know Dario will kill me when he finds out. Besides, what do you need a gun for? You have your bandolier of knives. That's what we trained with, not guns. Don't you feel like you should stick with what you know?”
“Do you think I'd ask for a gun if I didn't know how to use one?” She countered, placing her hands on her waist as a sign of authority.
“Well, I haven't seen you use one, so I'm not going to give you one.” Vince stuck his nose in the air and continued walking — faster this time, causing Avery to start chasing after him and begging.
“Nope.” He said for the third time, a smirk on his face. “Not happening.”
“Fine.” Avery said with a scoff. “Let's see how smirky you are after I tell Dario that you're in a relationship with Liam.”
His head snapped to her so fast it was almost a blur, and now, Avery was the one smirking.
“No, you won't.” Vince muttered in disbelief.
“Well, watch me darling.”
“Avery please.” He begged sincerely.
“You know what you have to do. A loaded gun, and extra bullets.”
Avery didn't want to let it show, but she felt really bad blackmailing him in that manner. She didn't have a choice though. She was getting a gun one way or the other, and if it wasn't this way, she wasn't sure she'd be able to get one again. This was her opportunity to show them what she got.
“Ugh fine.” Vince groaned after a lot of consideration.
Making sure no one was coming, Vince quickly opened up his duffel bag and brought out a loaded gun and extra bullets and handed it to Avery, which she instantly slipped on to the bandolier around her belt.
“Aren't you going to hide that?” He asked worriedly, because he knew what was awaiting him if Dario found out.
“I will, don't worry.” She laughed. “I want to get to my bag. It's already in the car. And Dario isn't coming yet. He'll be there like five minutes after we get to the car. Damn, I've never seen you so jumpy.”
“Well, you would have understood but you've never seen Dario in his true nature, that's why.”
She laughed, but something else was going on in her head. This was not the first time she heard something about Dario's true nature, and now she was curious to know what it was.
“Is Liam already there or is he coming with you guys tomorrow?” Avery asked, curiosity brewing in her.
“No. He's not there and he's not coming tomorrow. Please don't tell Dario because I know that Liam is one of the men he expects to either be there or be coming with us tomorrow. I feel like Liam has already been through a lot, and I just don't want him in this. I want him to just like…get some rest, you know.”
Avery felt a strong urge to laugh, but she didn't. “Is he really going through a lot or are you scared of losing him?” She flashed him a knowing look.
“Yeah. Maybe that's actually it.” He chuckled a bit, and after their little laugh session, Avery made a promise to her friend that she wouldn't be telling Dario about his little sneaky plan and they made their way to the van.

“Whoa. You guys really outdid yourself, didn't you? I didn't think you guys would be able to pull this one off.” She smiled as she stared out at the bare strip of land that was now filled with over fifty campers and their families.
Dario just laughed at her excitement.
“How did you guys do it? How did you gather so many people?”
“I just made an advert for a competition that will be held for families, and that it's going to be a camp. Top five at the end of the competition get prizes with the least prize being a hundred thousand dollars.”
“No way you did that. Did you really mean it?”
“Mhmm. I meant it. Every bit of it. The competitions aren't going to be easy though. The money has to be earned. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.” Dario smiled lightly, tapping away at his computer as they drove past.
“It will be fun.” Avery concurred.
“I just scanned the environment, and yes, there are drones already circling the bunker. What's the plan to go in, my love?” Dario asked and Avery's face flushed, drawing a smirk out of him.
“I suggest we go out pretending to be scared. Just me, you, Vince and one more person. Once I'm in, you guys leave. Dario, make a whole show of bidding me goodbye and I'll act scared, go in and close the door and our plan is on a roll.”
“Damn. I hope I marry a genius like you one day.” The man that was sneering at her in the war room said, causing almost everyone to burst out laughing.
They did it. As Avery and the other guys walked to the hidden door of the bunker, Avery could hear buzzing noises. Anyone that was passing there would have probably thought it was flies or some other buzzing insect, but she knew that it was the drones because that area had been fumigated.
They did everything exactly as it was planned, and they left, leaving only the guys in the camouflage. They went back to the camp, where they stayed and monitored the movements, and in one hour, all the drones were gone.
Tomorrow was going to be a tough day, and Avery had never been more ready than she was at that moment
