Chapter 120 The Chase {Kieran}

Chapter 120 The Chase {Kieran}
“Kieran, stop! You’ll kill her!”

Zayn grabbed me by my shoulders and forcefully pulled me off the wheezing woman.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding as I tried to call my trembling hands. The air couldn’t get to my lungs fast enough.Zayn kept talking, but I couldn’t hear him over my racing heart. “A-answer me, Gracie.” Vulnerability laced my voice.

I looked straight at her, watching for telltale signs that indicated lies. Her eyes were filled with tears, and her body was shivering from fear.

“Y-Yes, Miss Elizabeth is pregnant.”

Oh God. I ran my hand through my hair and tugged down on the ends. Pregnant? How didn’t I know? I brought up the half-burnt image of the scan to check the date. According to the scan….Elizabeth is four months pregnant?

And if my calculations are right, the scan was taken two weeks after that night at the club, the night I took her virginity. But that couldn’t be possible… I’m….I’m defective.

“She wanted to tell you, but she was so scared of her ex fiancé that she planned to run away and start a new life, but then she was captured at—”

I cut her off with a raise of my hand. It all began to make sense to me. My scalp began to hurt from how hard I yanked on my hair.

Four months. Four fucking months and all this time, she was with child. I remembered her sudden interest in juice, avoiding anything alcoholic, every sudden weakness and loose clothing.

“Whose child is it?” I heard Zayn ask Gracie while I sank low onto the empty crate. The warehouse became quieter than a graveyard. I dropped my hand on my knees, and entwined my fingers. Deep down, I knew the answer to Zayn’s question, but I just couldn’t bring myself to believe it. My ears rang as I recalled my and Valentina’s visit to the hospital.

“Conception is possible but highly unlikely.” those were exact words the doctor said to us and with Valentina’s poor health, it was a miracle that we could actually conceive. Then Ian died, and nothing else worked. After so many trials, we lost hope, so how…?

“I-it belongs to Mr. Ferrara.” Gracie finally answered.

“Are you sure?” Zayn's voice was stern.

“I swear on my life.”

For a second, nobody moved. Then laughter burst right out of me. It was a laugh of disbelief. All this while, Valentina hated me, and I hated myself for being defective, yet Elizabeth carried my child.

My laughter ended abruptly. Silence crashed over the warehouse. For four months, Elizabeth was hiding it; she carried my child and endured Donatello’s kidnap attempt. She was carrying my child while Berlo tortured her. For four months, I accused her of betraying me. I rose slowly to my feet. A strange feeling coursed through me. Rage twisted with something I could not place my finger on.

Fear.

The slight tremble in my fingertips was from fear. Too much luck, too many miracles. A man like me doesn't always get this lucky. Elizabeth must be an angel to survive all of these attacks and still be carrying my child.

We might have just run out of luck. I rolled my shoulders and clenched fists. Time to put an end to all this bullshit. I’ve been letting Donatello play in my face for so long.

“Wrap this shit up.” I ordered the men hanging around and pointed at Zayn. “Let’s go.” I turned to leave.

“Where are we going?” Zayn asked after silently watching me zip around cars like a maniac.

I activated Veil and the dashboard illuminated as a soft vibration echoed through the cabin. “How may I be of service, Mr Ferrara?” a robotic voice spoke.

“How’s the access to Donatello going?”

“I’ve breached multiple security layers. Full access is estimated in forty minutes.”

“Hey, hey, hey.” Zayn smacked my arm hard enough to get my attention. “I’m not standing by while you commit cold blooded murder.”

I spared him a brief glance before returning my eyes to the road. A smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.

“Who said anything about murder?” Death for men like Donatello is a gift. “Donatello prides on being the only Donatello who clawed his way from nothing and ended up on forbes. He built a solid empire and walks among his peers and relatives like an immortal.”

A dark chuckle escaped me. “He’d sell his soul to keep that reputation.” i glanced at zayn and meet his eyes. He narrowed his eyes slightly. He finally understood. He gave me a slow shake of his head, hiding back his smile.

“You’re going to ruin him.”

I nodded. I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and pushed the accelerator harder. The Veil’s blue interface hovered across the dashboard.

“Warning.”

A sharp alarm suddenly pierced through the car. Zayn sat upright immediately. I frowned and pulled up the notification on the dashboard.

The Veil responded. “Three vehicles have maintianed pursuit for the last six minutes. Probability of hostile intent; ninety-seven percent.”

I checked the rearview mirror. There were three black SUVs trailing behind us, matching our movements. I grinned. “It seems we have company.”

Zayn groaned. “Please tell me we’re not doing this today.”

“We are.” i cocked open the safe compartment beneath the dashboard, revealing the pair of handguns resting inside. “They want to tag along? Let’s take them to the abattoir.”

“Excelent choice, Mr ferrara. I’ll notify them.” Veil responded immediately by ringing Pascal’s line, the one in charge.

The distance between us and the SUv closed rapidly. Beside me, Zayn kept swearing.

“Yes Boss,” Pascal’s rough voice filled the car.

“Get the men ready. I’m bringing the fight to you.” i jerked the steering wheel sharply, avoiding the first shot of bullet the second we went under the tunnel. “Got it.”

Pascal chuckled. “Finally.”

I pressed harder on the accelerator. The engine roared as the car zipped forward. The route to the abattoir was deserted and it gave way for anothe round of bullets. They bounced off the body of the car because it was bulletproof.

I turned to face Zayn who ducked low in fear. A scowl stretched my face. “Stop bitching and start shooting back dammit!”

Two armored trucks burst through a side road and intercepted the SUV’s trailing us. The men at the back hollered as drove past us. Pascal men.

Gunfire erupted immediately. The quiet street lit up with muzzle flashes, tires screeched and pascal men cursing in italian as they had their fun.

I slammed hard on the brakes, grabbed my gun and stepped out before the car fully stopped. The sound of gun cocking filled me with ease as my boot hit the pavement.

“Get in the damn car, Kieran.” Zayn shouted from where he sat.

I smiled, lifting my gun and aiming it. “I’m not missing out on this.”

Within minutes, it was over. Bodies littered the road, blood splattered messily. Pascal and his men hailed themselves while i lowered my weapon. My heart hammered in my chest, adrenaine still coursing in my veins.

But i still didn’t relax. Instinct made me turn and when i did, it was too late. Something punctured my side, the force nearly knocked me off my feet. The pain was sharp and deep, then i looked down and saw blood soaking my white shirt.

Shit.
