Chapter 117 His Retaliation

Chapter 117 His Retaliation
I woke up alone.

The sun rays peeking through the blinds were too blinding to be the morning sun, and when I checked the clock, it confirmed my suspicions. It was 12:30 in the afternoon.

No wonder I woke up alone. My body ached as I moved to sit up on the bed, but I was grateful I had no nightmares this time. Maybe because he slept with me during the night. But where was he?

I searched under my pillow for my phone, but it wasn’t there. Frowning, I checked the cupboard next to the bed, and it still wasn’t there. Just as I got down from the bed, the door to the room screeched open.

"Kieran, do you know—” The rest of my words hung in the air. Kieran wasn't the one that came in.

It was two beautiful identical Asian ladies clad in black suits and slick ponytails. From the seriousness of their outfits and the obvious ear-piece that trailed from their ears into the collar of their shirts. I knew they were bodyguards, but I didn’t know why they were here, in my room.

My heart raced, and my steps faltered. I placed my hand on my chest, my eyes darting between the two ladies frantically.

“What happened to Kieran?” My voice was dry. I was parched and scared. “Who are you and what are you doing in my room?”

They bowed in unison, at a perfect ninety degrees. I watched them, puzzled by their actions.

Their faces were stiff and expressionless when they spoke. “Good afternoon, Miss Elizabeth. We are your new bodyguards and maids. We’ve been commanded not to leave your side, or else we die.” They almost sounded robotic. It kind of crept me out.

I raised both my eyebrows. “Commanded by whom?"

“The boss"

My eyes narrowed. “You mean Kieran?"

They nodded. I released the breath I was holding when I braced myself for something serious. This was ridiculous.

“What about Brad? I don’t need extra protection.”

“We were given strict others to look after you. Outside is a mess, tge boss will not hesitate to punish us if anything happens to you?”

I scoffed. I folded my arms as I made my way to the fridge in the room to get myself a bottle of water.

“Trust me, girls. He is bluffing.” I said, poking my head inside the freezer to check for something to snack on. “besides, we’re safe here right?”

“We’ve been asked to relocate you to the safe house.”

My frown deepened. Safe house? What’s Kieran up to? I closed the fridge, losing the appetite to eat anything when I realised how serious this was sounding. One of the girls had already begun packing the bags Gracie brought just yesterday. My eyes went wide. Gracie.

I stomped over to the girl grabbing my duffel bag and stopped in front of her with my arms folded over my chest.

“Where’s Gracie?”

“She’s safe," they replied curtly.

My hands formed into fists. I inhaled deeply to calm myself. “That’s not what I asked."

“Ma’am, we have to leave within an hour. All your questions will have answers when we get to the safe house.” The other girl had gone to get me a basic cream top and black jeans to wear. They weren’t listening to me.

“I’m not leaving until one of you tells me what’s going on.” I looked around, trying to spot my phone. “And where’s my phone?”

“Boss gave us permission to lift you if we have to. And like I said before, all your questions will be answered as soon as we get to the safe house.”

She handed me clothes with a look that said she’d dress me if she had to.

I ground my molars against each other, debating if I should try to resist or obey obediently. My eyes darted between them. The one holding the clothes had a scar under her left ear, while the other one was already walking towards the door.

How dare they threaten me?

In the end, I oblige obediently. I had nowhere to run to without my phone, and in my current condition, I could not fight them off. Not like I could actually fight.

“Can I at least have my phone?” I asked them on our way to the “safe house" if I needed to call Kieran and ask him why he was treating me like an ex-convict.

“Your phone is being tracked. We had to leave quickly to avoid being ambushed.”

A chill wracked through my entire body. I glared at the twin with a scar. “Why didn’t you start with that?”

The twin with the scar was Maya, and the other twin was Anya. It was hard to tell them apart unless you zoomed in on Maya’s scar.

They weren’t chatty, and while I was going out of my mind, trying to figure out what was going on, they were chill.

I didn’t even know what the time was until we got to the airport.

Airport??

"Uhh." I looked back at Maya, who was sitting beside me. “Where exactly is the safe house?”

“Florida.”

I gaped. “We can’t just go to Florida. Please let me speak to Kieran." I begged repeatedly, but they stopped responding to me. I guessed they were certain requests I shouldn’t make.

Left with no choice, I begrudgingly walked between the two of them into the airport. It was weird. I, with my pink baseball hat, cream top and jeans, and the two ladies in suits and dark shades, scanned the area as they walked.

I pulled the baseball cap lower and folded my arms around myself. Maybe if I shrunk myself a little, I would go unnoticed.

They took me to a private area, a hangar that had “Ferrara” written on the door.

As expected. It was his private plane we’d be taking to Florida. The air leaving my nostrils was hot against the top of my lips. I was visibly fuming.

I hated how lost and unprepared i was. I felt like a package being tossed here and there without a sense of direction. The least Kieran could do was leave a note to clarify things.

At least when I got to the plane, I was fed food the moment we sat down.

Thirty minutes later, something about the news channel caught my attention. So I paused to watch.

“Explosion Rocks Famous Nightclub in Italy—Reporter Says the Scene is Still Unstable, Casualties Unknown.”

I jerked in my seat. Fear swallowed me whole. I didn’t know I was gripping the remote so tightly until I heard a crunch.

I recognised that club. Club Chaos. It was one of Berlo’s many clubs in Italy.

Oh God. I slapped a hand over my mouth, breathing through my nostrils. I watched the horrifying scene with widened eyes as realisation dawned upon me.

Did Kieran do this?

Hi, beautiful people.

I know I disappeared for a while, and I just want to say thank you for staying. The past three months have been some of the darkest and hardest moments of my life. It became difficult to find joy in the things I once loved, including writing.

Ironically, what brought my back was this book. One random day, I checked the comments and saw the views still growing, and something about your love for this story gave me motivation I didn’t expect..

Thank you so much. You may never truly understand how much your support helped me but in many ways….you saved me. To @Bassy Berry and @Ria Anny. Thank you.
