Chapter 114 His Alive{Rosie}

Chapter 114 His Alive{Rosie}
The somewhere safe Brad took me to was deep within the woods. A small cabin house that was warm with dim lights, minimal to little decoration, and woodsy furniture. From the fresh smell of mahogany that wafted into my nostrils and the furniture covered in thin layers of dust, I could tell the cabin had been abandoned for a while.

Brad walked into the room, and immediately, a feminine voice surrounded us with a warm yet robotic greeting.

“Welcome, Sir Brad and Madam Elizabeth, I’ve been expecting you," the voice greeted. I looked around with a confused frown. There were no TVs or monitors in the living room that indicated where the voice was speaking from. There was no sign of any devices or appliances, so how?

I looked back at Brad for answers. He was still brooding and was heavily focused on his phone.

“Do not ask me questions. Save them for Boss when he returns.”

The mention of Boss and return in the same sentence brought life back into my heart once again. My face immediately lights up. I rose from the kitchen stool and rushed to meet Brad in the living room, but he held a hand up to stop me from coming any closer. This coldness was getting on my nerves.

I stayed where I was at the arch of the kitchen entrance and swallowed the curse word I initially wanted to throw at him.

"I—is he alright? Kieran, I mean."

"Yes, and he ordered that you get some rest. You will need it for when he returns to question you.”

“Elizabeth?”

My neck snapped to the right, up the stairs, where Gracie rushed down excitedly with tears running down her face as she opened her arms for a hug. I was enveloped with a certain kind of warmth a mother can only give the moment she had her arms around me and squeezed so tight yet so carefully.

“You had me worried, Elizabeth," she whispered into my ear as she ran her hand through my wig.

I pulled away a little so I could see her face. I thought I would never see her again.

“I’m sorry, Gracie," I whispered, keeping myself together. I smiled warmly at her. “And it’s Rosie.”

Her smile widened. “You will always be my Elizabeth.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Gracie took me to the bedroom; there she had already cleaned. She claimed she already knew I would return while she helped me get adjusted.

“I knew he wasn’t just going to sit back and do nothing. Kieran is too smart for that.” She muttered while she folded my few clothes into the closet.

I laughed nervously. “Gracie, I came back…not because of Kieran. It was Berlo that dragged me back here for his dubious reasons.”

Gracie shook her head like she knew something I didn't. “You say that, but Boss bought this cabin off the hands of a dying man just for you, and that was after you left. Although, I once thought he meant to kidnap you and keep you in your here but then again, I never understood him. He came last night and told Brad to have me move here with a few of your things.” She finished packing my clothes and closed the door of the closet.

She turned to me, her expression serious. “So, you see, Elizabeth. Whether or not you returned, Kieran was bringing you back. Any more days without you and he was going to lose his sanity." I couldn’t look into her eyes anymore; I looked away out of guilt. I didn’t think I affected him this much.

Gracie quickly closed the gap between us, sat on the bed in front of me, and held my hands in her warm ones. She looked into my eyes desperately. “The two of you need each other badly. You’ve been given another chance to make this work; don’t let him suffer anymore, Elizabeth. Think of your child; there must be a way.”

Gracie left me alone in the bedroom with that piece of advice while she went to set up my bath. She was once a midwife, so I didn't complain when she gave me an herbal concoction that she claimed would not only calm and strengthen my baby but also make me relax.

While I was in the bath, I thought about what she said carefully. She was right. Kieran didn’t die, but in that split moment when I thought he did, I legitimately forgot about fighting for anyone. Not even for my child. My world felt like it had ended right there and then. I didn’t think I could lie to his face the next time I saw him.

I didn’t want to lose him again.

He had every right to be angry, and even though he regarded me like I was the scum beneath his shoe, I still saw the affection flash in his eyes whenever our eyes met for a split second before he cleared it.

I was tired of plotting alone. I couldn’t do it. I could not kill Berlo alone.

Yes, kill. That man deserved to die, and no government would be able to have him jailed because no evidence will point to him, and yet he claimed the lives of many with his bomb attacks. The only way I could keep the people I love protected and stay alive was to kill him, and to do that, I need Kieran’s help.

It was probably around midnight when I felt the slight touch graze my face while I slept. I knew instantly who it was. It was difficult to keep calm while he caressed my face; I didn't want him to know I was awake just yet. I wanted to soak in the moment before we began the serious discussion.

When he finally got up to leave, I opened my teary eyes and sat up quietly. There he was in a simple shirt and pants. He stood by the window, looking ahead at the trees playing in the cold breeze. My heart squeezed. He was alive.

All the rehearsals and small talk I practiced in my head went out the window the second I dropped my legs down off the bed and got up. I wore a pink satin camisole that stopped at my mid-thigh. Barefoot, I padded my way over to him. He looked behind his shoulder but didn’t move.

“Elizabeth—”

“Please allow me, Kieran.” I rushed over and hugged him from behind before he could stop me. I hugged him like I never wanted to let him go. My tears ran willingly.

“I thought I had lost you, Kieran," I sobbed into his chest. He still didn’t move. “I swear, I didn't know about Berlo’s plan; I didn't know about the bomb. Please believe me. I need you to please believe me, Kieran.”

For a long moment, he didn’t move, and when he did move, it was to hold my chin with his finger and lift my head up. I saw the moon in his eyes; they were magnificent. He looked at me with narrowed eyes and then asked,

“What happened to your hair?”
