Chapter 189 Rescue Mission
>>Azef
The call ended
I stared at the black screen with a hollow feeling. How did it get like this? One day was all it took for things to get this bad?
I shook my head
I should have explained things to her before leaving. There was no emergency to leave. I could have explained things using the same picture she saw and assumed the worst.
But I wanted to get the doll back.
I shook my head again, it felt too dizzy. My wolf was acting up, whining and having an attack at the same time. I couldn’t focus and my senses seemed to dull in that panicked state.
The screen of my phone lit up.
It was a text.
>>Sera
“What are you doing?” Somi asked while I was fidgeting with my phone.
“Nothing,” I told her and she extended her hand to me.
“Give me your phone,” She gestured to me to return it to her as if it belonged to her.
“Okay,” I got up, my fingers still on the screen as I walked over to her. I handed her the closed phone and turned around to go back to my seat.
“Let’s send Azef a text,” She turned the screen of my phone on and went to my messages app. After finding Azef’s name, she opened our chat
“There’s nothing interesting here,” She scrolled our chat.
“Why are you looking through that?” I felt annoyed but I didn’t want to get on her nerves.
“I expected something fun,” She clicked her tongue, “How boring,” She texted him the address and I let out a shaky breath.
What am I doing? I’m acting like a teenager high on her hormones or something. I hope this all turns out fine. If he doesn’t come, I’ll be okay, right?
“What’s with the long face?” She asked.
I looked at her, “Where is Eris?” I asked, “My little sister,” I remember one of my kidnappers saying she escaped. But where did she go?
“That little brat of yours is quite sharp.” She put my phone down, “She ran away when one of my men was taking her.”
“Well where did she go?” I asked
“LastI heard, she wasn’t with her mother.”
She’s not with Ariel??? “And you have no idea where she is?”
“None,” She answered
My gaze dropped.
I have a bad feeling about this.
I just hope Eris didn’t do anything stupid and I hope she’s safe. I hope she ran to the police! Or anywhere safe!
“Get up,” Somi said as she got up from the couch, “We are leaving,”
“Where are we going?” I asked as I hesitantly stood up from my place.
“You’ll find out,” She said and began to walk when I asked her another question. She must be taking me to where she wants to call Azef.
“What will you do if Azef doesn’t come?” I asked and she froze.
Then she turned to look at me, “If he doesn’t come?”
“I’m just saying,” I said, “There’s always a possibility of that happening.” We stared at each other, “You seem positive that he might come, but what if he doesn't?”
“What makes you say that?” She asked.
“You saw me talk to him,” I gulped, “He knows that I know he’s cheating on me.”
“....”
“There’s no reason for him to come now.”
“Hmm,” She thought about it, “You’re right,” She looked at her underling and snapped her finger, “We’ll just have to make one then.”
“What?” I looked at her in confusion but she just passed me a smile. I heard a faint creak behind me. Before I could react, something hard struck the back of my head, sending a blinding pain through my skull. Darkness closed in around me, and I felt myself falling into an abyss of unconsciousness.
When I finally regained consciousness, I was disoriented and nauseous.
I seemed to be swinging which was odd
What is happening?
I tried to focus and my vision unblurred after a few seconds.
!!!
The world was upside down, and it took me a moment to realize that I was hanging by my ankles. A cold breeze brushed against my skin, and the sound of waves crashing against rocks filled my ears.
My head throbbed with a dull, persistent ache.
Panic surged through me as I looked around, my eyes struggling to make sense of my surroundings. I was suspended from a crane, the wire digging around my ankles tightly, and below me, the dark, churning waters of the sea threatened to swallow me whole.
What the hell!?!??! What the hell is going on here?!?!?
I tried to scream, but my voice came out as a hoarse whisper. The blood rushed to my head, making it hard to think clearly. I twisted and turned, trying to see if anyone was around, but the area seemed deserted, the only sounds were the relentless crash of the waves and the creaking of the crane.
Am I on a sea port?!?!
My heart pounded in my chest, the terror of my situation overwhelming. How had I ended up here? Shit! Somi must have done this!!!
My thoughts raced. The helplessness was suffocating, and I fought against the restraints, my movements only causing the crane to sway slightly.
As I hung there, my eyes were wide open in fear, I couldn't help but feel utterly abandoned. The cold wind bit into my skin, and the salt spray from the sea stung my eyes, adding to my misery.
I knew I had to stay calm, had to find a way out of this, but the fear was paralyzing. I closed my eyes, taking deep breaths, trying to muster any fragment of courage I had left. The world around me was a blur of sounds and sensations, but I clung to the hope that someone would find me.
With each passing second, the reality of my situation pressed down on me. I was alone, vulnerable, and terrified,
The wind howled around me, whipping my hair into my face and making the wire from the crane creak and sway. The sky above was a tumultuous gray, heavy clouds were ready to unleash a storm at any moment. The sea below roared with ferocity, waves crashing against the rocks with relentless power.
I could feel the wire shifting, the motion sending waves of terror through me. Each gust of wind made the crane groan. The swaying intensified the sickening feeling of being suspended over the churning water.
I screamed into the void, my voice raw with desperation. "Help! Somebody, please help me!" My cries were swallowed by the wind, the crashing waves drowning out my voice. I twisted in my restraints, trying to catch sight of anyone, anything that might mean rescue, but the area around me was desolate.
"Is anyone there? Please, help!" I shouted again, my voice cracking with fear. The wind tore at my words, carrying them away before they could reach any potential savior.
The crane shifted again, the wire creaking ominously. I felt a jolt of panic. "No, no, no! Please, hold on!" I begged the contraption, as if it could hear me and take pity.
The sky rumbled with distant thunder, and the first raindrops began to fall, cold and sharp against my skin. "Help! I’m here! Somebody, please!" My voice was growing hoarse, the strain of shouting against the wind taking its toll.
I could see nothing but the vast, angry sea below and the swirling clouds above and the port devoid of any life. The hopelessness of my situation pressed down on me, making it hard to breathe. The rain started to fall harder, the droplets stinging like needles.
"Help! Please, someone!"
The wire creaked and swayed with every gust of wind, the crane groaning ominously as if it might give way at any moment.
Why the hell would Somi do this?!? Is this what she meant by making a reason?!
What a cruel woman!!
Just as I felt the last of my strength waning, I saw a figure emerging. My vision was blurred by the rain. I blinked rapidly, trying to focus. A man, dressed in all black, was walking towards me. His presence was both eerie and reassuring, a strange mixture of hope and fear coursing through me.
"Help!" I shouted again, my voice raw and desperate. "Please, help me!"
He didn't respond, didn't quicken his pace. He moved with an unsettling calm, as if he had all the time in the world. My heart pounded in my chest, a mix of terror and anticipation.
As he drew closer, I could make out more details but his face was obscured by the face mask he wore. He finally came to a stop in the clearing directly below me, the sea roaring behind him, and stood there silently, staring up at me.
"Please," I begged, my voice trembling. "Get me down from here!"
He remained silent, his dark gray eyes fixed on mine. The intensity of his gaze sent a shiver down my spine. For a moment, the storm seemed to pause, the wind and rain abating just enough to create a pocket of eerie stillness around us.
"Azef?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, fear and hope intertwining.
He said nothing. His silence was unnerving, but there was something about his presence that kept me from panicking completely. There was determination in his eyes.
The more I watched him, the further sure I was it was him
But why did he come?
I told him not to come. Right before I handed my phone to Somi, I hurriedly texted him.
‘Don’t you dare come here,’ I had texted, ‘It’s a trap’
Then why? He isn’t an idiot. I am one, but he isn’t! Why did he come?
“Get him!!” A loud voice came from behind him, catching both of our attention.
Then, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed movement in the shadows.
From different hidden corners of the landscape, figures began to emerge from their hiding spots.
!!!
My heart pounded harder as I realized we were not alone. Thugs, most likely Somi’s thighs, with their faces obscured by hoods and masks, crept towards Azef with weapons in their hands.
