Ever since I got acquainted with my species, I noticed the enormous changes within my sensory system with the enhanced senses.
The wolf packs didn't bother to hold any conversation since they could communicate through their pack links. However, the murmurs from the humans reached my ears.
"Since Mr. Richard is introducing his granddaughter officially, does this indicate Caspian is no longer in the lineage to be the next CEO?" The murmurs came from a small gathering in the middle of the hall under the massive chandelier.
"How pathetic! And I thought I would introduce my daughter to him at the next summit," one of the women bitterly said.
"What good would that bring to you if Caspian became the CEO? Are you blind to see he is getting married?" another woman questioned as her Bulgari snake-shaped necklace gleamed.
My eyes narrowed, noticing the woman. Even from afar, I could sense her strong wolf aura. I couldn't fathom why she would associate herself with the humans. The wolf gangs would barely interact with the human ones.
The guests that got invited to the party belonged to different mafia clans. Apart from the gangs, other influential personnel like politicians and people holding elite status in society were also invited. Yet, I could tell they were also connected with this mafia cycle in some way or another.
The former woman, commenting about Caspian, glared at the latter.
"Didn't know henchwoman of the Snakes' has an avocation for eavesdropping in other's conversation," the former said, frowning at the woman.
"I didn't intend to eavesdrop. It's just useless words that float to me, it's hard to ignore, you know," the woman answered calmly as her eyes glowed.
The woman looked pretty in her off-shoulder wrap dress as it flowed through her hourglass figure.
"I only wanted to clarify to whom the spotlight belongs," the woman calmly said, looking up, smirking as if she had noticed my presence behind the curtains.
Aphrodite had already captured the spotlight of the event. The people wouldn't stop talking about her elegance. Even the wolves couldn't take their eyes off her.
Catherine said Aphrodite would steal any debut ball without even trying. However, I couldn't believe she didn't make an effort for this event. The glamorous evening gown and the heavy makeup contradicted Catherine's words.
I could feel the piercing gaze of Aphrodite’s henchwoman all over me. Nevertheless, My grandpa's voice seized everyone's attention shortly after he announced my entrance.
"The time has come," I mumbled.
"My granddaughter has lived far away from me for all these years. Yet, I can not explain how proud I am of my granddaughter for molding herself in this new life. It's the most precious moment for us, the White Wolves. Please, welcome my princess, Bailey," My grandpa announced, spreading his arms as everyone looked up, following his lead.
I cringed at my grandpa's announcement. However, I couldn't deny the happiness I felt inside.
Caspian leaned on the bar, aimlessly sipping on his drink. The curtains before me got lifted.
I could hear the astounding mutterings as I slowly came downstairs. My grandpa was on the verge of losing his mandible.
"Did I exaggerate it? Will my grandpa lose his face because of me?" I wondered, getting nervous for a moment.
Then my eyes fell on my uncle. I felt relieved, noticing his twinkling eyes as he clapped happily like a child. The guests had even forgotten to clap. They joined my uncle shortly as I came downstairs.
"Where's the princess?" the guests mumbled.
"Where's her partner? Did she really come without a partner?"
"Is she alright? Who comes to her debut ball like this?"
I smirked, fixing the lapels of my dark, oversized blazer as the unbuttoned front revealed my flat, pale abs near my abdomen due to the harsh training of jiu-jitsu. I raked my fingers through my velvety, raven hair that had reached my waist behind.
The light makeup with the peachy lip tint made my rare purple eyes appear even brighter. I didn't put on many accessories besides the crescent-shaped diamond pendant, matching the white crop top beneath my suit.
"Isn't she really sexy though?" one of the guests said.
"Oh Lord, why did I put on so much makeup? Won't I look like a clown by her side," another girl cried out.
"She is not as pretty as Lady Aphrodite. Yet, she looks so elegant. I might get a crush on her," one of the daughters said.
The entire hall gazed as I confidently walked onto the red carpet below. The sounds of my high-heeled shoes pierced the silence of the ball.
I could feel all the eyes on me, scrutinizing every cell of my body. However, the only pair of eyes that mattered appeared too stunned to move.
My eyes fell on Caspian as the cameras flashed before my eyes. The guests had come back to their senses.
Caspian's arctic blue eyes continued to swerve over me shamelessly. His face was hard to read. I couldn't fathom if the smile on his face were of amusement or mockery. He leaned back on the bar, sipping his drink seductively as his eyes didn't leave mine.
"Wow! You successfully saved your spotlight," a familiar voice said. I turned to come face to face with Eris and the members of my shooting club. Each of them had attended the party as the successor of their packs.
"Oh my! How could I never notice your body before, Senior? You possess such an attractive body," Aidan cheerfully said as Cristie hit his head, almost flattening it.
"When will you learn to behave in front of your seniors?" Cristie asked angrily. "Ah- congratulations on your debut, Bailey," Cristie said, smiling at me shyly.
"You look quite good," Eris said, looking away while rubbing his back awkwardly. I didn't know this boy could ever get shy.
"Thank you!" I said, smiling at them brightly.
It felt great to have friends around at that party. My uncle came to me shortly. I happily introduced my uncle to them as they stared at my uncle confusedly. They couldn't think my uncle would be a human.
I noticed Cristie turning red as a beet as my uncle took her hand into his, gently kissing the back of her hand. I stared at my uncle flatly. It wasn't new for me. My uncle was a handsome male in his thirties, possessing manners like a prince.
My eyes fell on Caspian again. I felt a knot twisting in my gut as Caspian's eyes didn't leave me for a second. I noticed Aphrodite standing awkwardly by him. Her eyes turned to me, following Caspian.
The first day I met Aphrodite, she appeared more delicate than a petal. However, the coldness in her eyes sent a shiver down my spine. She mumbled something in Caspian's ears bitterly.
I couldn't listen to it despite my enhanced senses. Indeed, Aphrodite was an alpha wolf.
I went to my grandpa, thinking he would scold me for acting recklessly. After all, he was a billionaire businessman in front of the world. Nevertheless, my grandpa pulled me into an embrace. I could feel the warmth in his hug. I sighed in relief.
"You look great, My child. No wonder you are my granddaughter," My grandpa said, cupping my face. "The entire pack is proud of you. You can see that, right?" he asked.
I could see the happiness on the faces of my pack members. I couldn't assume not letting my spotlight get stolen would mean so much to them.
"Bailey, did you really come without a partner?" My grandpa asked concernedly. "It will be a big issue if you don't have a partner in your debut ball. I don't want others to talk ill about you."
"Do not worry, Grandpa," I calmly said, smiling at him mischievously. "I have brought the most attractive partner with me to my debut ball."
