Chapter 45

Leonardo sat at his desk, pouring over the documents in front of him. It had been two days since he'd last seen Isabella, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he was neglecting her. But he had no choice - there were matters that required his attention, and he couldn't afford to drop the ball.

Just as he was starting to feel the weight of his responsibilities, he heard a knock at the door. "Come on in," he called out, not looking up from the papers.

The door opened, and Miss Payne, the housekeeper, entered with a tray of food. "Sir, I brought your lunch," she said, setting the tray down on the edge of his desk.

Leonardo nodded, still focused on the documents. "Thank you, Miss Payne. Have you seen Isabella today?"

Miss Payne hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Actually, sir, that's why I came to see you. Isabella seems a bit...restless. She is bored and though she wouldn't say it, she misses you"

Leonardo's eyes snapped up, his gaze locking onto Miss Payne's. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice sharper than he intended.

Miss Payne's expression was neutral. "I think she feels alone, Leo. She's been stuck in that room for two days, with only me for company. She's starting to get a bit stir-crazy."

Leonardo's gut twisted with guilt. He had been so caught up in his own problems that he had forgotten how bored it could get in the base especially somewhere she doesn't know anyone but him. "Thank you, Miss Payne," he said, his voice softer now. "I'll go see her.

Leonardo's eyes were glued to the documents in front of him, his mind racing with the implications of the latest intelligence report. He was so focused that he didn't even notice the knock on the door at first. But when it came again, louder and more insistent, he looked up with a hint of irritation.

"What is it, Vito?" he asked, his voice a little sharper than he intended. He knew it was only Vito that dared to knock on his door like that

Vito's face was serious, his eyes gleaming with a hint of excitement. "Sorry to interrupt, boss, but one of the men found something interesting about the bullet found on our dead man's body."

Leonardo's irritation vanished, replaced by a sudden surge of interest. He had been waiting for results for what felt like an eternity, and now his patience was finally being rewarded. He leaned forward, his eyes locked onto Vito's. "What did they find?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.

Vito hesitated for a moment as if savoring the moment. "It seems the bullet was traced back to a rare weapon, one that's only used by a handful of people in the city."

Leonardo's eyes narrowed. "Who?" he demanded, his voice cold and deadly.

Vito smiled, a sly glint in his eye. "That's the best part, boss. It was traced back to a weapon owned by none other person than, Mr Rossi."

Leonardo's eyes blazed with a mixture of anger, doubt, and confusion, his mind reeling with the implications of what Vito had just said. Mr. Rossi? It couldn't be. He knew Isabella's father, had respected him for years, and couldn't fathom why he would resort to such a reckless and dangerous move. Especially with his own daughter in Leonardo's custody.

"No, I doubt it, Vito," Leonardo growled, his scowl deepening. "Keep digging. There has to be another explanation."

Vito raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Boss, is it because he's Isabella's father?" he asked, his voice laced with a hint of curiosity.

Leonardo's gaze narrowed, his jaw clenched in frustration. "It has nothing to do with what I just said, Vito," he snapped. "I've known Mr. Rossi for a while, and he doesn't strike me as someone who would go to such extremes. He's a businessman, not a fool."

Vito shrugged, his eyes never leaving Leonardo's face. "Maybe he's desperate, boss. Maybe he's willing to do whatever it takes to get his daughter back."

Leonardo's eyes flashed with anger at the suggestion. "Even if I am holding hostage? Vito," he growled. "He knows she is safe."

Vito raised his hands, palms up. "Hey, boss, I'm just saying. You know I'm loyal to you, but we can't ignore the evidence. Mr. Rossi's weapon was used in the attack. We need to consider the possibility that he's involved."

Leonardo's mind raced, his thoughts whirling with the implications. He still didn't believe he had anything to do with the attack. But he also couldn't ignore the evidence. He needed to get to the bottom of this, and fast. "Keep digging, Vito," he ordered, his voice cold and deadly. "I want to know everything there is to know about Mr. Rossi's involvement in this. And I want it now."

As soon as Vito left, Leonardo stood up, his mind racing with thoughts and questions. He wondered why all these challenges were happening now, at a time when he thought he had finally gained a foothold in the Mafia world. It was as though someone was deliberately targeting him, testing his strength and resolve. But who? And why?

Leonardo paced around his office, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for answers. He knew the Mafia world was treacherous, full of backstabbing and betrayal. But this was different. This was personal.

He thought about Mr. Rossi, Isabella's father. He couldn't believe that a man he had respected would turn against him. But the evidence was there, and he couldn't ignore it.

Leonardo's eyes narrowed as he thought about the situation. Mr. Rossi was a smart man, but he wasn't cunning or ruthless enough to orchestrate something like this. There had to be someone else behind the scenes, pulling the strings.

He decided to pay Mr. Rossi a visit, to confront him and get some answers. But as he walked out of his office, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was walking into a trap. That someone was waiting for him, watching him, and ready to strike.

The air was thick with tension as Leonardo made his way to Mr. Rossi's office. He could feel the weight of the situation bearing down on him, the pressure building up inside him like a volcano ready to erupt.

He took a deep breath, steadying himself for what was to come. He knew that the next few hours would be crucial, that the fate of his empire and his life hung in the balance. But he was ready. He was Leonardo, the boss, and he would not be taken down without a fight.
