Chapter38
The content of the letter still puzzled Isabella
“I have a secret to tell you”, after thinking about it all day Isabella decided to let it go, who knows it might be a prank or something.
She had spent the few days indoors, bored, doing nothing but eating, sleeping, and occasionally watching movies. She was getting tired of it; she could not communicate with the housekeepers, and when she tried, they would only nod or respond with a single word.
Isabella sat on the edge of the bed in the dimly lit room, her mind consumed with thoughts of him. Despite everything he had done to her - kidnapping her, stealing her first kiss, and playing with her emotions - she couldn't help but miss him.
She shook her head, trying to push the thoughts away. She knew she shouldn't be feeling this way about a man who had caused her so much pain and turmoil. But there was no denying the ache in her chest whenever she thought of him. She didn't know if it was the fact she was starting to see a new light in him or the fact that she despised him.
She felt tired and bored, spending her days trapped in this room with nothing to do but think about him. She longed for the excitement and danger he had brought into her life, even though she knew it was wrong. Even though they didn't speak much to each other his presence alone was somewhat comforting.
Isabella tried to distract herself with the book she had found hidden away in a drawer, but her mind kept drifting back to him. She missed his voice, his presence. She missed the way he made her feel alive, even if it was in the midst of chaos.
But she couldn't let herself admit it. She couldn't let herself be vulnerable to him again, not after everything he had put her through. All they have shared, even though he behaved like it was nothing to him. She had to stay strong and remind herself of who he really was - a dangerous mafia boss who had kidnapped her and used her for his gain.
And yet, as the hours passed and the loneliness crept in, she couldn't ignore the ache in her heart. She missed him, despite everything. And that scared her more than anything.
The sun was setting in golden hues, casting a warm glow over the sprawling estate as she stood at the edge of the courtyard, her heart pounding in her chest. She was tired of being cooped up in her room all day with nothing except the thoughts of Leonardo. She despised him but still noticed his absence. She took her shower after a long time of sitting on her bed battling with her thoughts, for some reason she wanted to look her best. Since Leonardo left, her dress was just the first thing she laid her hands on.
“I will not let his absence affect me” she motivated herself as she scanned through her wardrobe in search of something suitable to wear.
When she was done with bathing and dressing, she even shampooed her hair, styled her hair, and decided to step outside which she hadn't done since the date night. The cool breeze touched her skin making her body hairs stand. She stretched out in exhaustion and closed her eyes to feel more chills from the surroundings.
“I am just bored that's all, that's far from missing him,” she told herself severally.
She had told herself over and over that she didn't need him, that she was better off without him.
She was still debating on whether she missed him when felt a strong surge of air from above, she looked and saw a jet planning to land not so far from where she stood. She hadn't noticed how big the compound was until now.
As the jet came to a stop, a gust of wind swept across the tarmac, causing Isabella's long hair to flutter around her face. She shifted slightly in response to the sudden change in pressure, her eyes squinting against the breeze. The noise of the engines faded, leaving only the sound of the wind rustling through the nearby trees.
As the private jet touched down on his private runway, her resolve crumbled like sand between her fingers.
And then, there he was – the man who had kept her mind in confusion and played with her emotions. As he stepped out of the jet, his figure silhouetted against the fiery sky, her breath caught in her throat. Her heart skipped a beat, and a rush of emotions flooded through her.
His gaze scanned the courtyard, and when his eyes finally met hers, she felt a surge of joy and longing that she couldn't deny. Her face lit up in a radiant smile, her eyes shining as she bent her head a bit nervously. She watched him make his way towards her, his strides long and purposeful.
As he drew closer, she could see the surprise and warmth in his eyes, and a sense of relief washed over her. And then, he was standing in front of her, his presence towering over her in a way that made her feel small and vulnerable. Without a word, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close in a tight embrace that felt like home.
And in that moment, all her pretenses fell away. Getting back to her senses, Isabella pushed his hands apart releasing herself from his embrace. She took a few steps backward before heading for the front door. She walked as fast as she could, she hated being vulnerable and Leonardo made her feel so.
“Isabella, wait up” Leonardo called out as Isabella headed to the front door.
Isabella banged the door behind her, she stood motionlessly for a while before entering the bathroom, she looked at the mirror, her face was all flushed. Her cheeks were all flushed, and the look on Leonardo's face as he saw her was something Isabella wouldn't forget In a hurry.
" what was he playing at?" she mumbled.
