Chapter 255
Chapter 255
Jasmine's POV
Grace darted across the lawn, chasing butterflies with squeals of delight. Her laughter was the most beautiful music in the world. Louis sat on a wooden bench watching her, his face serene, a peaceful smile playing on his lips.
I walked toward them, carrying a tray with freshly brewed tea. The storm had finally passed, and our lives were returning to normal. The weight I'd carried for so long had lifted, replaced by a sense of quiet contentment I never thought possible.
"Penny for your thoughts?" I asked softly, settling beside Louis on the bench.
He turned to me, his brown eyes filled with love. "Just thinking about how lucky we are. Coming back from the edge of death, finding each other, having this beautiful family."
"We are lucky," I agreed, leaning against his shoulder, feeling the solid warmth of him. "But we paid a heavy price for it."
Louis fell silent, and I knew he was thinking about Eva. True to her word, she had disappeared from our lives, starting a new journey somewhere far away. Occasionally, we'd receive unsigned postcards from different corners of the world – her way of letting us know she was okay without intruding on our lives.
"Do you ever regret it?" Louis asked suddenly, his voice low. "Marrying me? Getting caught up in all this?"
I looked at him, gently tracing the scar on his cheek. "Never. Not for a single second."
He caught my hand and pressed it to his lips. "These four years taught me one thing – time is the most precious gift we have. I don't want to waste a single moment with you and Grace."
"Daddy!" Grace came running toward us, carefully cupping something in her small hands. "Look what I found!"
She opened her palms to reveal a brilliantly colored butterfly resting there, its wings a kaleidoscope of blues and purples that shimmered in the sunlight.
"It's beautiful," Louis said in wonder. "Just like you."
"Can I keep it?" Grace asked hopefully, her eyes wide with excitement.
Louis shook his head gently. "Some beautiful things aren't meant to be kept, sweetheart. They need to fly free."
Grace studied the butterfly thoughtfully, her little face serious as she considered his words. Then, with surprising grace, she opened her hands wide. "Bye-bye, pretty butterfly!"
The butterfly fluttered its wings and took flight, spiraling upward in the warm spring air. I watched it go, feeling strangely emotional at the simple moment.
That night, after Grace had fallen asleep, Louis and I sat on the balcony of our bedroom, gazing up at the star-filled sky. The night was clear, the air still holding a hint of spring's coolness.
"I got a letter from Eva," Louis said quietly, his fingers intertwined with mine. "She's settled in a small village in South America. Helping local children. She seems to have... found peace."
I nodded. "I'm glad for her. Despite everything that happened, she chose the right path in the end."
"She asked about Grace," he continued, his thumb tracing circles on my hand. "Wanted to know if she's healthy and happy."
"She is," I smiled. "Thanks to you coming back to us."
Louis pulled my hand into his lap. "You know, sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't fallen off that cliff. If we hadn't lost those four years..."
"Don't think about 'what ifs,'" I interrupted, squeezing his hand. "What matters is now. Every day we have together."
He nodded, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. "This is to celebrate six months since we found each other again."
I opened the box to find a delicate silver necklace with two intertwined heart pendants. The craftsmanship was exquisite, the silver catching the moonlight.
"It represents our hearts," Louis explained, his voice husky with emotion. "No matter the distance, no matter what happens, they're always connected."
Tears blurred my vision. "It's perfect."
Louis fastened the necklace around my neck, his fingers warm against my skin. Then he kissed me deeply, pulling me close. "I love you, Jasmine. From the first day, until forever."
"I love you too, Louis," I whispered against his lips. "Forever."
Two weeks later, we hosted a small family gathering to officially celebrate Louis's "resurrection" and our reunion. The core members of both the Mitchell and Russo families attended, bringing genuine blessings and joy.
Grace wore her favorite blue dress, proudly introducing her daddy to everyone. Louis never let go of her hand, his eyes filled with such love.
Richard raised his glass for a toast, his voice strong and clear. "Today, we celebrate a miracle. My son has returned from death, and our family is whole again. Life has taught us to cherish every moment, to value every person in our lives."
Marcus stood up next, "For both our families, these years have been filled with trials. But we have proven that true family bonds cannot be destroyed by time or distance."
As the evening drew to a close, Louis led Grace and me to a quiet corner of the garden. In the moonlight, he pointed to the brightest star in the sky.
"See that star?" he asked Grace, who looked up in wonder. "That's the Star of Hope. No matter how dark the night gets, it guides lost people home."
"Like it helped you find us?" Grace asked, her face tilted up to the heavens.
Louis nodded, smiling. "Just like that. Sometimes we face difficulties and challenges, but as long as we remember the star in our hearts, remember the people we love, we'll always find our way back home."
I leaned against Louis's side, feeling grateful and blessed. Our story wasn't perfect – we'd experienced separation, pain, and betrayal. But these trials had made us treasure each other more, value every day we spent together.
"Will we be together forever?" Grace asked with childlike innocence.
Louis pulled us both into his embrace. "As long as we keep each other in our hearts, we'll never be apart."
The night breeze gently rustled through the garden, stars twinkling overhead. In that perfect moment, I knew that whatever the future held for us, we would face it together – as a family, loving each other, never to be separated again.
The journey that had begun with fear and uncertainty had led us here – to love, to family, to home. And in my heart, I knew this was just the beginning of our forever.
THE END
Epilogue:
Hey everyone! Luna here, the author of this book. I just wanted to take a moment to say how incredibly grateful I am to all of you who've stuck with me until this point - your support means everything to me.
This is my debut novel, and what a wild ride it's been! I know it's not perfect (far from it), which makes me even more thankful for your patience. Truth is, I never expected this story to grow so long, so my outline wasn't as solid as it should have been, leading to some messiness in the later chapters. Life also threw me some serious curveballs while I was writing this, and I apologize if parts of it didn't live up to what you were hoping for.
That said, I absolutely adore this book, flaws and all. Finishing it feels like saying goodbye to old friends. It's been equal parts challenging and rewarding. For those of you who weren't fans of where the story went in the later parts, feel free to consider Jasmine's gold medal moment as your personal ending. She's the first female protagonist I've ever written, and I can promise you she's headed for happiness. And don't worry about Louis - he's done facing danger. They're both going to be just fine!
Thanks for coming along on this journey with me. You guys rock! I might revisit and revise parts of this story down the road, and I've already started working on something new. If you're willing to give it a shot, I'd be thrilled to have you along for my next adventure! Above all, I hope everyone finds stories out there that bring them joy.
Wishing you all the best!
