Chapter 87 PROM 1

Chapter 87 PROM 1

~ Elara ~

I couldn't get what Calvin had said to me last night out of my head, and it made me think over my own feelings again.

He said I was all he ever thought about,
and just imagining those words leaving his mouth again brought butterflies to my stomach.

Me, I was all he ever thought about
I don't bother to hide the smile off my face as I continue mopping the floors. It was nearly six in the morning and my shift had already started an hour ago since school was off today for prom.

Luckily, Mrs. Carmen agreed on letting me out early so I could get ready with Charlotte later.

Yawning, I finish up mopping the last section of the large floor before dumping out the dirty water.

I still had a lot of tasks left for the day, so I don't waste any time to finish them.

By 11am I was on the second floor of the house, dusting all the paintings decorating the walls. The house was fairly silent until I walked further down the hall, hearing voices in a room.

By the time I got closer the voices only got louder, and I recognized it as Calvin and his parents. Mr.Conner said they would talk more in the morning with him last night, so I wasn't surprised.

I decide to be respectful and not eavesdrop as I continue walking down the halls. I could barely hear anything anyways from the quiet voices behind the doors.

As I'm turning the corner a loud scream escapes my mouth at someone jumping in front of me. I hold my hand in front of my heart as I glare at Charlotte who was innocently smiling back at me.

"Look who's here!!" She squeals, holding up two huge bags filled with beauty products. I look over the sparkly pink bags before excitement starts to hit in realization.

I was going to prom

"How did you know my shift was done?" I giggle, looking at her with a fake suspicious gaze as I try hiding the smile from creeping onto my face.

"Don't question my knowledge Izzy, It's a secret." She shrugs, and I laugh at the stupid nickname.

"Izzy? Is that my new name?" I say, walking towards the cleaning closet as I stuff everything back in there. Charlotte follows behind me, her eyes moving in every direction as she looks around the mansion.

"Of course it is, now let’s hurry we need time to get through my gorgeous to do list before prom." She says in a hurried tone, grabbing my hand and dragging me towards who knows what.

" Char, you don't even know where my room is!" I laugh as she drags me towards a random hallway.

She suddenly stops in realization before letting go of my hand.

"Sorry, I got too excited." She says, looking at me nervously as if I was mad at her. I take her hand back in mine, relieved that it brings back her smile.

"It's okay Char, we can be excited together. How else will we get through that list of yours?" I reassure her while I walk us the right way back towards my room.

When I first looked at Charlotte's list I knew there would be no way we'd make it through before the dance at 8.

Surprisingly we did.

We'd done our nails, shaved, took showers and exfoliated, washed our hair, fixed our eyebrows, wore face masks, did some facial steaming thing, makeup, and who knows what else in the span of 8 hours.

I can't forget about our one hour beauty nap of course, it was my favorite part.

Now with one hour left, we were both scrambling to get our dresses on and put on jewelry. I had my dark brown hair curled, and Charlotte's blonde hair was perfectly straightened out.

We'd already seen each other in the dresses, but it was different this time since we put so much effort into our hair and makeup.

Charlotte and I both decided on french tips for nails, and silver jewelry since it went best with the pink color of our dresses.

It was half past seven by now, and Charlotte's speaker was blasting Taylor swift as we both sat down on my bed, relieved we finished on time.

"I don't want to go anymore, I'm tired."

She groans, and I nod my head in agreement, already wanting to get out of the dress and take a huge nap in my pajamas.

I felt like a Princess in my dress though, and I loved it.

"Has Wayne seen your dress yet?" Charlotte asks, raising both her eyebrows up with a smirk.

" No, he said to meet him downstairs at 7:40 though, so I guess he'll see soon." I sigh, before widening my eyes at the sudden realization.

" What's wrong?" Charlotte asks, sitting up on her elbows when she sees my nervous state.

"I haven't told him you're coming with us yet." I say, wanting to slap myself for being so stupid.

That is until I remind myself Wayne is a nice guy, and there's no way he'd completely reject Charlotte coming with us.

It wasn't rude bringing her was it?

I hoped not, I'm not sure how any of this prom stuff worked anyways.

"So? I come as a surprise package." She says, shrugging her shoulders.

Charlotte suddenly flops back on the bed, shutting her eyes. " I'm taking a five minute nap." She breathes out as I doze off into my own head.

My thoughts go to Calvin all of a sudden, wondering if he had a prom date too, or if he was even going at all.

I hadn't seen him at all today, except for barely hearing his voice earlier when he was talking with his parents.

I felt bad for just leaving his room last night, but knew it was for the best. I don't think he cared too much anyways about me sleeping next to him.

Plus, I was Wayne’s prom date, not Calvin’s . It just felt wrong sleeping next to him, especially since I'd gotten caught by Mrs. Conner the last time it happened.

The sound of a notification popping up on my phone pulls me away from the short daze I'd just had, and I look down to see a text message from Wayne .

My parents keep trying to take pictures, help me.

A small smile peaks on my face until I start to feel the nerves rising in my stomach. I loved Mrs.Conner, but I was terrified knowing Mr. Conner was down there too after hearing him speak of killing whoever it was he killed last night.

"Char, we should head down now." I say, shaking her shoulders gently. She opens her eyes slowly before groaning and forcing herself up.

While she's half asleep she runs a brush through her hair once more since she'd just laid on it, then suddenly perks up, her energy coming right back in seconds.

" See, five minutes works like a charm."

She says, the excitement rolling off her voice as we finally get out of my room.

We walk upstairs, out of the maids section and head towards the front of the house.

My stomach wasn't helping me as we got closer, and I could feel a terrible pressure growing worse from my nerves.

As soon as we get there I notice Wayne turning his gaze towards me, his striking blue eyes bright as he walks up to me.

Somehow his presence comforted my nerves, and for a moment I forget about his dad being a killer.

" You look beautiful, Elara." He smiles, and for a moment his face holds joy until his eyes glance towards Charlotte in confusion.

"Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself."

I smile back, hoping my compliment would distract him from the fact I hadn't told him Charlotte would be coming.
