Chapter 77 BETWEEN THEM
~Elara~
I wasn't sure if I should tell Wayne it's really not as good as he probably thinks it is in Riverford. He probably hasn't seen a single crime in his neighborhood, which wasn't surprising.
"Andy's Burgers." I say, eyeing Calvin who wasn't paying attention to the conversation.
"Andy's burgers." Wayne mumbles to himself as he types it into the maps app.
The sound of the car turning on reaches my ears and I sit back in my seat comfortably, knowing the drive would be a little long.
My eyes widen when Calvin suddenly turns his head towards me, causing me to shift nervously in my seat.
"Put your seatbelt on."
"O...oh." I mumble, stumbling to clip my seatbelt on as Wayne starts driving. Calvin turns back around when he sees my seatbelt fully on.
I let a breath out when his eyes are no longer on me.
This would be a long night.
" Here we are." Wayne says, parking the car in the sketchy looking parking lot. There was overgrown grass in the lot, and litter scattered in nearly every corner.
The open sign light kept flickering on and off, making the place more nostalgic to me. I knew Wayne and Calvin probably saw this place as weird, but it was normal for me.
I missed going here
"It's not too bad." Wayne says as we walk out of the car. The parking lot, as terrible as it looked, was packed with cars.
The Lamborghini stood out from the rest of the old, beat up cars. Which only brought more unwanted attention towards us.
Just admit it's fucking ugly." Calvin mumbles, finally getting out of the car as he looks around the place.
Wayne glares at Calvin before turning back towards me.
"It looks like people were exaggerating on the crime everywhere rumor though-" Wayne stops talking when a car on the road swerves from lane to lane as two cop cars chase it down with their sirens booming.
" Maybe we should get inside." I laugh nervously, quickly walking ahead towards the door.
Wayne opens the door for me and I walk into the packed tiny building. Before Calvin can get in too Wayne closes the door on him. I watch as Calvin clenches his jaw in annoyance before opening the door again.
It seemed like all eyes were on us when we walked in. Probably because of Wayne and Calvin.
They'd been dressed top to bottom in expensive clothing, as usual.
They didn't look like they were from Riverford, it was obvious.
The place looked the same as it always had been.
Other than some new workers, everything was familiar to me.
We finally sit at a table. Sadly the chairs were so close to each other my shoulders were nearly brushing their own as they sat on either side of me.
Calvin was leaned back in his chair, his arms crossed over each other. His eyes find mine and I quickly look away, drinking the iced water we were given to distract myself.
"This place must be popular." Wayne says as he looks around at the full restaurant.
Most of the customers were older and would come here as regulars, sometimes there'd be a family or two.
Most people in Riverford couldn't afford to feed their family at a restaurant, even if it was cheap to other people.
" When you try the burger you'll see why it's so popular." I smile, excited as I look down at the old menu in front of me.
"Look, they even have pink milkshakes, isn't it cool." I say, pointing at the picture of the pink milkshake to them. When I was younger I always wanted to get it but I had to either choose that or a filling meal.
Obviously I'd chosen the filling meal all the time.
I never really knew when my next meal would be back then.
Calvin only watches me curiously, the annoyed look on his face instantly leaving.
" So three pink milkshakes and three of the classic burgers." The old woman repeats as she writes the order down on a notepad.
I'm not sure how, but Calvin and Wayne both decided they also wanted a pink milkshake.
" Yes ma'am, I appreciate it." I smile, handing her the menus. The woman smiles back down at me, glancing at Calvin and Wayne before walking to take another tables order.
" Have you had the milkshake before?" Wayne asks me as a waitress walks out with three bright colored glasses filled with the pink drink, whipped cream, and pink sprinkles.
I shake my head no, too focused on looking at the pretty drink to actually reply to him.
When the waitress puts my drink down I watch it with wide eyes.
I never thought I'd actually get it one day.
"Let's try it at the same time." I say, laughing when I see Calvin who always looked so intimidating holding a sparkly pink drink.
Calvin looks up at me, a weird look in his eyes as he just watches me laughing at him. I don't miss the smile that almost makes it to his face as he looks at me.
"Ready?" I say, looking between both of them with my cup held up ready to take a drink. When they both nod their heads we all take a drink at the same time.
It nearly felt like my eyes lit up as I drank the milkshake. It tasted like strawberry shortcake.
" I knew it would taste could." I mumble to myself as I take another drink.
"You're almost halfway done with it already." Wayne laughs, looking over at me.
I feel myself flushing red when I look down at my nearly empty cup now.
"I don't like it." Calvin says, pushing his cup towards me.
" Take it."
Ilook up at him with wide eyes before taking the cup.
" Really? Are you sure." I say, looking down at his cup that still looked full.
"I'm sure, Lara ."
"Thank you." I smile at him.
"It tastes good to me." Wayne says, shrugging his shoulders.
" Doesn't it?" I reply, finishing my glass before taking the drink Calvin gave to me and drinking from his own.
I could feel both of their eyes on me and I look up at them, confused at what they were staring at.
" Did you not want to change the straw, he drank from that." Wayne says, pointing towards the cup.
I furrow my eyebrows together before shaking my head no. I didn't know it was weird to do that until I thought about it a little more.
Oh
My head turns towards Calvin only to catch him with a smirk that leaves his face almost as quick as it appeared. I quickly take his straw out before putting my own back in.
"I...I forgot." I say, trying to control my red face.
Thankfully our food comes out before they say anything else about it.
By the time we finished dinner it was darker outside and most of the cars had already left the parking lot. Calvin and Wayne didn't talk to each other much, but it was still the longest I'd seen them together.
When we're all back in the car Wayne’s phone starts ringing. My eyes move towards the phone now in his hand, noticing Charlottes name popping up.
