Chapter 68 THE BIRTHDAY PT 1
~ Elara ~
There wasn't a single moment I hadn't been doing something. Everyone was preparing for the party tonight, it all had to be perfect.
It seemed like we were preparing for the royal family to arrive. I wasn't shocked at how extravagant they were making the party, considering they were billionaires.
I hadn't seen Wayne all day after what happened last night. He was about to kiss me and I was about to let it happen. Did I know why? No.
" Elara!" Mrs. Carmen yells my name and I pop my head out from behind the flowers I had been preparing to put in vases for the tables.
Mrs. Carmen had been walking around like a mad man the entire day making sure nothing would get messed up.
I was scared I did something wrong, I'd already seen three other maids getting scolded today by her.
" Yes?" I reply cautiously, wiping my hands on my apron before standing up and rushing up to her. There were maids moving in every direction around us as she stood with her clipboard.
"I need to pick up some stuff from the store for tonight, your coming with me to help carry bags." She says before writing something down.
" Really? I can come with you?" I smile as I start walking behind her.
"Can you manage holding the bags?" She questions, and I quickly nod my head, moving to walk beside her.
" Great, then we better hurry."
Mrs. Carmen had us stop at three stores that already had the stuff prepared for us to pick up.
I sigh as I sit at a table with Mrs. Carmen and all of the stuff placed beside me. She had to take an important phone call so we took a break before heading out.
I let my eyes wander around the mall from my seat, watching as the obviously rich families walked with bags of designer in their hands.
I stop my eyes at a small gift shop before biting my lip in contemplation. I look over at Mrs.Carmen who was still busy on the phone before getting up and walking towards the store.
I open the door to see only a couple other customers inside, looking over all the neatly placed items.
My hands brush over a snow globe with a tiny football player throwing a ball standing inside. A small smile covers my face as I shake the globe, watching as the fake snow fills the glass.
I sigh, knowing some snow globe wasn't a good present to give a billionaire. I hold it in my hand, something in me telling me to just get it for him.
I'm about to walk up to the cashier until I freeze at something sitting in a glass case that catches my eyes.
I tilt my head to the side as I look at it carefully.
Pursing my lips together I let out a breath before walking up to the cashier.
"Are you ready to go?" Mrs. Carmen asks me as she pushes her phone into her purse. Her eyes glance down at the bag in my hand in confusion.
" Yes, sorry Mrs. Carmen I just needed to make a quick stop." I utter, grabbing the rest of the bags.
Hopefully they like the gifts
The gold decorated room was packed with people dressed top to bottom in expensive clothing.
There was a live orchestra in the corner, playing beautiful music. It all felt like some movie, and I got to see it all.
I had no idea who most of the guests were, the only ones I'd recognized were the faces from school which I had tried my best to avoid.
Especially Leslie
I felt pathetic around everyone.
My eyes drop down when a group of gorgeous women walk by in fancy dresses.
I feel my gaze follow them as I look at their perfectly done hair, their shiny nails, and perfect figures.
I bite my lip as I look down at myself. My dirty maid uniform, my messy tied back hair and plain nails.
I wondered what it was like to feel like them, feel so beautiful.
" Hey! Can you not hear me, I asked for another drink!" An older man spits at me. I stumble in my spot before quickly grabbing a drink and handing it to the man who was giving me a dirty look.
"I'm sorry sir." I mumble, bowing my head down but he just curses under his breath before walking away.
I sigh as I adjust the cups on my tray before walking to another spot to hand out drinks.
" How can he be so handsome." A girl sighs out before everyone's eyes are turned towards the same direction.
I scrunch my eyebrows together before turning to see none other then Ace walking in, dressed in a black suit with a white undershirt. He had his blonde hair pushed back and a smile on his face as he walked into the house with his friends.
"Where's the other one?" Another girl whispers. I couldn't help but listen to the conversation, I had nothing else to do anyways.
Oh Great
The smiles on the girls faces are quickly wiped away when Wayne walks by them and stands in front of me.
I look at the girls who had been glaring at me before turning towards Wayne . " D..do you want a drink?" I ask nervously, holding up a glass All I had to do tonight was stand around and give out drinks, it got quite boring after a bit.
" You mean Calvin? Who knows if he'll even come." The girl says as she gawks at Wayne who was still walking through the crowd.
His eyes suddenly find my own, and as soon as he spots me a smile reaches his face. I only watch him as he walks away from his friends, going straight towards me.
" Oh my gosh Becky he's coming this way!" The girl screeches, and I look over at them.
I looked towards Wayne, Hopefully he just takes the drink and leaves before these girls try executing me.
" No Happy Birthday wishes to your favorite person?" Wayne chuckles, taking the drink from my hand.
I look up at him, my eyes caught in his own. Who cares about what those girls think, there was nothing wrong with Wayne and I talking.
" Well, you haven't gotten my favorite person title yet, but I guess I'll say happy birthday." I smile, looking down at my pocket holding his wrapped gift.
Should I give it to him now?
" Yet? Is there something specific I have to do to get that title?" He asks, looking down at me with the same look he always gave me.
It was a mix of happiness and something else I couldn't really understand.
My eyes shift when I suddenly see Calvin walking into the house with his hands in his pants pockets, a stone cold look on his face.
It felt like the tension in the room only grew bigger by his presence.
He wore a completely black suit, the black undershirt slightly unbuttoned, his hair messy, and a new silver piercing on his right ear I'd never seen before.
It was the first time I'd seen him look so cleaned up, other than the healing cuts on his face.
I couldn't deny how handsome he looked in the suit.
His icy eyes trail over to mine as he walks in with no care in the world. There were multiple people coming up to talk to him, every single one of them got ignored.
I clear my throat, quickly moving my focus back towards Wayne .
" Well, first you have to take your birthday present." I smile, holding out the gift wrapped in light blue wrapping paper towards him.
" You got me a present?" He laughs, taking the gift in his hand as he looks over at me.
I nod my head, trying to ignore the feeling of a pair of cold eyes burning through the side of my head.
"M.maybe you should just open it later though." I blurt out before he can open the gift. I was scared of seeing his disappointed look when seeing my pathetic choice of a gift.
" Wayne come on we're all hanging out over there."
Wayne’s friends say as a group of them come up to us, looking down at me weirdly.
" Hey, I'll talk to you later okay?" Wayne says as he gets dragged away by his friends and I nod my head, going back to serving drinks.
I couldn't help as my eyes trailed back over to Calvin, my eyes frozen at the scene in front of me.
I feel a sting of jealousy spike in me as I watch a group of girls my age, who looked more like models than anything, smiling up at Calvin as they talked about something.
Calvin just stands there, not paying any attention to the girls as he downs some alcoholic drink that was only meant to be served to the adults over 21.
How did he even manage to get that?
My eyes widen when Calvin spots me looking at him. He still had that angry look on his face as he looked back at me, the same one from yesterday when he'd interrupted Wayne and I.
I quickly turn my head away, my hands gripping the tray of drinks tighter as I walk towards the bathroom for a quick break.
I sigh as I put the tray down before walking towards the women's restroom. Before I can make it to the door my arm was grabbed from behind.
I stand there frozen, not knowing why I felt so weird, like I had just cheated on an exam and got caught.
I move my hand to where my heart is, listening to how fast it'd been beating.
All because of him
My eyes move down to the gift I had bought him earlier. I hold it in my hand, a sigh leaving my mouth.
I was too scared to give it to him and kept making excuses.
After using the restroom I walk back towards the party, grabbing my tray of drinks.
I drown out all the conversations around me as I focus on listening to the orchestra.
My eyes gaze around the party before they stop on Wayne who was there.
It took both of them to get him off of her
" What the fuck were you thinking? Why are you hitting a woman?!" Wayne yells in Calvin’s face as he pushes him back.
I watch in horror, until I catch sight of Calvin’s face. He held a familiar look in his eyes, a familiar look of fear, anger, and pain.
The same one I had when Roger would touch me, the same one I had when no one helped me but only watched
His eyes completely ignore Wayne while he watches in confusion as the woman gets helped by everyone around her.
He looked absolutely shattered
A large crowd was now formed around them, people holding their hands to their mouth in shock at the now bloody face of the woman.
Calvin’s jaw clenches as he completely ignores his parents trying to calm him down. I watch as he pushes past Wayne, walking through the crowd that moved aside as soon as he stepped by.
I furrow my eyebrows together before throwing my tray onto a random table and pushing past everyone to get to the front door Calvin had just barged through.
