Chapter 57 A HEART BEAT AWAY

Chapter 57 A HEART BEAT AWAY

~ Elara ~

" What are you two doing in here?"

At that moment it felt like the tension in the room had gotten ten times thicker, and my closeness proximity to Calvin probably wasn't helping the situation.

Never would I have thought I'd ever be this close to someone so terrible, yet here I was nearly on his lap.

I moved my focus to Wayne who had been standing next to the doorframe, his eyebrows furrowed as he looked between Calvin and i awkward position.

Everywhere was still silent after Wayne asks the question. I was hoping Calvin would answer but he didn't seem like he'd say anything with the way his eyes were burning into the side of my head.

"N..nothing I just fell" I say, cutting through the silence as I frantically get off of Calvin’s lap. I feel Calvin’s dark gaze on me as i move back to my seat, trying my best to calm down my nerves and get rid of the red tint plastered all over my cheeks.

"It's almost one in the morning why are you in here with him anyways?" Wayne continues to question as he walks further into the library. This time I notice the slight eye roll from Calvin who had been leaned back in his chair now.

I glanced at Calvin, hoping he'd say something, anything to make this situation less awkward than it already was.

My gaze moves back to Wayne when I give up on Calvin, trying to think of a way to clear things up.

" W..well we got assigned a project together, w..we're just working on it that's all." I say, biting my lip nervously at my answer.

I wondered why Wayne cared so much, maybe he wanted to use the library and we were taking his space?

" Your teacher assigned you with the stupidest one in class." Wayne mutters under his breath, his jaw clenched. I swallow the lump in my throat at the growing tension in the room, wanting to just run away.

" Don't be jealous I'm not interested in your scraps." Calvin scoffs suddenly, his cold eyes burning into Wayne whose face all of a sudden turns flustered.

Scraps? What was that supposed to mean?

Wayne looks at me nervously before glaring at Calvin. " I wasn't talking to you."

He scowls, and I look down as I start playing with my fingers nervously.

They wouldn't fight or anything would they?

" Elara," Wayne says all of a sudden, and I looked up into his blue eyes that seemed slightly darker today, almost missing how his face looked, his voice.

" Yes?" I mutter, glancing over at Calvin who had been burning daggers into my skull as If I was committing a crime for talking to Wayne .

They really did hate each other, which only made me more curious as to what could've happened between them.

" Let me know if he does anything." Wayne grumbles, his hands in his pockets.

"I..I will." I hesitantly respond, noticing the slight smile from Wayne .

What would Calvin do to me? Would he touch me without my permission, like Roger and the men from the club? Would he try killing me? Wouldn't it be too late by the time I told Wayne anyways?

Great, I was overthinking again.

Wayne nods his head at my response before turning around and hesitantly leaving the library, leaving an awkward silence between me and Calvin.

I move my gaze towards him, only to see he was already looking at me with a curious look. There was something else swirling in his dark eyes, anger, confusion, annoyance.

It all seemed pretty normal for Calvin, but this time it felt different.

"P...please don't kill me." I whisper, my eyes moving down to the black blade he still held, spinning around tauntingly between his large fingers.

Calvin raises an eyebrow, his eyes following mine still locked in on the blade.

A slight smirk appears on his face, leaving just as fast as it came.

A short gasp escapes my mouth when his leg suddenly pushes my chair closer to him, the arm not holding the blade moving behind my chair as I look up at Calvin, terrified at the position he'd locked me in.

He looked angry.

My breath is heavy as I watch him move the sharp blade close to my neck, his face so close to my own I could feel his minty breath fan against my cheek.

The only sound other than my pounding heart and heavy breaths were the fire place, cracking every now and then as it lit up the library.

The light of the fire gleamed against Calvin’s face, lighting up his already dark eyes.

I shut my eyes in fear, hoping he'd just leave me alone and we could finish the project.

It's not until the cold metal of his blade moves against my neck ever so slightly that goosebumps rise on every inch of my body and my heart rate only grows faster.

It barely scratches the surface of my skin, but I feel him move it in a half moon pattern before moving to the next part of my neck and doing some sort of other pattern.

" W.what are you d..doing." I barely breath out as he continues to move the blade against my skin. It didn't hurt me, only tickled as it barely grazed my sensitive skin.

"Wayne likes you." Is all he says and I furrow my brows together as i peak my eyes open, this time watching him as he stares at my neck, the blade still moving in whatever pattern it was he was doing.

Was this a joke? Wayne could never like me, and why would he say this at this moment? One wrong move and my neck would be sliced open.

" W. what are you talking about." I breathe out, going tense when his movement with the blade stops and he flickers his eyes back to my eyes.

"Don't be fucking stupid, it's obvious." He grits out, watching me with annoyance burning in his eyes.

Why was he even talking about this?!
"P...please just leave me alone." I whisper out, my eyes watering at the thought of the blade being so close to my neck.

He could kill me at any second.

His jaw clenches as he looks into my watery eyes, the blade now gone from my neck.

I breathe out in relief before looking up to see Calvin out of his chair and walking out of the library.

We didn't even get to finish the project, now I'd have to ask him again tomorrow, the last day before the project is due.

I sit there in silence for who knows how long, my hand on my neck tracing where Calvin had moved his blade against, and my brain trying to figure out why he was acting so weird.

Why would Calvin even think Wayne likes me?

The thought alone confused me, yet it didn't make me mad either which is what made me even more twisted up.

Did I want Wayne to like me?
