Chapter 95 Selene at the door
selene at the door
Selene!!
I immediately regretted opening the door. The last person I wanted to see was standing in my front. Her sharp eyes glittered suspiciously in the low light. Her body posture screamed that she is ready for war.
“What are you doing here?” I growled, not hiding how annoyed I was.
But then what i didn't expect is for her to inhale sharply, her gaze flickering down in a sad way.
I hesitated, just for a moment, but it was enough for somebody like my sister. Taking my momentary lapse, she slipped inside, brushing past my shoulder before I could stop her.
“Fuck me” I face-palm myself, angry at myself for falling for such stupid lame act.
Selene's sharp eyes were locked on the bed, specifically On Milo, my Milo.
“What are you doing here?” I repeated high on alert, this time my alpha aura spilling out.
Selene’s expression changed from surprise to shock before it settled on anger. I watched all this happen with a rigid and tended body ready to lung if pull came to shove.
“This is what you’re doing?” she hissed, whirling back to point at me, eyes blazing in fury “Fucking a pet? While your men are downstairs waiting on you? While Alpha Kael is still in this house?”
For a moment, I faltered, before it hit me.
“Fuck!!” I cursed a hundred times in the past few hours. I could hear Dax snickering at the background
This night was a goodbye party in honor of Alpha kael!!
Yes, I had come here to tell Milo to prepare. That was the plan… until I saw Milo seated on my bed, wide eyed, and biting his lips in nervousness. He had looked so innocent and so fragile. That everything else had flown through the window. And before I knew it, everything went south…, maybe a good type of south, my lips tugged into an evil smirk but then I felt a slight move, before pain bloomed from my ribs region where Selen punched at me mercilessly.
I doubled over slightly, but bit back the grunt that wanted to escape my throat. I refused to wake Milo.
“You are pathetic,” she spat, her voice trembling with anger. “Don’t tell me you’re fantasizing about this pet in front of me.”
I straightened, forcing my face into a blank stare. Although my ribs still sting from her blow that might have fractured some bones. “You know nothing, Selene," I bit back
“Oh, I know so many things about you, little brother”
“Don’t even start…” I warned low, but the bitch continued.
“I am your elder sister, and I know how you are when you want something. You couldn’t hide it then, what makes you think you can now?.”
I gritted my teeth in anger, I was practically running on my last control. “You of all people should be ashamed of what you just said.”
“What is it brother, did I touch your soft spot? I am merely stating an obvious fact. That if you were not so invested in this…, you would hear the gossip behind your back.” She fired back, her glare matching mine in intensity.
“I have watched you stare at him when you think nobody is looking. How do you defend him no matter what… tell me, lil brother, since when does a pet sleep on their master’s bed?”
Since I started to care for him, I wanted to say but it stuck in my throat.
Her words cut deeper than it was meant to. I
Felt a snarl rising at the back of my throat. My whole body tensed tightly like a drawn bow. “I was going to put him in his cage,” I snapped. The lie tasted bitter in my mouth.
Selene arched a brow, her lips curling. “Liar.”
“Don’t interfere in my business,” I barked, stepping close, letting my aura crackle between us.
But she didn’t flinch. Instead, her eyes softened in a way that twisted the knife deeper. “Your whole court are downstairs waiting for you, yet here you are defending a…him
A low growl that rumbled in my chest stopped her from saying her initial words.
“You are slipping, Damon,” she whispered. “Is this about him… or about the lover you lost?”
That did it. Her words struck something buried deep, something I fought to keep chained. The air instantly dropped. Dax flashes in my eyes, ready to come out.
Selene realised that she had gone far. she hesitated taking a step back, fear flashing in her face, but as fast as it had come, it was gone, her face hardened again. “My eyes are on you, brother,” she said coldly, turning on her heel. “Don’t make me regret letting this go.”
The door shut behind her as she ran faster than the bullet out of the room. But I hardly paid her attention.
I stood there, chest heaving, the ghost of her words gnawing at me. When I turned back, Milo shifted slightly in his sleep, mumbling something incoherent before settling down again.
I clenched my fists hard to the extent I heard a cracking sound, my heart bled on the thought of going to wake milo up.
My sister's words flashed across my mind, “you are slipping…”
“Fuck this!”
I cursed at no one in particular, my wolf growled in disapproval but I was already moving towards the bed.
Maybe my sister was right, i was slipping off, that just from a few days of coming here, she had already seen me slip numerous times.
I couldn’t afford to slip once more, not when my whole pack was looking up to me, their Alpha, for their survival,
Definitely not in front of Alpha kael, and most especially…
Never in front of my sister, again.
I clenched my jaw tightly and shoved the warmth that stirred in my chest back into the pit of my stomach. To close the distance from the door to where milo felt like eternity to me.
This wasn’t supposed to happen. I am not supposed to feel like… he mattered…
“Milo.” My voice cut through the silence, I cringed at the sound of my voice but went on nevertheless.
He stirred, mumbling, pressing closer into the sheets as if trying to escape the sound.
I forced anger into my voice . “Wake up!”
His lashes fluttered, purple eyes hazy with sleep met mine. Something flickered inside those bright orbs, trust, confusion, or maybe hope. I felt my stomach twist like a knife was plunged deep inside my gut.
“We are leaving,” I said flatly. “There is a party tonight. You have five minutes to prepare and get ready.”
He blinked, grudgingly wiping away sleep from his eyes. The little action looked so cute that I saw myself fighting the urge to damn everything and just cuddle him. “ Huh? What party?”
The question was innocent, but that was the problem. It was too innocent. “ Are you questioning your master?” I growled. My temper flared up instantly, fueled by irritation.
“Noo…I…”
“You don’t ask questions. You do as you are told.”
His body stiffened, the carefreeness and familiarity vanishing immediately from his face.
“And from now on…” I let the venom drip into my words, even when all I wanted to do was get on my knees and apologize to him. “...you must only sleep in your cage. Don’t ever forget what you are.”
The silence that followed after my words made it worse than I ever intended. Milo’s eyes widened, I could see his tired brain try to process everything that happened. shock flash across his face, together with the realisation of the meaning of my words.
I watched as his face darkened into something dark and cold, his once bright eyes dulled. He bit down hard on his slightly plump lips that I so much want to devour right now. his jaw was ticking as he looked at me like he was trying to hold himself from bursting into tears.
I looked away before my resolve crumbled into dust. “Get up!”
He jerked to his feet like a frightened chicken, stumbling clumsily on his two legs in the process.
My heart cutted, instinctively my body reacted, reaching out to catch him, but I caught myself just in time, my hands freezing in the air awkwardly, before it dropped uselessly at my side. The sound of the bathroom door slamming against the wall echoed through my troubled head.
I exhaled harshly, dragging a hand through my hair. My chest ached with different emotions I couldn't name, dax continued to whimper inside my head.
I clenched my teeth, pushing all the distractions away
This was the right thing. It had to be. Milo was just a pet, and it was nothing more.
Mate or not… we could never work.
Never will.
