Chapter 82 To prove yourself
Chapter 82: to prove yourself
Milo pov
I had overheard gossips of a place deeper within the training ground, reserved for those the pack feared like plagues. The shadow members.
I have heard different horrifying stories about different encounters with one of them. Some said that all of them have shed not less than thousands of bloods on their hands.
my body instinctively backed away from the door, as the stories flashed through my head.
They are the pack secret machine, a time bomb of the pack. A whisper even said that the establishment of the shadow unit is the reason the council has not erased all the Unrighteous packs from the surface of the earth.
A shudder ran down my spine. If the council was afraid of them. Only God knows what will be my faith now as I was being dragged by Damon right into their den.
Damon had a smile that made me want to turn back and bolt away, before I could move, the fortified heavy doors swung open in a slow intimidating way.
My breath hitched. I froze in my steps, unable to take a step in as hairs on my skin stood erect, the feeling of danger became stronger than anything I have ever felt.
A wide chamber stretched out further than my eyes could see. The stone walls were lined with different assortment of weapons ranging from curved extra sharp blades that gleamed under the dime light. longbows, warhammers that looked heavy enough to split a man in two. The ground itself littered with marks that looked like claw marks. But that was not all
Dozens of young warriors moved in perfect synch and coordination. Very few were in the center stage, sparring with each other with lethal looking swords. That was a lot different from the wooded stakes the other units make use of. Any slightest mistake would cause the death of one of them. While the other remaining people were engrossed on their own personal training and meditations as if nothing else mattered.
The noise from our footsteps caught their attention, like hawks, each of them stopped whatever they were doing to look towards us. And they didn’t hide their scrutiny and disgust in their gaze. I felt it crush down on me like an invisible hand, pressing against my lungs. Their combined aura was like a great heavy sword that made itself towards me.
I cringed, turning in my wobbling knees, preparing to bolt out of the door, but a hand stopped me right on my track.
“Don't run away from your destiny little wolf.” Damon smiled before dragging me beside him. I shook my head desperately, lior clawed at my chest in irritation at the intense sharp pressure that descended on me.
But then Damon’s deep growl tore through the thick tension. It rolled through the air like thunder, shaking the walls, and like a shield, it protected me from their sharp aura that could kill even an elder.
The suffocating weight lifted instantly. I suddenly felt like I could breathe.
Another growl had them snapping back to whatever they were doing, no one bothered me again. Like I no longer existed
The tension lifted, I sucked in a deep breath, shame burned in my face, at how relieved I was for his protection.
But I didn't have time to look relieved before I was dragged towards the center stage.
“Training starts. Now.”
It was harsher than before, more brutal that anything Damon had made me do. His strikes were sharper, and his command continued to roll through my body, as I felt all my nerves and muscles pushed to the limit.
“Focus,” Damon snapped, giving me a hard jab that knocked the air out of me.
I felt my pride brokened, I panted like a mad dog. But I could feel the hesitation, my thoughts continued to swing back to the crowd. I could still hear the sound of the bloodthirsty crowd. I couldn’t stop hearing the cries of the men fighting to the death for my blood.
And Damon saw the crack in me.
He stopped. His silence made me snap out of thoughts. meeting the hot blaze of his eyes. That pressed me to the ground.
But he turned, my heart sank inside my stomach, when he turned to the warriors ringing the chamber.
“Who wants to prove themselves?”
Silence followed his words, but I could see it in their faces, their hardened faces for once showed interest.
“Then listen carefully.” Damon’s gaze swept over them before settling back on me. “This one…” he gestured to me, “...is still learning. But if any of you can defeat him in a match… I will personally grant you a one time chance to train with me, your commander.”
