Chapter 40 Training 3

Chapter 40 Training 3
Chapter 40: Training 3

Milo pov

My breath hitched, but James continued his explanation.

“...Their activities are unknown, only to the members. And they don’t take recruits like the others. They choose their own members, and in the history of our pack, they are always the smallest. Currently, we only have five members throughout the whole pack.”

His voice continued to echo inside me, as l followed him like a lost puppy, my mind suddenly going to the mysterious group of wolves I had met outside. Something kept on paining me that the pain was not a coincidence…

We entered another hidden room with a steel door. The walls were also carved with symbols and sigils. The doors locked with a huge bang.

I almost jumped out of my skin as I realised that I was suddenly alone with James, who had a dark look on his face.

James finally looked at me, and I gasped, backing away in fear. As I stared cautiously at him, he had suddenly changed from a normal warrior into a sudden, dangerous feral beast.

“This place doesn’t care what you were back home, Milo. Rank, bloodline, title, it means nothing here. All that matters… is whether you learn to survive or you die trying to survive.”

My eyes widened as he disappeared from my vision. and a sudden feeling of danger fell upon me. And before I knew it, I saw him appear in my front, sharp claws glinting in the dim light.

My brain blanked.

Everything seemed to slow down around me, as I saw death before my very eyes. If I didn't dodge and with the speed James was going, I would be impaled before I could even say “boo.”

“Move, now!!”

Lior screamed with panic in my head. And as if I was pressed play, I moved, barely escaping from being awkward.

“What the f…” You are… awake?” I whispered inside my mind, It had been a while since he spoke with me.

I was saying, but James moved again. This time, he turned, using the momentum of his earlier stunt to add more speed to his attack. My heart pounded madly in my chest. As any atom of mistake means that I am a dead meat.

“Turn to the right” Lior, my wolf voice came again, and like a robot acting on manual instruction, my legs moved, slightly to the right, I heard a cracking sound from my waist, as I did a dangerous manoeuvre I didn't believe was possible at the dim minute.

I watched with horror, as James, a seasoned warrior, missed two times and stumbled to a stop, turning back to face me with shock and something else I couldn’t recognize.

“I am…”But the apology that was already in my mouth died off immediately.

I touched my lips in shock. I couldn’t believe that I had it in me to even evade James' deadly attack.

But when I was having a mental breakdown, the culprit responsible for shattering my foundations, had his mouth curled into a smile, and his eyes continued to twinkle like a kid that was presented with a Christmas present.

“Now that we are talking.” James said, bringing himself together as he flashed me a deadly grin. “The human mind is like a tight elastic band. The more you stretch to the limit. The more your true potential is being squeezed out.

I sensed dread, backing away as my eyes pleaded silently.

He reached for his back, pulling out a long black wooden sword from his back, and my heart skipped a bit. As I saw the lights that continued to dance in James' eyes.

This is where you will be trained,” he said. “We don’t coddle here. Your bones might break. You’ll bleed. You might even die in the process. But in this world, to survive calls for desperate measures.”

His tone was flat, almost like he was reciting a poem. “Now pick a weapon.” He threw me a wooden sword that clattered to the ground as I tried to catch it.

Today, there will be no fanciful tricks or strategies or any legwork to learn. It's all about survival and instincts…”

He charged, like a mad bull.

The next minutes, or was it hours?, were a blur of agony.

James didn’t train me. He broke me in many ways that I didn't know my body could be broken. I had lost count of the countless times my back was slammed against the cold steel. times I was hitted by the hilt of his sword. All my limbs were screaming for rest.

My throat burned with taste. I could hardly produce any spit. My knees were about to give up, from hours of standing up and defending, with my life against James' insistent barrage of attacks.

At one point, I couldn’t breathe. My knees hit the floor, so exhausted. My vision flickered.

“Get up!”

I looked around. The voice hadn’t come from James…

“Get up, Milo.”

It took me a while to know that it was my wolf Lior. That was talking to me.

“Something is wrong in the air.” he growled.

“What do you mean?” I thought back as I staggered to my feet, almost getting hit by James' sword, who was waiting for me impatiently.

The dread in my chest I had felt sometime ago increased. I opened my mouth to ask for a break from James, but a punch landed squarely in my ribs.

I gasped loudly, feeling the air getting knocked out of my lungs, as it sent me crashing to the ground.

“...lesson number two. Don't ever be distracted when…”

His voice trailed off.

“Something is wrong in the air...”

I staggered, blinking. “What?” I muttered.

“It’s not yet clear. But I can sense something dark is in the air. Can’t you feel it?”

Before I could react, James suddenly stopped. His shoulders tensed as a small frown etched on his face as he heavily sniffed the air. And as if by a coincidence, a blaring doubt echoed throughout the air.

My heart clenched, and James stiffened. His eyes had a look of urgency and panic.

He turned to me. “Stay here. Don’t move until I return. That's an order.”

“Wait…what happened?. Is the master safe?” I asked, standing up, but the cold feeling of being alone enveloped me,

But James hadn’t answered. He was already gone.

The sound of the double doors swinging up and down echoed through the silent dim room. showing that James had already sped off the God knows where.

“ I was now alone.”

But I could still hear the faint, low growl of my wolf in my head. He was nervous and whimpering.

“He’s not safe.” The voice continued to mumble in my head. and without thinking or giving it a second chance, I moved out of the door.

Running straight into the chaos that was happening.

“Orders be damned”
