Chapter 252 Recovery and rebuilding
Recovery and Rebuilding

Milo's POV

The first week after my return was a blur of examinations, rest, and gradual adjustment to being alive again.

Daphne had practically moved into our chambers, monitoring my vital signs with an intensity that would have been amusing if it wasn't so necessary. My body was healing, but slowly… too slowly for my liking, despite my remarkable healing abilities. Although Daphne insisted it was remarkable I was healing at all.

"You died, Milo," she reminded me for what felt like the hundredth time as she checked my pulse. "Your heart stopped. Your soul left your body. The fact that you are sitting here complaining about being bedridden is nothing short of miraculous."

I sighed, shifting restlessly against the pillows Damon had stacked behind me. "I feel useless. The pack is rebuilding, and I am stuck in bed."

"The pack is rebuilding because you gave them a future," Damon said from his position by the window, where he was rocking Ezra gently. "They can manage a few weeks without you micromanaging everything."

Over the past week, Damon became fiercely protective of my recovery time. He rarely left our chambers, conducting all pack business from our room and turning away anyone who tried to visit for too long. At first, everything was overwhelming and foreign. Now, I was beginning to understand what people do for those they love.

"Tell me what happened," I said quietly. "While I was gone.”

Daphne and Damon exchanged glances. Finally, Daphne sighed and set down her instruments.

"you were dead for two full days," she began, her clinical tone not quite hiding the emotion underneath. "We tried everything… healing magic, herbs, even calling in healers from other territories. Nothing worked. Your body was alive in the technical sense… it refused to give up, but you weren't in it. Your consciousness, your soul... it was gone."

I absorbed this, "And then?"

"Then Damon refused to give up," Daphne continued. "He insisted we try the blood ritual. It's an ancient practice, rarely attempted because it requires so much sacrifice. The entire pack contributed their blood, their life force. Damon gave so much he nearly died himself."

My eyes snapped to Damon, who was studiously avoiding my gaze. "You what?"

"I told you," he said quietly, still focused on Ezra. "I wasn't letting you go. Whatever it took."

"The blood created a tether," Daphne explained. "Combined with the mate bond and the parent-child bond with Ezra, it formed a connection strong enough to reach wherever your consciousness had retreated. But even then, it shouldn't have worked. The fact that you came back..."

She trailed off, shaking her head.

"I integrated them," I said, finally saying what happened. "When I was unconscious, I met the moon goddess, and… other myself.”

Daphne gasped “the moon Goddess. Is she real.?”

I nodded, before continuing my story. “in that void, they were fighting for control. The demon wanted to consume me, use my body as a vessel. The Goddess wanted me to take me to whatever comes after death. But I couldn't let either happen. So I... merged them. Made them both part of me instead of separate entities."

Daphne's eyes widened. "That should be impossible. Divine and demonic energy are fundamentally opposed. They should have destroyed you."

"Maybe they did," I said softly. "Maybe that's why I died. But when the pack called me back, when I heard Ezra crying and felt Damon's love through our bond... they formed a light that I followed in the darkness.”

"Can you control it?" Damon asked, finally turning to face me. Ezra had fallen asleep in his hands.

I closed my eyes, reaching inward to where I could feel both presences coiled inside me. The demon's power was dark and hungry, always pushing for more strength, more control. But it was tempered by the Goddess's light, kept in check by divine wisdom and compassion.

"Yes," I said, opening my eyes. "It's different now. Before, I was borrowing power, channeling it. Now it's mine. Part of my very essence. I can feel the demon's strength, but it doesn't control me anymore. And I can access it with the help of the Goddess's light without losing myself in it."

"Show me," Daphne said, her healer's curiosity overriding her caution.

I hesitated, then extended my hand. Purple light bloomed around my fingers. Then I let the demon's essence rise, and the light darkened to deep crimson. Finally, I called on the Goddess's gift, and white light merged with both colors, creating something entirely new and different.

The three powers swirled together in my palm, separate but unified. Purple, red, and white dancing in perfect harmony.

"Remarkable," Daphne breathed. "You're not just an omega anymore, Milo. You are something new."

The implications of that settled over me like a heavy cloak.

"What does that make me?" I asked quietly.

"Powerful," Damon said, coming to sit beside me on the bed. He'd laid Ezra in his cradle, and now his full attention was on me. "And still you. Still the wolf who risked everything to protect his pack. The power doesn't define you, Milo. Your choices do."

I let the combined power fade, tucking it back inside where I could feel it waiting, ready to be called upon.

"The pack needs to know," I said. "About what I have become."

"They will know," Damon promised. "But first, you need to heal. There is no rush."

But there was a rush, I soon discovered. Over the following weeks, as my strength gradually returned, messengers began arriving from across the wolf territories. Word of Millen's defeat had spread, and with it, questions about what came next.

Some territories sent congratulations and requests for alliance. Others sent challenges, testing whether the new regime was as strong as the old Enhanced program. A few sent threats, warning that they wouldn't submit to any centralized authority.

By the end of the first month, it was clear that a gathering was needed. A formal meeting where the future of all wolf territories could be decided.

"The Truce Council," James explained during one of his visits, spreading maps across my bed since I still wasn't allowed to leave the room. "Every major territory will send representatives. It hasn't been called in over fifty years, not since the last great war."

"And they want to meet now?" I asked, studying the maps that showed the complex web of territories, alliances, and blood feuds that made up our world.

"They want to meet you," James corrected. "The omega who defeated the council, and then killed the queen. Who united the Enhanced soldiers and traditional packs. You are either a beacon of hope or a threat to be eliminated, depending on who you ask."

"Wonderful," I muttered.

"It's scheduled for two months from now," Damon added, his hand finding mine. "That gives you time to fully recover and prepare. We will face them together, as equals. Alpha and Omega, king and king."
