Chapter 25 Punishment
Chapter 25: punishment
Milo pov
She stepped into the cell with fire in her eyes. I was surprised to see her today. She was the maid who had been taking care of me since I came here. Bringing me food and water each day.
“You, Rowan. Do you have anything against Milo you want to tell me?” She asked, standing in front of the brute, who was now shaking in fear.
“Noo…”
“Good, I thought as much. Now leave”
The guards took one look at her and backed off with scowls like scared little rats.
“You’re lucky,” Rowan hissed under his breath, brushing past me. “We’ll be back, so save your tears for the gallows.”
He shouted. Their laughter faded in the distance.
I took a deep breath I didn't know I was holding. Silence fell between me and the middle aged woman. except for my ragged breathing that continues to come out on humphs, as a result of the wolfbanes effect.
Daphne said nothing. She didn’t even look at me in the face.
Now, she was acting differently today.
She just knelt beside me, pulling out a handkerchief and without any questions, started wiping the grime and dried blood from my face, just like she had always done the few times she came here.
“I heard the guards,”
"Don't mind those brutes darling. They are just looking for easy prey."
“They said today is my punishment day?” I finally said it out aloud, my voice raw.
She flinched, just slightly. But I saw it.
“Please tell me…am I going to die.” I asked again, my heart thudding hard against my chest. Bracing myself for the worse.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, looking down. “He has no choice, Milo. The council, the people… they are all watching, and if he doesn’t act, he might lose their loyalty and trust.”
“So I’m the appetizer?” I laughed bitterly, “a means to satisfy the people's wish.”
Her lips pressed together in a thin line, I thought she wouldn't talk to me again, but I was surprised when she did. “You made it easy for them. Everything happened in front of everyone.”
“I didn’t mean…” My voice cracked. “I never meant to hurt him, I was just…”
“Then why are you harboring evil? I heard what happened. Does your life mean little to you?” The woman asked fiercely, I could feel her eyes were wet with unshed tears of her own.
Looking at her, my heart that has been silent for a while now shook.
And I almost said it. I almost told her who had slipped the vial into my hands. Who had whispered promises of safety and escape in the halls when no one watched.
Her words continued to echo in my head, but when I opened my mouth…
The heavy sounds of boot echoed, breaking the moment.
The guards have returned.
“Time’s up,” Rowan called, as if he couldn't wait to drag me to my death.
But the woman grabbed my shoulders, stopping me from moving. “I knew him before he even discovered himself. I watched him grow into a fine feared mafia king.” The woman's face has a serious expression. “I have never seen him be this worried or hesitate on a decision. I know love when I see one.”
Love? What was she talking about?
But the impatient growl of the guards sounded behind us.
She wasn't allowed to finish.
“Let's go, traitor. Time to meet your ancestors.” The guards roughly dragged me out.
“...be strong, Milo. And I know you feel the same…”
Her sorrowful voice faded in my ears. Everything around me dulled. And so was my heart that turned stone cold, as two huge doors barreled open.
I closed my eyes in acceptance of my fate.
Damon's pov
Today was the day of Milo's verdict and punishment. After I postponed it and dragged it for days, I had no choice but to do it.
I looked at my room, which was a lot different from last time. I have had the whole bed changed, and the whole bedsheets replaced hell no. I even ordered a new set of clothes, so as to
Find peace.
But peace seemed like a long gap for me.
I was covered in silence…, I clutched my chest region, dax had gone silent after our last ffight.no matter how I tried to call him, he was not answering.
The nightmares had gotten a lot worse recently. Every time I close my eyes, I always dream of the same horrifying event i have tried to burry inside me, happening over and over again. But this time, as if my nemesis had invented a new method to punish me, instead of my normal nightmares, the face has recently changed to that of Milo's instead, cradled in my arms, suffering, but I could do nothing but watch as life drain from him.
My whole body itched to strode down the dungeon and release him, but I know that would even make the situation worse than it already is.
I sighed, realizing that even as the strongest alpha in the world, the mafia king, it doesn't make anything easier.
Rather I am Shackled and bound by fucking rules…
“Damon!”
Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts. There was nobody in the world that could dare call me by my name except one woman…
Daphne.
And right now she was the last person on earth I wanted to see today. She rudely barged into my room, shortly followed by James who had a defeated look on his face.
I immediately smelt trouble coming.
“Sorry my king, I tri…”
“It's fine” I waved him off, having imagined what could have happened.
“I am busy right now, James must have told you…”
“You are a fool,” she snapped.
I paused, my eyes flashing for a second. “Woman I am…”
“I know who you are Damon, you are the little boy who would run around these palace walls naked and messed up by his own poo.” She came even closer, barely reaching at my chest, “Don't pull rank on me, young man”
“What have I done this time?” I said stepping back after a moment of blank silence.
“You threw him inside the dungeon.”
“He lied to me.”
“He was scared!” she shot back. “You think it’s easy, being who he is? Living like that? He looked up to you and you shoved him into the dungeons…..”
“He is a fucking traitor” i yelled, “can’t you see”
She stepped closer, her eyes searching mine like she was trying to look for the boy I am not.
All I see is you being a coward. You lost one mate already. Don't...”
My nostrils flared, as a warning growl rumbled in my chest as I tried to control my rising anger.
“Why the hell were you in the dungeon? I gave strict orders…”
“You gave foolish orders,” she snapped. “order an omega to be thrown in the dungeon filled with wolfsbane, and today you are all dressed for his verdict and punishment. Tell Damon, what type of punishment will you give to your mate. Death by hanging or maybe...”
I growled, stepping toward her, my aura leaking uncontrollably. “Don't you ever call a boy my mate. He is a spy. Obviously, he was trying to kill me.”
She snorted. “He’s a boy? And you didn’t treat him like a traitor on your bed. Or is that how you punish all your enemies now? Moaning and fucking them in your chambers.”
